BASEBALL

Temple senior Jamie Abercrombie (Hatboro-Horsham) was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player of the Week in voting conducted by the head coaches and sports information offices. Abercrombie batted .435 (10-for-23) with five doubles and a home run to lead Temple to a 4-1 week, including a three-game sweep of Duquesne in the conference opening series. The senior drove in seven runs, highlighted by his first career grand slam in a 10-5 win at Lehigh on Tuesday. Abercrombie also moved into eighth place on the all-time hit list at Temple with 186, passing former major leaguer Bobby Higginson.
Abercrombie led Temple’s 18-hit attack with four base hits, including two doubles, in the Owls’ 17-5 win over Duquesne on Sunday. He reached base on his first four plate appearances and five times overall. He leads the team with a .387 batting average and 11 doubles.
Freshman Chris Edgar (North Penn) was 3-for-3 with three RBIs in Millersville’s 7-5 win the second game of a doubleheader sweep over the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia on Sunday. The win upped Millersville’s winning streak to four and improved its record to 14-13.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Chrissy Stokes (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored a pair of goals in West Chester’s 23-10 win over East Stroudsburg on Monday. Gabrielle Stitz (Hatboro-Horsham) added a single goal for the Golden Rams, who improved to 5-0 overall, 3-0 PSAC East.  Sophomore Michelle Mangiaruga (North Penn) had four goals and two assists for a career-high six points for ESU. Christy Mongiori (Pennsbury) had a second-half goal for the Warriors, who fell to 3-4, 2-1 PSAC East.
Jackie Geiger (North Penn) scored a pair of goals in Millersville’s 13-3 rout of Kutztown on Monday. Laura DeLuca (North Penn) was credited with a team-high seven ground balls while Morgan Mangiaruga (North Penn) had two and Geiger had one. DeLuca was also credited with two turnovers caused. Goalie Colleen Haggerty (Hatboro-Horsham) was credited with eight saves. For Kutztown, Leeann Pica (Neshaminy) had three ground ball pickups.
SOFTBALL
Junior Kaitlin Arbogast (Wissahickon) and senior Steph Denlinger (Souderton) each earned their second weekly award from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference on Monday. Denlinger was named the PSAC East Player of the Week for batting .448 with 13 runs scored and 12 RBIs. She hit two doubles and four homers, adding to her NCAA Division II career record. Denlinger now has 11 on the season and 67 for her career.
Arbogast was named the PSAC East Pitcher of the week for her 3-0 week, pitching in five games. She started in four, while totaling 27 1/3 innings. She struck out 28 and had an ERA of 2.84. For the season, she is 12-3 overall with a 1.64 ERA. She’s pitched nine complete games, including two last week. The Golden Bears (24-6) have won 21 of their last 23 games and are ranked 11th in the nation.
TRACK & FIELD
Julianne Spitzer (Central Bucks West) finished third in the pole vault for Bloomsburg in the Golden Ram Invitational at West Chester University on Friday, clearing 2.43 meters (7 feet, 9 inches). Lauren Dyer (Pennridge) was third in shot put with a toss of 8.03 meters (26 feet, three inches). Dyer also took sixth in the discus with a mark of 26.11 meters (85 feet, six inches).
