BASEBALL
Kutztown sophomore Brandon Martinez (North Penn) earned Dean’s List honors following the 2013 fall semester. A student-athlete makes the Dean’s List by compiling a 3.6 or higher semester grade point average.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Luke Moyer (Souderton) came off the bench to hit a career high 13 points while drilling 4-of-5 from beyond the arc in Campbell University’s 65-57 win over Charleston Southern on Wednesday. After a slow start from the field, the Camels went on an 18-4 run, which included a three from Moyer. Charleston Southern cut the margin to 46-40 with 13:09 remaining, but Moyer answered with a corner trey, and CSU would get no closer than seven the rest of the way. Campbell entered Wednesday’s game ranked fifth in the country in total three-point attempts (520), 12th in triples made (175) and 24th in 3s made per game (8.3). Moyer is currently ranked in the ESPN 100 in three-point percentage (.469) at #31. In Saturday’s 61-58 loss to Coastal Carolina in front of an arena-record crowd of 3,220 and a national TV audience on ESPNU, Moyer had seven points, including a trey in the final minute to pull Campbell within one.

Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) scored 15 points in Bloomsburg’s 77-76 win over PSAC East rival Lock Haven on Saturday. The win moves the Huskies back into sole possession of second place in the Eastern Division with an 11-8 overall record and 7-3 mark against conference foes. In Wednesday’s 88-77 loss to Millersville, Christmas led all scorers with 23 points, including 5-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc, but he was limited to just 20 minutes on the floor due to foul trouble.

Junior guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored eight points in No. 6 East Stroudsburg’s 75-67 win over Kutztown on Saturday. Grant is seventh in the PSAC with 17.4 points per game. He is 12th at ESU with 1,264 career points. East Stroudsburg is 20-0 and boasts Division II’s longest active winning streak. It is the first DII team to 20 wins this season. The Warriors entered the weekend as one of two undefeated teams remaining in DII, along with Tarleton State (Texas) at 17-0.  In Wednesday’s 112-79 road win at Mansfield, Grant contributed 14 points.

Senior Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) scored 11 points and dished out five assists in Temple’s 90-74 loss to Villanova in front of a sellout crowd of 10,206 at the Liacouras Center on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 88-82 win over Rutgers, Pepper scored 20 points. The win halted the program’s longest losing streak in 38 years (eight) and propelled the Owls to their first ever American Athletic Conference win. On Friday, Jan. 31, Pepper walked in Temple’s commencement exercises. This spring semester he will complete his three credits needed to fulfill his requirements for his Bachelor of Arts in Strategic Communication. 

Junior Sam Pygatt (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting off the bench in Shippensburg’s 72-68 road loss to Lock Haven on Wednesday.

Wesley Brooks (North Penn) matched his career high with 18 points in McDaniel’s 68-54 loss to Muhlenberg on Saturday. He also led his team on the glass with six rebounds while dishing out three assists. In Tuesday’s 61-57 win over Johns Hopkins, Brooks had four assists, four rebounds and six points.

Sophomore Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) closed out the opening half with back-to-back three-pointers to give No. 9 Villanova a 36-32 lead in its 90-74 win over Temple on Saturday. He finished the game with six points and five assists. With the win, Villanova won its 22nd Big 5 Championship in program history. In Monday’s 65-60 win over Georgetown, Arcidiacono contributed nine points, five rebounds and three assists.

Junior Travis Bryan (Hatboro-Horsham) came within one block of tying the school record with nine and added a game-high seven rebounds to lead DeSales to an 83-68 win over King’s College on Saturday. Bryan entered the game with just 10 blocked shots on the season and came within one of equaling that total in one game. The record for blocks in a game of 10 was set in March of the 1994-95 season. Bryan finished with six points, seven rebounds, three assists, one steal and nine blocked shots in just 18 minutes of action off the bench.

Sophomore guard Aaron Morgan (Council Rock North) had nine points and four assists in UMBC’s 83-80 loss to Maine on Saturday.

Senior guard Kenny Gula (Quakertown) scored 12 points in Moravian’s 73-69 win over Goucher on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 73-65 loss to Scranton, Gula scored 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

Chris Davis (Norristown) had nine assists with no turnovers and five steals in Alvernia’s 97-82 win over Stevenson on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 78-63 win over Lycoming, Davis dished out 10 assists to reach 397 for his career. The career record is 416.

Freshman Josh Johnson (Norristown) scored 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting with four rebounds and a block in 32 minutes of action in Kutztown’s 75-67 loss to #6 East Stroudsburg on Saturday. Ryan Connolly (Souderton) had 10 points.

