Millersville’s Seth Hibbs (Hatboro-Horsham) placed 143rd with a time of 30:34 at the Gettysburg Invitational on Saturday. Teammate Keith Diflorio (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 178th
Penn State sophomore Nick Scarpello (Central Bucks West) placed 27th with a time of 27:16 at Friday’s Penn State National. The Nittany Lions captured first place in the meet with 47 points.
Ursinus College junior Sam Stortz (Upper Dublin) finished second at the University of Delaware Invitational in the Division II-III race on Saturday, finishing with a time of 27:30.93.
Shippensburg’s Matt Bee (Central Bucks West) finished in 121st place with a time of 30:12.31 in Saturday’s Gettysburg Invitational. The Red Raiders placed 13th as a team.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Kutztown’s Jill Kostishion (Pennridge) crossed the finish line in 26:24.41, good for 88th overall in Saturday’s Gettysburg University Invitational.
Lock Haven’s Nicole Wasniewski (Souderton) finished 127th with a time of 27:06.92 at Saturday’s Gettysburg Invitational. Lock Haven finished 11th out of 31 teams.
Temple’s Taylor Goldsworthy (Central Bucks South) finished in 154th place among all individuals at the Penn State National Invite on Friday, posting the third fastest time for a Temple runner (25:07). Temple placed 27th as a team.
FIELD HOCKEY
Junior forward Gretchen Kempf (Central Bucks South) scored a pair of goals and added an assist in Scranton’s 3-1 victory over Oneonta State on Tuesday afternoon. It was Kempf’s third multi-goal game of the season, and the five-point day gave her 50 careers points (20 goals, 10 assists), moving her into 18th on the all-time scoring list in Scranton history. Her 20 career goals places her 15th in school history.
Freshman Jessie Accurso (Central Bucks South) scored a goal that broke a 1-1 tie and propelled Yale to a 5-1 win over Dartmouth on Saturday. It was the first league loss of the year for Dartmouth and propelled Yale into a five-way tie for first place in the Ivy League.
Senior Casey McCartin (Hatboro-Horsham) scored her first goal of the season in No. 6 Penn State’s 6-0 win over Lafayette on Tuesday. Lauren Purvis (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed an assist, and teammate Taylor Herold scored on the rebound of a shot by freshman Casey Haegele (Central Bucks South).
Sophomore Maria Karidas (Council Rock South) scored a pair of goals while teammate Casey Dellostretto (Upper Moreland) had an assist in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 5-1 win over Widener on Thursday. The win was the eighth in a row for the Griffins. On Tuesday, Karidas contributed a pair of goals to help lead Gwynedd-Mercy to a 3-2 non-league win at Swarthmore.
Gwynedd-Mercy senior Casey Dellostretto (Upper Moreland) was named to the CSAC Field Hockey Honor Roll as she poured in five goals and an assist in a 2-0 conference week. She notched a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over Neumann before recording a career-high four goals in the win over Cedar Crest.
Becca Chylack (Souderton) contributed an assist in La Salle’s 2-1 overtime loss to Temple on Sunday.
Freshman Katie Walsh (Central Bucks South) had a defensive save in St. Joseph’s 7-0 loss to Massachusetts on Friday.
Senior goalkeeper Megan Goelz (Pennsbury) recorded five saves in Villanova’s 2-1 upset of No. 20 Louisville on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 3-2 overtime loss to St. Joseph’s, Goelz was credited with nine saves.
Caitlin Vasey (Central Bucks East) scored a goal in Lebanon Valley’s 6-2 win over Eastern on Wednesday. On Saturday, Vasey contributed an assist and set up another goal when teammate Jocelyn Novak converted the rebound of her shot into a goal in Lebanon Valley’s 4-2 win over Alvernia.
Sophomore Samantha Facciolla (Council Rock South) is part of a defensive unit that has allowed just six goals in 15 games for the top-ranked Bloomsburg University field hockey team. The Huskies are 15-0 and this past week earned wins over 8th ranked Kutztown (6-1) and East Stroudsburg (6-0).
IUP goalie Brittany Varacallo (Central Bucks South) had nine saves, all in the first half, and limited second-ranked Shippensburg to just one shot, but the Lady Raiders scored five second-half goals in Shippensburg’s 6-0 win.
Ursinus College senior goalkeeper Jill Lukens (Central Bucks East) was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Lukens finished a 2-0 week for the Bears with 16 saves. She recorded nine saves in a game against Haverford and added seven more in a 1-0 win over Johns Hopkins. Lukens lowered her goals against average to 1.79. Ursinus, ranked 10th in the country, is now 9-2.
Lukens stopped 10 shots, which included two saves in the final minute, in Ursinus College’s 2-1 win over 17th ranked William Smith on Saturday.
Junior Taylor McGarvey (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in Cabrini’s 4-1 win over Keystone College. The win was the Cavaliers fifth straight.
Junior Marlaine Schneider (Neshaminy) connected for the hat trick in Rider University’s 5-1 win over Quinnipiac University on Sunday. She now has a career-high 11 goals on the season and 22 goals in her Bronc career. Her 69 points are 15th best on the Bronc scoring list. This was the first hat trick of Schneider’s career and also set a career-high with seven points.
Rachel Neufeld (Central Bucks East) scored a pair of goals in Princeton’s 6-0 win over Brown on Saturday. Christina Maida (Central Bucks East) notched her second shutout of the season with six saves in goal, five of which came in the first half. Princeton is in a five-way tie for the top spot in the Ivy League.
FOOTBALL
Matt Colyar (Pennridge) recovered a fumble that West Chester turned into seven points in a 23-7 win over Cheyney on Saturday.
Blair Ransom (Hatboro-Horsham) had 50 yards on six carries in Lebanon Valley’s 51-7 win over FDU-Florham on Saturday.
Senior linebacker Greg Martell (Neshaminy) had a game-high 10 tackles and two sacks in Ursinus College’s 21-7 win over Juniata on Saturday.
Junior placekicker Brandon McManus (North Penn) contributed a 28-yard field goal on Temple’s initial possession of the game in its 34-0 win over Buffalo on Saturday. He also connected on a 23-yard fourth quarter field goal to cap the scoring for the Owls.
The College Football Performance Awards honored McManus with National Punter of the Week honors. In Saturday’s 34-0 win over Buffalo, McManus made two field goals and was successful on four point-after attempts. He also kicked off seven times for 433 yards, averaging 61.9 yards per kickoff. He also punted three times for 178 yards (and a career-best 59.3 average), two of which landed inside the 20, also a career best. In seven games, McManus is second in team scoring with 52 points. He leads the MAC with a perfect 28-of-28 in PATs. In his first season with the added duty of team punting, he has punted 20 times for 966 yards. Seven of those 20 landed inside the 20 while 11 were longer than 50 yards. This is McManus’ third consecutive weekly honor from the CFP.
Ryan Dickerson (Souderton) caught a 54-yard touchdown pass in Bloomsburg’s 38-18 win over Shippensburg on Saturday. Dickerson finished with 62 receiving yards. Bloomsburg is ranked third in the American Football Coaches Association national Division II poll. Kevin Morton (Abington) threw four touchdown passes on 15-for-17 passing in Kutztown’s 49-7 win over Millersville on Saturday. In the last two games, Morton is a combined 42-for-47 passing (89.36). He has now thrown at least two TDs in 21 of Kutztown’s last 24 games. He currently has 76 career touchdown passes and is second in KU history. Josh Mastromatto (Upper Dublin) had six carries for 36 yards and one touchdown. Brett Moss (Bensalem) forced a fumble in the win. Kutztown is ranked 20th in the latest AFCA top 25 poll.
Freshman Craig Needhammer (North Penn) scored on a nine-yard touchdown run in Lycoming’s 40-7 MAC win over Wilkes on Saturday. He finished the day with 77 yards on 16 carries.

