BASEBALL
Daniel Chou (Wissahickon)
threw a complete game in his first college start on Saturday, leading California Institute of Technology to a 9-7 win over Pacifica. The win snapped a 228-game Caltech losing skid dating back to Feb. 15, 2003. Chou held the Gladiators hitless through 4.1 innings and struck out a pair.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Derek Brooks (North Penn) erupted for a career-high 26 points in Gettysburg’s 79-67 win over Ursinus on Saturday. Brooks, who also tied a season-high with six rebounds, shot 11-for-17 from the floor and exceeded his previous career best by nine points. He scored 17 of his points in the second half when the Bullets outscored the Bears 47-37. Junior forward Connor Poston (Hatboro-Horsham) led all players with seven rebounds. In Thursday’s 64-59 loss to Johns Hopkins, Brooks tied a season high with six assists to go along with seven points while Poston had seven points and nine boards.

Penn State Abington sophomore Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) was named the ECAC Division III Player of the Week of the South region and also was named the NEAC Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 28. Marvin guided the Nittany Lions to three conference victories behind averages of 23.3 points and 11 rebounds per game while shooting 67 percent from the field (31-of-46). The sophomore forward opened the week with a game-high 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting from the floor to go along with seven boards, two assists and a block in a 78-66 win over Lancaster Bible. In the Nittany Lions 66-64 road victory over Gallaudet, he hit the game-winning jumper and finished with 19 points while going 8-of-11 from the floor and adding five rebounds and a steal. Marvin helped lead Abington to a 113-105 double overtime win over Penn State Harrisburg with a career-high 29 points while tying his season high in rebounds with 21. Marvin leads the NEAC in both points (19.6) and rebounds (12.8) per game and has compiled 14 double-doubles this season, which now gives him 30 for his collegiate career. He also is in the top five in the nation with rebounds per game and is tied for first overall for most double-doubles in the season with 14.

Marvin had 13 points and 14 rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 67-63 win over Keuka College on Sunday afternoon.

Senior Khalif Wyatt (Norristown) recorded career highs in three-pointers (7) and points (34), but it was not enough to overcome a balanced St. Joseph’s attack in Temple’s 70-69 loss to the Hawks on Saturday. Wyatt is the A10’s leading scorer, averaging 18.6 points a game. He tallied 21 of the Owls’ 32 second-half points, including 10 of their final 11. In Wednesday’s 71-64 win over Richmond, Wyatt scored 19 points.

Sophomore guard Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) contributed 23 points and seven rebounds in No. 20 East Stroudsburg’s 87-77 win at West Chester on Saturday. It was the 11th straight win for the Warriors. In Wednesday’s 77-68 win at Bloomsburg, Grant scored 22 points. Grant is averaging 22.6 points over the last eight games (181 points) and has increased his scoring average from 14.3 to 17.8 PPG in that stretch. He surpassed the 750-point mark in his 50th career game and is averaging 15.4 PPG for his career.

Junior forward Andrew Stress (Council Rock North) contributed 13 points off the bench in the FDU- Florham’s 54-50 win over King’s College on Saturday. In Monday’s 67-63 win over Rosemont, Stress had six points and three rebounds.

Dan Werth (Souderton) contributed seven points, four rebounds and two assists in Eastern University’s 73-61 loss to Delaware Valley on Saturday.

Junior Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) posted 13 points and five assists in Ursinus College’s 79-67 loss to Gettysburg on Saturday. Teammate Mark Wonderling (Souderton) added five points.

Sophomore guard Sean Brooks (North Penn) scored 11 points and also contributed three rebounds while teammate Dave Knox (Central Bucks South) led all players with eight boards in Washington College’s 81-46 loss to Dickinson on Saturday. Knox also scored eight points. In Thursday’s 62-60 loss to Haverford, Brooks had nine points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals while Knox had three rebounds and a steal.

CJ Aiken (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 16 points in St. Joseph’s 70-69 win over Temple on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 66-62 win over Fordham, Aiken contributed seven points and three blocked shots.

Freshman Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) contributed five points, five assists and two rebounds in Villanova’s 65-60 loss to Notre Dame on Wednesday.