Junior guard Sean Brooks (North Penn) poured in a career-high 25 points and dished out five assists with no turnovers in Washington College’s 79-69 loss to Dickinson on Saturday. Brooks drained five three-pointers in the game. In Tuesday’s 73-68 win over Swarthmore, sophomore forward Dave Knox (Central Bucks South) contributed 11 points off the bench, which included a 7-for-8 effort at the foul line. Brooks dished out a game- and career-best seven assists against no turnovers to go along with seven points.

Zach Sibel (Pennsbury) had nine points in Delaware Valley’s 73-57 win over Wilkes on Saturday. The win vaulted Del Val back into sole possession of first place in the Freedom Conference.

Senior center Connor Poston (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting while pulling down eight rebounds in Gettysburg’s 76-49 win over Ursinus on Saturday.

Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) earned his 13th double-double of the year after posting 21 points and pulling down 14 rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 85-76 win over Penn State Berks on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 58-55 win over Keuka, Marvin had nine points.

Cabrini senior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) was honored as a Sam Cozen Small College Basketball Player of the Week by the Philadelphia Area Small College Coaches Association for the week ending Jan. 26. Rafferty, an accounting major, led the No. 2 Cavaliers to a trio of victories. He posted 16.3 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 0.500 from the floor and 0.412 from three-point range. In Cabrini’s 82-68 win over Marywood, Rafferty posted 11 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals. He connected on 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, pairing 25 points and eight rebounds in Cabrini’s 92-68 win over Neumann. He closed the week by tallying 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists in Cabrini’s 94-84 win at Keystone. For the season, Rafferty ranks seventh in the CSAC with 15.5 points, while his 0.494 three-point percentage ranks sixth in Division III. The senior’s 2.8 made three pointers per game and 0.521 field goal percentage rank second and sixth in the league, respectively.
Rafferty scored 17 points in No. 2 Cabrini’s thrilling 80-77 win in front of a capacity crowd at Gwynedd Mercy University on Wednesday. The win upped Cabrini’s record to 17-0 overall and 11-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.

Senior guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) had 17 points in Ursinus College’s 87-78 win over Haverford on Tuesday. Sophomore guard Mark Wonderling (Souderton) had six rebounds. In the Bears 76-49 loss to Washington College on Saturday, Krasna scored six points.

Senior guard Nick Christian (Bensalem) contributed 10 points and nine rebounds in Philadelphia University’s 69-62 win over Holy Family on Tuesday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Emily Leer (Abington)
contributed seven points, four rebounds and three assists in Villanova’s 68-54 win over Creighton on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 59-49 win at Georgetown, Leer led the Wildcats with 11 points.
Daniella Ciccarone (Quakertown) contributed 14 points and nine rebounds in St. Thomas University’s 84-82 double overtime win over Southeastern on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 79-58 win over Thomas (Ga.), Ciccarone had nine rebounds.

Sophomore Ciara Andrews (Cheltenham) scored six points off the bench in St. Joseph University’s 70-51 win over VCU on Saturday.
Colleen Hinde (Wissahickon) scored 14 points in Neumann University’s 63-59 win over Immaculata on Saturday. The loss was the first in CSAC play for Immaculata. In Monday’s 81-66 loss to Manhattanville, Hinde had 12 points.

Emily O’Donnell (William Tennent) scored 10 points in Messiah College’s 81-53 win over Albright on Saturday.

Junior Natasha Matthews (Norristown) led all scorers with a game-high 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting in Gwynedd Mercy’s 86-44 win over Centenary on Saturday. Jordan Dominic (Pennridge) had a team-high eight assists while adding nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc. In Wednesday’s 97-21 win over Notre Dame (Md.), Matthews, Dominic and Kristen Fuery (Upper Dublin) all scored 10 points.

Sophomore Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) racked up 16 points and five rebounds in Shippensburg’s 101-65 win over Cheyney on Saturday. It was the second time in as many weeks the team has surpassed the 100-point mark. In Wednesday’s 69-61 win over Lock Haven, Knauer scored 17 points in the second half, helping to erase a nine-point deficit. The North Penn grad finished with a game-high 21 points after scoring just four in the first half. She shot 9-of-11 from the field overall and also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Sophomore captain Amie Eppolito (Pennsbury) scored a career high 27 points, which included 16 first half points, in Cairn University’s 60-48 loss to Trinity University on Saturday. She also had five rebounds and two assists. In Tuesday’s 84-34 loss to Bryn Athyn, Eppolito contributed 17 points.

Tyra Roberts (Bensalem) scored 14 points in Alvernia’s 58-52 loss to Stevenson on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 68-55 loss to Lycoming, Roberts had 13 points.

