BASEBALL

Jamie Abercrombie (Hatboro-Horsham) hit a grand slam in the first inning and Temple never looked back, earning a 10-5 win over Lehigh on Tuesday. The home run was the first for the left fielder since his first at-bat as an Owl on March 5, 2006, at Hawaii-Hilo. On Wednesday, in Temple’s 11-6 loss to Penn, Abercrombie had two doubles to pace the Owls’ attack. Temple (4-10) will open Atlantic 10 play when it hosts Duquesne for a three-game series beginning on Friday.
Freshman Chris Edgar (North Penn) contributed an RBI triple in a six-run uprising in the fourth inning of Millersville’s 10-9 win over Philadelphia University on Tuesday. Millersville (9-12) fell in the second game 10-7.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Widener freshman Casey Pritz (Abington) was named the Rookie of the Year in the Commonwealth Conference. Pritz posted nine double-doubles and finished 14th in the league in scoring with an 11.1 points per game average. She was second in shooting percentage (.544) and third in rebounds with 8.1 per contest. She was second in blocked shots with 47. Pritz scored in double figures 17 times this season, including a run of seven straight from Jan. 3-24. Her efforts helped Widener (18-9, 7-5 CC) win the Commonwealth Conference title and clinch the school’s third trip to the NCAA Tournament. On Friday, Widener visits No. 6 Rochester in an opening round game with the winner advancing to Saturday’s second round game against either Kean or Marymount.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Brieann Wolfe (Pennridge) had an assist in Bloomsburg’s 18-2 loss to top-ranked West Chester on Wednesday. The loss was the first of the season for the Huskies (3-1).
Michelle Mangiaruga (North Penn) scored four goals and capped East Stroudsburg’s comeback with a game-winner with 34 seconds remaining as the Warriors defeated Millersville 16-15 in a PSAC East lacrosse game on Wednesday.
SOFTBALL
Senior Steph Denlinger (Souderton) continued her torrid offensive production with a pair of home runs in Kutztown’s sweep of University of the Sciences on Wednesday. Denlinger now has 10 home runs on the season and 66 in her career, already an NCAA Division II record. In game one of the double header, Denlinger was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Her two-run home run in the fourth gave KU an 8-0 lead, helping the Golden Bears end the game in five innings. In game two, Denlinger had three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored to lead Kutztown to a 9-2 win. Both Denlinger and freshman Heather Hannum (Hatboro-Horsham) hit home runs for KU. Hannum was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk. Denlinger also had two doubles. KU (20-5) has now won 10 games in a row and 17 of its last 18 games.
Freshman Rachel Gieringer (Hatboro-Horsham) hit a two-run home run in East Stroudsburg’s 8-3 win in the second game of a doubleheader with Holy Family on Wednesday. Gieringer has three home runs in the first 15 games of her career.
