MEN’S BASKETBALL
Zach Sibel (Pennsbury)
scored seven points in Delaware Valley’s 80-77 loss to Arcadia on Tuesday.

Junior Michael Guldin (Pennridge) contributed eight points, four rebounds and two assists in DeSales University’s 77-72 loss to Moravian on Tuesday.

Senior point guard Chris Davis (Norristown) scored a career-high 21 points on 6-of-8 shooting to lead Alvernia to a 95-83 win over Penn State-Berks on Saturday afternoon. In the first half, Davis was 5-for-5 from the floor with a pair of three’s and 15 points.

Senior AJ Picard (Souderton) connected on 8-of-16 attempts from the field for 27 points in No. 9 Cabrini’s 111-99 win over Widener on Saturday. Teammate Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) added 19 points, including 4-for-5 from three-point range. In Cabrini’s 98-79 win over Scranton on Tuesday, Picard and Rafferty contributed 17 and 15 points respectively.

Freshman Justin Lewis (Upper Merion) scored a team-high 11 points in Cairn University’s 97-63 loss to Gwynedd Mercy on Wednesday.

Penn State Abington junior Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) has been chosen as the NEAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 24. The junior forward and reigning NEAC Player of the Year led the Nittany Lions to a perfect 2-0 week behind averages of 25 points, 13 rebounds and two assists per game while shooting 56 percent (20-for-36) from the field. Marvin guided Abington to a 99-74 win over Penn State-Lehigh Valley after posting game highs of 24 points and 12 rebounds while going a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. He followed that up with another double-double, leading all players with 26 points and 14 boards while also dishing out three assists in a 107-84 victory over Cairn.
Marvin collected his fourth straight double-double in Penn State Abington’s 91-86 loss to Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday, contributing a season-high 33 points and 15 rebounds.

Sophomore Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) contributed 13 points, four rebounds and three assists in Villanova’s 88-83 overtime win over No. 23 Iowa in the championship game of the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas on Sunday. In Friday’s 63-59 upset of No. 2 Kansas, Arcidiacono buried a three-point shot from the left side of the court with 11 seconds remaining to help lift the Wildcats to the win. In Villanova’s 94-79 win over USC, Arcidiacono scored 14 points.

Senior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) had 13 points and a season-high eight assists in Philadelphia University’s 85-66 win over Kutztown University.

Junior Sam Pygatt (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored nine points off the bench in Shippensburg’s 70-64 win over Chestnut Hill on Saturday, finishing a perfect 4-of-4 from the field including a three-pointer.

Temple senior guard Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 24. He was also one of five players selected to the American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll. It is the second time he has earned the honor this month. Pepper averaged 18.3 points and 5.7 rebounds on the week while shooting 21-for-39 (.538) from the field and 8-for-16 (50 percent) from three-point range. He set career scoring highs in consecutive games, tallying 22 points in Temple’s win over Georgia and 24 points in a win over UAB while earning All-Tournament honors at the Charleston Classic. He also added six assists and five steals in three games. He has led Temple in scoring in each of the team’s three wins this season.
Pepper scored a career-high 24 points in Temple’s 87-66 win over UAB in the fifth place game at the Charleston Classic last Sunday. Pepper hit 10-of-15 from the field, including a pair of three-pointers. He also grabbed seven boards.

Arron Goodman (Council Rock North) collected his fourth double-double of the season in Gwynedd Mercy’s 97-63 win over Cairn on Tuesday, contributing 11 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Julian Hyden (Bensalem) had five rebounds.

Freshman forward Josh Johnson (Norristown) made the first start of his career in Kutztown’s 85-66 loss to Philadelphia University. He finished with 12 points, eight rebounds and a season-high four blocks.