Sam Simononis (Pennridge) returned to the court after missing nine games and contributed eight points and five rebounds in 16 minutes of action in Vermont’s 65-57 win over Binghamton last Sunday. In Saturday’s 69-52 loss to Albany, Simononis had eight points.

Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) contributed 10 points and six rebounds in Delaware Valley’s 73-40 win over Wilkes on Saturday.

Sophomore forward Carley Kendall (Souderton) had a career-best 13 points and eight rebounds in Washington College’s 74-57 loss to Swarthmore on Tuesday.

Cabrini senior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for the week ending Jan. 29. Sandone led the Cavaliers to a pair of wins, averaging 19 points while shooting nearly 46 percent from the floor. In Cabrini’s 81-54 win over Marywood, Sandone scored 18 points in 23 minutes of action. The senior sharpshooter hit 3-of-5 from three-point range and 5-of-5 from the free throw line to go with four rebounds. In Cabrini’s 66-48 win at Centenary, Sandone posted a game-high 20 points. She connected on 6-of-12 from the floor, including 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. For the season, Sandone leads the Cavaliers with 14.2 points per game, good for ninth in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. The senior’s 1.5 three pointers made per game are 10th in the league while her 1.8 steals are tied for 14th.
Sandone scored 16 points and had a career-best six steals in Cabrini’s 58-48 win at Marywood on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 73-41 win at Baptist Bible College, Sandone shot 6-of-10 from the floor for 15 points to go along with four assists and three steals.

Jessica Schmidt (Abington) posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 63-51 loss to Keuka College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 69-67 loss to Penn State Berks, Schmidt had 13 points.

Sophomore Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) scored 11 points in Princeton’s 76-53 win over Darthmouth on Saturday. Princeton welcomed back former captain and 2011 unanimous Ivy Player of the Year in current Dartmouth assistant coach Addie Micir (’11) (Council Rock North). In Friday’s 78-68 loss to Harvard, Wheatley led the Tigers with 16 points and seven rebounds, both team highs.

Senior Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) scored five points in Lock Haven’s 69-57 loss to Bloomsburg on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 69-61 loss to Shippensburg, she led Lock Haven with 12 points and eight rebounds. She also earned three blocks in 28 minutes and shot 100 percent from the free throw line.

CHEERLEADING
Kutztown freshman Kelsey McGuire (Hatboro-Horsham) earned Dean’s List honors following the 2013 fall semester. A student-athlete makes the Dean’s List by compiling a 3.6 or higher semester grade point average.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Kutztown senior Carolyn Fergus (North Penn) earned Dean’s List honors following the 2013 fall semester. A student-athlete makes the Dean’s List by compiling a 3.6 or higher semester grade point average.

FIELD HOCKEY
Lehigh freshman Gabby Tofig (Council Rock North) was named to the 2013 Patriot League Field Hockey Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade point average in the fall semester and participate in one of the Patriot League’s seven fall championship sports. Tofig earned a 3.42 GPA for the fall semester as a freshman. She is majoring in engineering.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Hofstra University junior Ingrid Moyer (Souderton) was named to the University’s Provost’s List. To earn Provost’s List distinction, a Hofstra student must have achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the previous semester and completed at least 12 semester hours.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Towson University senior diver Alex Cohen (Abington) was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Diver of the Week for the week ending Jan. 26. He also was named the co-winner of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men’s Diver of the Week for southern Division One schools. Cohen led the Tigers to a victory over Delaware, capping his senior day by winning both the one and three-meter diving events. He scored 287.18 points in the one-meter event and 331.05 points in the three-meter diving competition. It was his sixth weekly honor of the season.

Dave Derr (Upper Dublin) finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 52.72 in La Salle’s 162-122 loss to Penn on Saturday.

Bob Bantley (Upper Dublin) finished second in the 200 freestyle in Penn State’s tri-meet against Towson and St. Bonaventure. The Nittany Lions defeated Towson 183-144 and St. Bonaventure 200-95. TJ Schenkel (Council Rock South) finished first in both the one-meter and three-meter diving events, posting a score of 330.55 in the three meter and a mark of 299.55 in the one meter.

Dylan Cooper (William Tennent) finished third in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.91 in Washington College’s 132-130 win over Ursinus on Saturday.

Eric Jensen (Upper Dublin) won the 100 backstroke with a time of 53.38 in Buffalo’s 178-103 win over Ball State on Saturday.

Senior Sean Staerk (Abington) finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.57 in Gettysburg’s 175-87 win over Swarthmore on Saturday. He also was part of the first place 400 medley and 400 free style relays.

