MEN’S BASKETBALL
Junior Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 13 points in Randolph-Macon’s 67-57 win over Birmingham Southern on Saturday in the first round of the Coaches Classic.

Gwynedd Mercy freshman Arron Goodman (Council Rock North) was honored in the final CSAC Weekly Reports in the 2013 calendar year. Goodman helped lead the Griffins to a 2-1 week. He nearly averaged a double-double in three games. At Hunter, he scored 22 of his career-high 33 points in the second half en route to an 87-77 win. He would then net 17 points and grab nine rebounds in a 77-67 victory over NAIA Montreal in the first game of the Rappaport Holiday Tournament at Northwood. The following day in the championship against the host Seahawks, he totaled 20 points and 11 boards, but GM fell in the final, 70-68. For his efforts, he was named to the all-tournament team.

Temple senior guard Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) was named Philadelphia Big 5 co-Player of the Week for the week ending Dec. 22. Pepper, who earns the honor for the third time this season, shared the award with Halil Kanacevic of Saint Joseph’s. Pepper averaged 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a 1-1 week. The Pennsbury alum had a near triple-double with 14 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in a 90-89 loss to Texas Southern on Dec. 18. He followed that by recording his first career double-double with career highs of 26 points and 10 rebounds in a 101-65 win over LIU Brooklyn on Dec. 21. He shot 10-of-12 from the field in that game and 6-of-8 from three-point range. On the season, the Owls’ lone senior ranks second on the team and fourth in the American Athletic Conference in scoring (17.2 ppg.) while leading the squad and ranking seventh in the league in three-point percentage (26-of-58, .448). Temple is 5-5 on the season.

Josh Johnson (Norristown) of the Kutztown University men’s basketball team earned his second PSAC Eastern Division Freshman of the Week award of the season for the week ending Dec. 22. For the season, Johnson has scored in double figures in his first nine collegiate games, the most since Butch Hills’ 10 in 1985. He is also one of four players in the PSAC to score 10 or more points in each of his team’s games this season. However, he is the only freshman as the other three are all seniors. The freshman averaged 14.3 points and nine rebounds per game in Kutztown’s three games during the week ending Dec. 22. Against Clarion, he recorded his first career double-double with 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds on an effective 7-of-9 shooting. Johnson scored 15 points against Pitt-Johnstown and led KU against seventh-ranked IUP with 10 points and eight rebounds on 5-of-9 shooting. Johnson is 12th in the PSAC in rebounding with seven per game and is sixth in blocked shots at 1.8 per game. He also is ranked third in the conference in field goal percentage at 61.4 percent.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Freshman Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) connected on 5-of-7 shots from the floor and led the way with 10 points in Alvernia University’s 70-45 loss to St. Mary’s College in San Juan Puerto Rico last Monday.

Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) scored 10 points in Delaware Valley’s 72-62 win over the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire at the 2013 Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Saturday.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING
Following a meet with two school record-setting performances, Case Western Reserve senior co-captain Maggie Dillione (Council Rock North) was selected as the University Athletic Association Women’s Swimmer of the Week for the week ending Dec. 8. The weekly award marked the second of the season and fourth career for Dillione. At The College of Wooster Invitational, Dillione broke her own school and meet records with NCAA ‘B’ cut times of 56.14 seconds in the 100-yard butterfly and 2:03.05 in the 200 fly. Dillione also anchored three top five relay teams in the 800 freestyle (second/7:48.50), 200 free (fourth/1:39.73) and 400 medley (fifth/4:01.76). Last season, Dillione became the team’s first All-American since 2007 with a 14th-place performance in the 100 fly and a 12th place tie in the 200 fly.
