MEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) came off the bench to score 15 points in 20 minutes of action in West Virginia’s 72-71 loss to fifth ranked Syracuse on Saturday. Pepper connected on a three that gave the Mountaineers a 38-32 lead midway through the second half, but West Virginia was limited to just four baskets during a 12-minute stretch as the Orange built up a 61-51 lead. For the game, Pepper connected on 5-of-8 shots from the field, which included 3-of-6 from three-point range. He was 2-for-2 at the foul line and also contributed three assists for the ninth ranked Mountaineers.
Temple junior forward Lavoy Allen (Pennsbury) was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 10. Allen, who led the #19/21 Owls to a 2-0 week, earned his second Big 5 honor of the season and fourth career Player of the Week award. Allen averaged 18 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 59.3 percent from the field. He scored a game and season high 20 points and grabbed a game high 11 rebounds to lead Temple to a 73-46 win over St. Joe’s on Jan. 6. He followed that with his fifth double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in a 68-64 overtime win at Rhode Island. He is on pace to become the first Temple player to average a double-double since Ollie Johnson accomplished the feat in 1970-71.
Senior guard Robby Pines (Souderton) had three points, four rebounds, six assists and three steals in East Stroudsburg’s 74-47 win over Shippensburg on Saturday. He turned the ball over just one time and now has 99 assists and only 28 turnovers on the season. His 6.6 assists per game and 3.5 assist-to-turnover ratio should both rank in the top 10 in Division II next week. ESU, ranked 24th in last week’s national rankings, suffered its first loss of the season on Wednesday when it fell to No. 3 Kutztown 87-84. Pines contributed 11 points, nine assists and had only two turnovers. Kutztown’s Ryan Washington (Wissahickon), the PSAC’s second-leading scorer, was held to just three points but recorded 16 rebounds and six assists. On Saturday, Washington had 19 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots in Kutztown’s 83-63 win over Millersville. Kutztown improved to 14-0, 2-0 PSAC East.
Freshman Jim Connolly (Souderton) contributed nine points and four rebounds in Philadelphia University’s 71-62 win over Lincoln University on Thursday. Teammate Eddie DiRugeris (Pennsbury) added three points and three rebounds.
Thomas Young (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 21 points in IUP’s 76-54 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday. IUP is 13-1, 2-0 in the PSAC West.
Senior Brian Oleksiak (Abington) scored 10 points in Shippensburg’s 67-53 loss to Mansfield on Wednesday.
Bruce Kennedy (Wissahickon) had 11 points in Cheyney’s 73-52 win over Bloomsburg on Wednesday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore guard Alli Rosati (Central Bucks East) had a game-high 15 points while junior guard Jaclyn Hilf (Upper Dublin) had 12 points in Ursinus College’s 62-54 win over Dickinson.
Junior Ashley Gale (Cheltenham) contributed 10 points, two assists and two steals in LaSalle’s 73-47 loss to #14/12 Xavier on Saturday. In LaSalle’s 69-60 loss to Charlotte on Wednesday, Ashley Gale and Antonia Gale (Cheltenham) each scored eight points. Ashley had a team-high three assists.
Sophomore Casey Pritz (Abington) scored 13 points and tied a career best with 15 rebounds in Widener’s 70-59 loss to Lebanon Valley on Saturday. Pritz had 10 rebounds in Widener’s 62-48 win over Albright on Wednesday.
Senior Angel Stephens (Bensalem) is leading Cheyney in scoring (13.1 PPG) and rebounding (7.9).
MEN’S SWIMMING
Senior Matt Slomiany (North Penn) won the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:31.52 in Widener’s 69-53 win over Cabrini on Saturday. Sophomore Sean Cororan (Pennsbury) captured the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.72. Widener (6-1) remains undefeated against Division III competition.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Senior Tyla Conicello (Upper Merion) was part of Widener’s 400 medley relay team that won with a time of 4:21.55 in Widener’s 105-93 win over Cabrini on Saturday.
Freshman Paige Whitmire (Souderton) finished third in the 50 free (23.77) and was part of the second place 400 free relay (3:26.16) in Penn State’s sweep of Pitt (194-156), Maryland (185-168) and Villanova (276-77) at a quad meet held at Pitt.
Freshman Megan Lafferty (Upper Dublin) was part of the University of Maryland’s winning 400 medley relay (3:48.74) at a quad meet held at Pitt. She also finished third in the 100 free (51.98). The Terps defeated Pitt (181-172) and Villanova (247-106) but fell to Penn State (185-168).
Senior Heather Van O’Linda (Norristown) finished third in the 50 free (26.46) and 100 free (58.67) and was part of the winning 400 free relay (3:54.89) to help lead East Stroudsburg to a tri-meet victory over Ramapo and College of St. Elizabeth on Saturday. Amy Rowland (Upper Moreland) was second in the 200 free (2:07.82) and third in the 100 backstroke (1:07.42). She was part of the 400 free relay that finished third (4:11.84). Sam Hoch (Norristown) finished sixth in the 100 fly and fifth in the 1000 free (13:06.93). In the Warriors 154-106 loss to C.W. Post on Thursday, Rowland finished third in the 100 back (1:06.61) and 200 back (2:24.39). She and Van O’Linda were part of the 200 medley relay that finished third (1:53.77). Van O’Linda finished fourth in the 50 free (26.62), fifth in the 200 free and was part of the second place 200 free relay team (1:43.76). Hoch finished fifth in the 500 free (6:18.78) and sixth in the 200 fly (2:47.06).
WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
East Stroudsburg’s Kayla Littrell (William Tennent) finished eighth in the 400 meter with a time of 1:10.78 at the Kutztown Invitational on Saturday.
WRESTLING
Freshman James Bak (Harry S. Truman) dropped a 12-6 decision at 125 in Bloomsburg’s 23-12 loss to the #12 Pitt Panthers.
Senior Nate Nauroth (Quakertown), competing in his first bout since the PSAC Championships in December, picked up his sixth pin of the year and improved his record to 7-3 in Shippensburg’s 30-12 win over Anderson on Saturday. Redshirt senior Bill Purvis (Souderton) fell to the No. 3 ranked wrestler  at 157 in the East region, dropping a hard-fought 9-4 decision. In Shippensburg’s 32-6 win over Seton Hill on Thursday, Purvis earned a major decision (13-3) at 157.
David Luthy (Plymouth Whitemarsh) dropped a 10-3 decision at 125 in East Stroudsburg’s 28-12 loss to Navy on Friday. On Tuesday, Luthy lost a 4-3 decision in East Stroudsburg’s 24-12 win over Shippensburg. Purvis lost in a major decision, 19-7.
Elizabethtown’s Max Barsky (Abington) earned a 7-3 decision in Elizabethtown’s 27-6 win over Centenary College on Tuesday. Barsky lost a 5-2 decision in a 20-13 loss to #7 TCNJ.