East Stroudsburg junior guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named the PSAC East Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 24. Grant averaged 26.0 points a game in a week that included his 1,000th career point, which he hit against Mansfield when he became just the third junior in school history to hit that milestone. He entered the season with 925 career points, the most by a sophomore in school history. He scored 23 points against Mansfield and followed up with 29 at Kutztown, one off his career-high. He put together his 17th and 18th career 20-point games, combining to shoot 50.0 percent from the field, 46.2 percent (6-for-13) from the three-point line and 12-for-12 at the foul line.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore forward Carley Kendall (Souderton) scored a career high 10 points in Washington College’s 88-23 win over Bryn Mawr on Tuesday.

Sophomore Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) scored 12 points off the bench in St. Joseph’s 84-69 win over Quinnipiac on Sunday. The win snapped a 17-game winning streak by Quinnipiac. In Tuesday’s 74-65 win over Princeton, Andrews tallied 10 points off the bench.

Sophomore guard Helena Gemmell (Council Rock North) had six points, seven rebounds and five steals in East Stroudsburg’s 73-42 win over Concordia in the opening round of the 49th Annual Pocono Classic on Saturday.

Sophomore Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) scored 10 points and also had a team-high eight rebounds in Princeton’s 94-76 win over Portland State Saturday. In Princeton’s 74-65 loss to St. Joe’s, Wheatley scored a team-high 14 points. The loss was the first home loss for Princeton since 2011.

Sophomore Amie Eppolito (Pennsbury) had a team-high 13 points in Cairn University’s 88-35 loss to Arcadia on Monday.

Freshman Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) collected her first career double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds in Alvernia’s 66-61 loss to Stevenson on Tuesday.

Cabrini senior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) was named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 24. The senior became the 10th Cabrini women’s basketball player to reach the 1,000 career points plateau. Sandone paced the Cavaliers to a pair of wins. The senior guard tallied 12 points in a 75-40 win at Eastern. Her three-pointer 4:35 into the game put her into the record book. Sandone then posted 19 as she led the Blue and White to a 73-58 win over No. 25 Widener. Through five games, Sandone leads the Cavaliers with 16.2 points. Her 1,041 career points currently rank ninth in the program’s history.
Sandone scored 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds in Cabrini’s 61-57 win over Scranton on Tuesday. It was the first ever win over Scranton and broke a 10-game losing streak to the school.

Jessica Schmidt (Abington) scored a season-high 20 points in Penn State Abington’s 79-42 loss to Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday. It is the fourth time this season she led the Nittany Lions in scoring.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington sophomore Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East) received numerous accolades through the year. He was named the ECAC Division III Upstate Runner of the Week after breaking the 5-kilometer course record at the Dukes Invitational with a time of 17:27.18, averaging 5:36 per mile to win one of the six first place individual overall spots throughout the year. Kane went on to earn five NEAC Runner of the Week honors as well. Teammate Nicolas Volpe (William Tennent) picked up Second Team All-NEAC honors as he finished 12th overall in 29:23.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington’s Cecilia Rosenbloom (Cheltenham) became the fourth fastest in program history after finishing 24th with a time of 21:37 at the SUNY Cobleskill Invitational. Senior captain Megan O’Farrell (Pennsbury) became the seventh fastest runner in program history with a personal best of 22:36 at the SUNY Cobleskills invite.

FOOTBALL
Shippensburg senior defensive end Jake Metz (Souderton) was named a national finalist for the Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year Award. He is one of two finalists from Super Region 1 on the national ballot, joining Bloomsburg senior offensive guard Brian Clarke. Joining Metz and Clarke on the national ballot are six others – two from each of the three other Super Regions. The PSAC Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Year, Metz totaled 11.0 sacks – a half sack short of tying his single season school record – as well as 18.0 tackles for loss (13th nationally) for a country-leading 113 yards. Metz ranks ninth in the nation in sacks per game with 1.0 and second in the country in yards lost on sacks (99). Against Seton Hill, Metz set the school single game TFL record with 6.0 while tying his personal best with 3.0 sacks. The All-American finished his career with school records in sacks (30.5) and tackles for loss (55.0) and was a three-time All-PSAC Eastern Division honoree with First Team honors each of the past two seasons.