Temple sophomore Russell Hartung (Central Bucks East) shot an 85 to finish in 83rd place in the first round of the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate on Saturday.

Kelsey Luber (Council Rock North) shot a 97 for her West Chester team in the first round of at the 2011 PSAC Championships at the Links in Hershey. West Chester was in fifth place after the first round.

Junior goalkeeper Andrew Foran (Council Rock North) finished with three saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season in Shippensburg’s 3-0 win over Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday. On Monday, Foran recorded two saves in Shippensburg’s 1-0 win over Concord.
Freshman goalkeeper Sean Murphy (North Penn) had three saves in his fifth start in East Stroudburg’s 0-0 tie with Queens College on Wednesday night. In Saturday’s 1-1 tie with UDC, he made one save in a half of action.
Alex Ruhfass (Council Rock North) came off the bench to contribute a late goal and an assist to lift Bloomsburg to a 2-1 win over Chestnut Hill College on Tuesday. Ruhfass scored the game winner while teammate Fran Miller (Central Bucks East) scored the Huskies’ first goal.
Freshman Christopher Davidson (North Penn) scored a goal in Millersville’s 3-1 loss to Gannon on Friday. It was the first conference loss of the season for the Marauders.

Penn State’s Christopher Hasyn (North Penn) was part of the ‘Orange’ Flight doubles team that was 2-1 in on the first day of the University of Virginia Fall Classic. He also opened with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 win in the ‘Gold’ singles bracket before falling in round two.

Regina Doherty (William Tennent) was part of the third doubles team that earned a 9-7 win in Chestnut Hill’s 8-1 win over West Chester.
Rachel Fein (Wissahickon) earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at first singles and was part of the first doubles team that notched an 8-0 win in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 5-4 win over Cabrini on Saturday. As a result of the win, the Griffins finished with a perfect 10-0 league mark for the fourth straight season. On Tuesday, Fein earned a 6-3, 6-1 win at first singles and was part of the first doubles team that earned an 8-2 win in Gwynedd’s 5-4 non-league loss to La Salle. It was the Griffins’ first loss of the season.

Sophomore middle blocker Brittany O’Hara (Pennridge) had three kills and one block in Moravian’s 3-1 loss to Susquehanna University in a tri-match on Saturday. She had five blocks and six kills in a 3-1 loss to Catholic University and had four kills and two blocks in the Greyhounds’ 3-0 win over Cedar Crest. Last Saturday, O’Hara led the Greyhounds with 10 kills and two blocks in their 3-1 win over Centenary College. She had four kills and a pair of blocks in Moravian’s 3-0 win over Cedar Crest.
Senior Aileen Reilly (Pennsbury) had 11 kills in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 3-0 win over Keystone on Tuesday. Sophomore Stephanie Farrar (North Penn) added seven kills.
Liz Valerio (Upper Merion) contributed 10 kills in Kutztown’s 3-0 win over Cheyney on Tuesday.
Freshman Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) delivered 11 kills and eight digs in UConn’s 3-1 win over St. John’s on Saturday. It was the first Big East win for the Huskies.

Freshman Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed 18 kills with a hitting percentage of .255 and also had 10 digs as Franklin & Marshall dropped a pair of matches in the first day of the Salisbury Tournament on Saturday. On Wednesday, Harvey tallied 22 kills and a .304 hitting percentage in F&M’s 3-2 win over Muhlenberg.
