MEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Chris Davis (Norristown) hit three three’s and scored 13 points in the first half of Alvernia’s 89-81 loss to Lebanon Valley on Saturday. Davis finished with 17 points. In Monday’s 96-76 win over Old Westbury, Davis had eight points, 12 assists and three steals.

Zach Sibel (Pennsbury) contributed seven points, six rebounds and two steals in Delaware Valley’s 84-69 loss to Franklin & Marshall in the title game of the Sponaughle New Year’s Tournament on Friday.

Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) recorded his sixth double-double of the season with 19 points and 17 rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 81-73 win over Bryn Athyn College on Saturday.

Josh Johnson (Norristown) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and scored eight points in Kutztown’s 68-62 loss to California (Pa.) on Saturday. In Friday’s 71-58 loss to Seton Hill, Johnson posted 11 points and 10 rebounds. In Tuesday’s 86-72 loss to the University of the Sciences, Johnson, last week’s PSAC Eastern Division Freshman of the Week, finished with eight points and seven rebounds and played just seven minutes in the second half due to an injury. It ended his streak of nine consecutive games scoring in double figures to start a career, the longest streak at Kutztown since 1985.

Sophomore Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) scored five points in No. 11 Villanova’s 76-73 overtime win over Butler on Tuesday.

Senior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) filled up the box score with 15 points – tying a season high – seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in Philadelphia University’s 79-65 victory over Pace University on Saturday.

Freshman guard John Kanas (Souderton) contributed 10 points in Ursinus College’s 90-60 win over William Peace on Friday afternoon. Teammate Mark Wonderling (Souderton) had a team-high seven rebounds and five assists. In Saturday’s 80-66 loss to Roanoke, senior guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) led the team under the boards with seven rebounds to go along with 12 points.

Junior Sam Pygatt (Plymouth Whitemarsh) played a season-high 27 minutes and contributed eight points – including a second-half dunk off a full-court inbounds pass – while tying a season-high five rebounds and two steals in Shippensburg’s 72-61 win over California (Pa.) on Friday.

Senior guard Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) was named Temple University’s Under Armour Athlete of the Month for the month of December. The Pennsbury grad averaged a team-best 19.0 points while pulling down 6.5 rebounds per contest (second on squad) in the Owls’ four games. He also averaged 3.8 assists, 1.5 steals while shooting 30-of-53 from the field (56.6 percent) and 13-of-27 (.488) from three-point range. Pepper had his first career double-double with career highs of 26 points and 10 rebounds in Temple’s 101-65 win over LIU Brooklyn. In that game, he made 10-of-12 shots from the field and 6-of-8 from three-point range. The Owls’ lone senior also scored 20 points and had five assists in a one-point overtime loss to Texas (81-80) while playing a career-high 45 minutes in the Dec. 7 game played at the Wells Fargo Center. He had a near triple double (14 points, eight rebounds, career-high eight assists) in a 90-89 loss to Texas Southern at the Liacouras Center and tied for team high honors with 16 points in a Big 5 win over St. Joe’s. Overall, he leads the team and ranks fourth in the American Athletic Conference in scoring (17.24 ppg.) while topping the team in three-pointers made (28-66, .424).
Pepper, after a scoreless first half, exploded for 19 second-half points in Temple’s 71-66 loss to Rutgers in the Owls’ first-ever American Athletic Conference game on Wednesday. Pepper scored all of his points over a six-minutes stretch in which not a single other player scored for the Owls.

Senior guard Kenny Gula (Quakertown) returned from a six-game absence due to injury and scored 13 points in Moravian’s 90-64 win over Penn State-Lehigh Valley in Saturday’s opening round of the Roosevelt’s Greyhound Classic. In Sunday’s 66-53 win over John Jay College (N.Y.) in the championship game, Gula contributed eight points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Julian Bond (Plymouth Whitemarsh) finished with 11 points in Lock Haven’s 81-76 overtime win over Pitt-Johnstown on Friday.