Senior placekicker Shawn Leo (Souderton) kicked four field goals in West Chester’s 40-38 win over host Bloomsburg in the second round of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Saturday. Leo connected on field goals of 28, 21, 32 and 43 yards. Sophomore free safety Brandon Pepper (Pennsbury) recorded a pair of takeaways on the day, stripping a ball late in the fourth quarter that eventually led to a Leo field goal. He also intercepted a pass on the goal line with 3:21 to play and the Rams clinging to a 40-31 advantage. West Chester (12-1) advanced to play top-seeded Shepherd in the quarterfinals next Saturday.

Monmouth University senior Dave Damirgian (Council Rock South) was named the CollegeSportsMadness.com Defensive Player of the Year for the 2013 Independent FCS Football 2013 All-Conference Teams. The Council Rock South grad led Monmouth’s defense with 81 tackles, which included 45 solo tackles. He had 13.5 TFLs for a total of 46 yards. He also had four sacks.

WOMEN’S GOLF
Middlebury College junior Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) has been named to the NECAC Fall All-Academic Team. To be honored, an individual must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35. This is the second year in a row Glatt has received this honor.

MEN’S SOCCER
Senior goalkeeper Dan Saint-Pol (Pennridge) posted one of the best goalkeeping seasons in recent years at Penn State Abington. He set single season records for highest save percentage (.825) and lowest goals against average (0.86). He also recorded the most shutouts in a single season with four. He was named to the NEAC Third Team. Senior Marco Paparo (Abington) scored 10 goals and added five assists for a total of 25 points. He set a single season record for most game winning goals with five. He finished fourth among career leaders in both points and goals and first in game winners with nine in his career. Paparo was named to the NEAC First Team All-Conference.

Mike Robinson (North Penn) contributed an assist in No. 16 Penn State’s 1-0 win over 10th-seeded and 15th-ranked UC Santa Barbara in front of 4,420 fans in Santa Barbara last Sunday. The win vaulted the Nittany Lions into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Cedarville University freshman Grace Miorelli (Souderton) earned a spot on the Daktronics Inc. All-Midwest Region Women’s Soccer team. The squad is selected by the region’s sports information directors. Miorelli was an All-G-MAC first team honoree with 10 goals and four assists for 24 points.

Junior Mallory Mugnier (Abington) had one of the best offensive seasons in Penn State Abington soccer history. Mugnier, who earned 2013 NEAC First Team All-Conference honors, set a single season record for points with 33 while also tying the single season record for total goals with 14 and game-winning goals (five). Sophomore Cindy Wade (Abington) recorded nine goals, second most on the squad.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Towson University senior diver Alex Cohen (Abington) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Diver of the Week for the week ending Nov. 24. Cohen earned the award after a record-breaking performance in leading the Tigers to a victory over McDaniel College. Cohen broke his own Towson school record in the one-meter dive by scoring 307.13 points, nearly nine points higher than his previous mark. He also won the three-meter event with a 288.53 score. It was his fourth weekly honor of the season.  The Tigers have completed the fall semester of competition and will resume their meet schedule Jan. 3-4 at the Georgia Diving Invite.

Taylor Mateja (Upper Merion) placed fifth in the 200-yard backstroke at the F&M Invitational last Saturday.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Penn State Abington setters Leah Brown (William Tennent) and Sam Nelson (Central Bucks West) shared duties and both made an impact this season. Brown became the all-time career leader in assists with 849 while Nelson was not only ranked third all-time, but she also ranked second in both total assists in a season with 505 assists and assists per set, averaging 5.43 on the year.

Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had 13 kills and 14 digs in UConn’s 3-2 win over Cincinnati on Friday. In Wednesday’s 3-1 loss to Louisville, Maugle had nine digs.
