MEN’S BASKETBALL
Sophomore guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 18 points, including seven straight in a decisive 19-3 run early in the second half, in East Stroudsburg’s 75-51 win over Clarion on Wednesday. In Tuesday’s 68-58 loss Lock Haven, Grant had 10 points.

Junior guard Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) scored 14 points in Bloomsburg’s 71-68 loss to California (Pa.). He connected on a three-pointer to extend his streak of consecutive games with a triple to 18. In Tuesday’s 60-42 loss to 16th-ranked IUP, Christmas scored a team-high 10 points.

Freshman Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) contributed nine points, four assists and three steals in Villanova’s 83-56 win over Monmouth on Saturday.

Sophomore Michael Guldin (Pennridge) contributed five assists in DeSales University’s 74-50 win over Pitt-Greensburg on Monday.

Chris Davis (Norristown) contributed seven points, four steals and three assists in Alvernia’s 72-63 win over Richard Stockton on Thursday. In Tuesday’s 83-54 win over St. Joseph (LI), Davis contributed nine points and five assists while Steve Schneider (Central Bucks South) added five points. In Monday’s 83-59 win over Gwynedd-Mercy on Monday, Davis had seven points while Schneider had three.

Ryan Connolly (Souderton) picked up his first career double-double in Kutztown’s 69-57 loss to Clarion on Tuesday, scoring 11 points – all in the first half, and pulling down a career high 10 rebounds.

Junior point guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) scored 15 points and had four assists and freshman guard Mark Wonderling (Souderton) had 11 points in Ursinus College’s 93-77 win over Eastern on Wednesday night.

Junior guard Kenny Gula (Quakertown) had a team high three assists to go along with three points in Moravian’s 71-52 loss to Muhlenberg last Sunday.

Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) scored a career high 33 points in Temple’s 83-79 win over No. 3 Syracuse in the first Chevrolet Gotham Classic at Madison Square Garden on Saturday. Wyatt made all 15 of his free throw attempts. This is the fifth straight season Temple has beaten a top 10 team while being unranked. In Wednesday’s 72-62 loss to Canisius, Wyatt scored 17 points. In Tuesday’s 63-46 win over Alcorn State, Wyatt dropped in a game high 20 points and surpassed the 1,000-point plateau. He is Temple’s 49th player to reach that milestone.

Sophomore Sam Pygatt (Plymouth Whitemarsh) shot 5-of-9 from the floor and finished with 10 points and four rebounds in Shippensburg’s 66-58 loss to Gannon on Wednesday. In Tuesday’s 76-65 loss to Mercyhurst, Pygatt scored a season high 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

CJ Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 13 points in St. Joseph’s 60-57 loss to Fairfield on Saturday.

Senior guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) netted 17 of his team high 19 points during the second half to help the Philadelphia University come from behind and defeat the College of Saint Rose 67-61 on the second day of the Adelphi Holiday tournament last Sunday. Junior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) filled up the stat sheet with seven points, a team high seven rebounds and three steals.

Junior guard AJ Picard (Souderton) contributed 15 points, five rebounds and three assists in Goldey-Beacom’s 76-62 loss to Chestnut Hill on Wednesday. In last Sunday’s 70-69 win over Washington Adventist, Picard scored seven points.

Cabrini College junior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference Men’s Basketball Honor Roll for the week ending Dec. 16. Rafferty led the Blue and White to an 89-73 win at Rosemont in the team’s only action of the week. The junior led the Cavaliers with a game high 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Rafferty matched his career high with four made three pointers on just five attempts. He also added three rebounds, a steal and a blocked shot in the win. In his third collegiate season, Rafferty is establishing himself as one of the top players in the league. His 13.4 points and 5.9 rebounds both rank 14th in the CSAC while his 2.7 assists per contest rank 11th. The junior leads the conference with a .926 free throw percentage and ranks fourth in three-point shooting, connecting at a .450 clip while ranking ninth in the league with 32.2 minutes per game.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman guard Helena Gemmell (Council Rock North) had contributed nine points and seven rebounds in East Stroudsburg’s 76-69 win in overtime over Clarion on Wednesday. In Tuesday’s 59-56 win over Lock Haven, Gemmell had eight points and seven rebounds.

Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) had eight points and four rebounds in Delaware Valley’s 49-37 non-conference win over Cabrini on Monday. For Cabrini, Brittany Sandone (Souderton) had six points.

Colleen Hinde (Wissahickon) scored eight points in Neumann University’s 54-49 win over Rowan on Thursday. In Monday’s 81-56 loss to Manhattanville, Hinde had six points and five rebounds.

Sophomore Kristen Fuery (Upper Dublin) came off the bench to contribute eight points and five assists in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 72-56 loss to Richard Stockton on Tuesday. Natasha Matthews (Norristown) had nine points and eight rebounds.

Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) recorded the Lady Eagles’ first double-double of the season in Lock Haven’s 64-62 loss to Kutztown on Wednesday. The Neshaminy grad scored 11 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. It was Lock Haven’s first double-double since Feb. 18, 2012.

Freshman Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) recorded her fifth consecutive double-double in Shippensburg’s 73-61 loss to No. 8 Gannon on Wednesday, scoring 14 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. In Tuesday’s 66-49 win over Mercyhurst, Knauer, who was 10-of-13 from the free throw line, finished with 14 points and a game high 12 rebounds.

Knauer was named the PSAC Eastern Division Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week on Thursday for the fourth time in five weeks after back-to-back double-doubles in conference crossover wins over Gannon and Mercyhurst. Knauer continues to be the PSAC’s leading rebounder and is averaging 13.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game through 10 contests while shooting 54.2 percent from the floor. Shippensburg enters the holiday break with a 7-3 overall record, which includes a 3-2 mark in PSAC play.

Jordan Seiz (Central Bucks East) contributed six points, six rebounds and two steals in Messiah College’s 57-37 win over Bridgewater College on Monday in the Puerto Rico Shootout.

Emily Leer (Abington) contributed five points, three rebounds, two blocked shots and one steal in Villanova’s 55-44 win over Temple on Friday.

Danielle Derr (Upper Dublin) scored six points in Bloomsburg’s 63-61 win over California (Pa.) on Wednesday.

Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) scored 11 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists and three steals in Millersville’s 68-53 win over Mercyhurst on Wednesday. In Tuesday’s 78-76 loss to No. 8 Gannon, Newman contributed 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists, five blocks and two steals.

Junior guard Tiffany Johnson (Cheltenham) dished out a career high seven assists in West Chester’s 83-43 win over Slipper Rock on Tuesday.

Freshman Ciara Andrews (Cheltenham) scored her first two collegiate points in St. Joseph’s 88-41 win over Savannah State on Friday.

Jen Sroba (Council Rock North) returned to the sidelines at her alma mater as the junior varsity coach/assistant varsity girls basketball coach after playing collegiate basketball at Ursinus College for the past three years. She was captain her senior year and helped lead Ursinus to the Centennial Conference playoffs for the past two seasons.