Freshman guard Anthony McKie (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored nine points in No. 10 East Stroudsburg’s 101-69 win over Clarion on Saturday. The PW grad hit the last of his three first half three-pointers to start a 15-4 run to close the first half and send the Warriors into halftime with a 40-29 lead. With the win, the Warriors upped their record to 13-0, their best ever start. In Friday’s 75-60 win over Gannon, junior guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 10 points off the bench.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Lauren Crisler (North Penn) scored a career and game high 12 points, connecting on four-of-five from the field, in American University’s 77-40 win over Bucknell in its Patriot League opener on Thursday.

Sophomore forward Tori Steinberg (Central Bucks South) contributed nine points off the bench in Ursinus College’s 77-65 loss to DeSales University on Friday.

Sophomore Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) had 10 points, four rebounds and two assists in Princeton’s 66-59 win over Drexel on Saturday.

Junior center Emily Leer (Abington) contributed eight points, four assists, three rebounds and two steals in Villanova’s 68-59 win over Providence on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 63-61 win over Marquette, Leer had four points, five rebounds and two blocked shots.

Senior forward Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) had eight points and six rebounds in 28 minutes of action in Lock Haven’s 77-66 loss to IUP on Saturday. In Friday’s 70-58 win over Pitt-Johnstown, Ryan collected eight points, 10 rebounds and two steals in 35 minutes of action.

Junior guard Shayla Felder (Cheltenham) had five points, one rebound and four assists in Chestnut Hill’s 65-59 loss to Caldwell College on Saturday. In Friday’s 61-50 loss to Holy Family, Felder finished with a game-high 20 points while also recording four rebounds, a block and three steals.

Senior Jordan Domnic (Pennridge) led four starters in double figures with 17 points in Gwynedd Mercy’s 87-83 loss to King’s on Saturday. The Pennridge alum connected on five of the team’s 10 three-pointers. Junior Natasha Matthews (Norristown) recorded her second double-double in a row, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds and adding a personal best four blocks. Kristen Fuery (Upper Dublin), in her first game back from an injury in eight contests, scored five points. In Monday’s 82-74 win over No. 20 Vassar, Dominic scored 11 points and Matthews collected her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. In last Sunday’s 67-60 loss to Eastern Connecticut State, Matthews had 13 points.

Sophomore Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) scored a career-high 31 points on 10-of-13 shooting and an 11-of-13 effort from the foul line while adding a season-high eight rebounds in Shippensburg’s 95-90 loss to California (Pa.) on Friday. On Saturday, Knauer finished with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting while also pulling down seven rebounds in Shippensburg’s 74-73 overtime win over Slippery Rock.

Sophomore Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) contributed four points and three rebounds in St. Joseph’s 76-64 win over Florida Gulf Coast University last Sunday. The Hawks are 10-2 on the season.

Senior Daniella Ciccarone (Quakertown) sank a pair of free throws to secure St. Thomas University’s 71-62 overtime win over Thomas University (Ga.) on Saturday. The Quakertown grad finished the game with nine points, nine rebounds and two steals. In Tuesday’s 71-60 loss to sixth-ranked Cardinal Stritch in the Northwood Holiday Classic, Ciccarone scored 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting. On Monday, Ciccarone scored 18 points in St. Thomas University’s 116-108 win over Olivet Nazarene at the Northwood Holiday Classic. The 116 points set a school record for points scored in a game.

Jessica Schmidt (Abington) scored a career-best 25 points and also had 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season in Penn State Abington’s 66-28 win over Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday.

Senior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) contributed 12 points, four rebounds and five assists in Cabrini’s 69-58 loss at New York University in the final game of the NYU Holiday Classic in Manhattan on Saturday. The Souderton grad was named to the All-Classic Team. In Friday’s 68-54 win over Juniata, Sandone scored a team high 22 points, which included a 5-of-6 showing from three-point range. In Monday’s 58-45 loss to Albright, Sandone had six points.

Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) had 10 points, four rebounds and one steal in Delaware Valley’s 68-66 win over Trinity last Sunday. The win was the fifth in a row for the Aggies.

Sophomore forward Carley Kendall (Souderton) had six points, six rebounds and a blocked shot in Washington College’s 61-51 loss to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday.

Colleen Hinde (Wissahickon) scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in Neumann University’s 67-50 win over Eastern University on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Emily O'Donnell (William Tennent) had 17 points in just 17 minutes of play in Albright's 85-62 win over Neumann University on Thursday. She made 8-of-12 shots and had a double-double with 10 rebounds. The Tennent grad is averaging 10.2 points and 5.4 rebounds a game for the Lions, who are 7-2 on the season.

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY
Freshman Kelsey Koelzer (Hatboro-Horsham) had two points through the 2013 portion of Princeton’s schedule. In 2014, she already has three. Koelzer had two goals and one assist to lead the Tigers to a 4-1 win over UConn on Thursday night. She scored twice in the third period – including the game winner - and assisted on the tying goal in the second period to lead Princeton to its eighth win of the season.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Towson senior Alex Cohen (Abington) put up a score of 265.00 points to finish 21st in the preliminaries of the three-meter diving competition at the Georgia Diving Invitational on Friday. In Saturday’s finals, he posted a 214.45.

Bloomsburg University men’s and women’s swim teams took part in the International Swimming Hall of Fame’s Rough Water Swim on Saturday on day one of the team’s winter training trip. The race was a one-mile swim along Ft. Lauderdale beach. In the freshman category, Bobby Lenahan (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 21st among freshmen while Greg Beyer (Wissahickon) was 26th. In the junior age grouping, Mark DiLemmo (Central Bucks East) finished 18th with a time of 27:55.2.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Sophomore Kate Dillione (Council Rock North) was part of Brown’s first place 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.00 in Saturday’s 131-69 win over Providence.

WRESTLING
Bucknell 285-pounder Joe Stolfi (Souderton) fell to fifth-seeded Austin Marsden from Oklahoma State on Thursday at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn. One day earlier, the sixth-seeded Stolfi was upset by the No. 11 seed. He bounced back with two pins in his first two bouts Thursday before falling to Marsden.

Penn State senior James Vollrath (Council Rock South) compiled a 2-2 record at 157 pounds at the Southern Scuffle in Chattanooga, Tenn.  The Rock South grad, the No. 9 seed in his weight class, earned a 13-5 major decision over Ohio’s Andrew Romanchik in the first round. He followed that with an 8-6 decision over Northern Colorado’s Mitchell Polkowski. In the third round, he dropped a 2-1 decision to Central Michigan’s Luke Smith. In a consolation match, Vollrath dropped a 7-4 dec. to Duke’s Immanuel Kerr-Brown. The Nittany Lions captured the Southern Scuffle title for the fourth consecutive year.

Kutztown’s Matt Martoccio (Council Rock South) captured eighth place at 157 pounds at the Franklin and Marshall Open on Saturday. The Rock South grad earned a 3-1 decision over Pitt-Johnstown’s Sam Molina. He followed that with a 12-3 major decision of UNA’s Jesse Holton. He suffered a 5-3 loss to American’s John Doyle and then earned a 5-2 decision over Navy’s William Fox in a consolation match.

Bloomsburg’s Matt Rappo (Council Rock South) finished third at 141 pounds at the Cradle Gear Invitational last Sunday. He began the day with a 7-2 win over Gardner’s Webb’s Ryan Hull before falling 6-2 to Buffalo’s Nick Flannery. In the consolation bracket, Rappo beat Binghamton’s Nick Kelley 13-1 and then defeated Michigan State’s Brian Gibbs 6-2 in the third place match.