Freshman Ian Flynn (Upper Dublin) was part of the second place 200 medley relay that finished second with a time of 1:36.55 in Rider’s tri-meet with Fordham and Yale. Rider defeated Fordham 160-135 but fell to Yale (209-90).

Andrew Richey (William Tennent) was part of IUP’s winning 400 medley relay at the Crimson Hawk Dual Challenge, which also included Gannon and Bloomsburg. He also finished in fourth place in the 50 free with a time of 22.36.

Shippensburg junior Tyler McLaughlin (Central Bucks South) posted a time of 2:26.55 in the 200 breaststroke, good enough for 14th at the All Comers Invitational hosted by the United States Naval Academy on Saturday. He was part of the 200 free relay team that finished 23rd with a time of 1:37.77. Junior RJ Phiambolis (Pennridge) finished 24th in the 100 butterfly with a season-PR time of 55.42. He also was part of the 200 free relay that finished 19th with a time of 1:33.10.

Bloomsburg’s Mark DiLemmo (Central Bucks East) met the PSAC qualifying standard in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:17.00 at the Crimson Hawk Dual Challenge at IUP on Saturday. Bloomsburg earned victories over Gannon (252-114) and IUP (206-169). Matt Ortlieb (North Penn) posted a PSAC qualifying time in the 100 butterfly (53.75). Bobby Lenahan (Hatboro-Horsham) posted a PSAC qualifying time in the 200 IM (2:02.02).

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Senior Ali Roth (Central Bucks West) finished first in the 50 freestyle in Gettysburg’s 153-109 win over Swarthmore.

Alex Wheatley (Upper Dublin) was part of Bloomsburg’s 400 medley relay that posted a time of 4:09.72 and finished third at the Crimson Hawk Dual Challenge at IUP on Friday.

Shippensburg sophomore Caroline Meier (Upper Dublin) achieved two PSAC cuts at the All Comers Invitational hosted by the United States Naval Academy on Saturday. She finished sixth in the 50 free with a 24.93 and took third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.91. She also was part of the 200 free relay team that finished third with a time of 1:38.85.

Emily Houser (Upper Dublin) earned a pair of wins in Dickinson’s 112-93 win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. She swam the lead leg of the winning 400 medley relay, posting a time of 4:10.72 to open the meet. She added a win in the 200 backstroke (2:12.07) and placed second in the 50 freestyle (25.50).

Taylor Mateja (Upper Merion) finished third in the 200-yard individual medley in Franklin & Marshall’s 112-93 loss to Dickinson on Saturday.

Caroline Rudkin (Upper Dublin) was part of the second place 400 medley relay team that posted a time of 4:06.67 in IUP’s sweep of Bloomsburg and Gannon at the Crimson Hawk Invitational on Saturday.

Lock Haven’s Abby Miller (Neshaminy) finished first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 56.21 at the Lock Haven Invitational.

Jan Ikeda (North Penn) won the 200 free with a time of 2:17.84 in Lebanon Valley’s 178-82 loss to Messiah last Saturday. She also was part of the 200 free relay that finished first with a time of 1:58.82. Ikeda was second in the 400 free with a time of 4:55.23. In Saturday’s 157-99 loss to Hood, Ikeda posted a qualifying time for MAC championships in the 100 free, resetting her own record with a time of 1:01.93 for a second place finish. That took more than a half second off her 1:02.53 time from 2011-12. She also was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 2:13.40.
Junior Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) won the 100 free with a time of 55.70 in Ursinus College’s 151-108 win over Washington College on Saturday. The Bears are now 10-0 on the season.

Senior Maggie Dillione (Council Rock North) was a double winner in Case Western Reserve’s 174-123 win over Baldwin Wallace on Saturday. She won the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.10 and the 50 butterfly with a time of 26.33.

Katie Dillione (Council Rock North) broke a pool record in Brown’s 166-134 loss to Cornell on Saturday. Dillione notched a win in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:48.86 and was part of the first place 400 freestyle relay that set a new pool record with a time of 3:26.67.

Kutztown’s Caitlyn Falguera (Hatboro-Horsham) finished in eighth place with a time of 2:21.07 in the 200 back in the four-team East Stroudsburg Invite on Saturday. She finished ninth in the 100 back with a time of 1:07.70. Teammate Melanie Felkner (Pennsbury) finished second in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:25.52. She was sixth in the 100 back with a time of 1:05.98.

WRESTLING
Junior Richard Jasinski (Pennridge) earned a 5-3 decision at 157 in Ursinus College’s 36-5 win over 19th-ranked Stevens on Saturday. He also earned a 3-2 decision in the Bears’ 24-6 win over Johns Hopkins. Ursinus is 12-0 overall.