Tim Abruzzo (Pennridge) scored 13 points in Navy Prep’s loss to Army Prep last weekend.

Junior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) scored 10 points in Cabrini’s 87-65 win over Immaculata on Saturday. In Thursday’s 82-61 win over Neumann University, Rafferty scored 11 points.

Philadelphia University senior guard Jim Connolly (Souderton) has been named to the 2012-13 Capital One Division II Academic All-District 1 Men’s Basketball Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Connolly advances to the national ballot for Capital One Academic All-American consideration. An accounting major with a 3.36 GPA, Connolly is fifth in the CACC in made three-pointers (46), seventh in minutes per game (35.7), 10th in free throw percentage (81.5) and 12th in scoring (14.8). He is leading the team in scoring and made three-pointers. In his career, Connolly has scored 1,393 points, which is 24th in program history. Last season, he was an All-CACC first team selection as he averaged 17.5 PPG. He was an all-conference second team pick as a sophomore.

Connolly scored 10 points in Philadelphia University’s 81-76 win over Bloomfield on Saturday and became the 24th men’s basketball player to record 1,400 career points.

Joe Renzi (Abington) contributed six points, five rebounds and two steals in Elizabethtown’s 55-50 loss to Arcadia on Wednesday.

Sophomore Sam Pygatt (Plymouth Whitemarsh) played a career-high 37 minutes and scored eight points in Shippensburg’s 63-62 loss to Millersville on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 87-70 loss to Cheyney, Pygatt had nine points, which included a 6-for-6 effort from the foul line.

Pat Furst (Central Bucks West) scored 11 points in Wilkes University’s 73-65 win over Manhattanville on Saturday.

Chris Davis (Norristown) scored nine points and was credited by coach Mike Miller for his defensive performance on one of Elizabethtown’s top scorers in Alvernia’s 78-57 win over the Blue Jays on Saturday.

Sophomore Michael Guldin (Pennridge) scored nine points in DeSales University’s 74-71 loss to Delaware Valley College on Wednesday night.

Marcus Badger (Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 11 points in Randolph-Macon’s 91-77 win over Lynchburg on Saturday.

Junior guard Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) returned to the lineup after missing three games with a concussion and scored a team-high 16 points in Bloomsburg’s 71-64 loss to Kutztown on Saturday. The Norristown grad was 5-for-9 from three-point range.

AJ Picard (Souderton) scored 15 points in Goldey-Beacom’s 84-77 loss to Felician on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 76-75 overtime win over the University of the Sciences, Picard scored a team-high 22 points and contributed eight rebounds. He made 5-of-12 shots from the floor and connected on 10-of-13 free throws.

Kutztown freshman Ryan Connolly (Souderton) was named PSAC East Freshman of the Week last Monday for the second time in three weeks. Connolly averaged nine points and 8.5 rebounds per game for the week. He scored 10 points in a loss to Cheyney, which included a 3-for-5 effort from three-point range. Connolly followed it up with eight points and 11 rebounds in a double overtime contest at Millersville. He also had three assists and a steal in each game.
Connolly scored all 15 of his points in the second half of Kutztown’s 94-87 win over Mansfield on Thursday.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Daniella Ciccarone (Quakertown) contributed nine points and four assists in St. Thomas University’s 71-63 win over Northwood on Friday night. The Quakertown alum has emerged in recent weeks, earning a spot in the starting lineup. In a win at Webber International on Jan. 11, Ciccarone set career highs in points (15) rebounds (11) and assists (seven). St. Thomas is off to its best start in school history with a 19-2 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in the Sun Conference.

Shannon Barlow (Neshaminy) contributed four points and 11 rebounds in Delaware Valley’s 57-52 win over Eastern University on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 71-45 loss to DeSales, Barlow had seven points and three rebounds.

Freshman Sarah Listenbee (Abington) scored six points after shooting 3-of-4 from the field in Holy Family’s 80-56 win over Wilmington University on Tuesday.

Junior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) scored 13 points in Cabrini’s 60-46 win over Centenary College on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 63-60 win over Neumann University, Sandone led the Blue and White with 16 points.

Freshman Helena Gemmell (Council Rock North) had four points, a career-high 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals in East Stroudsburg’s 64-52 loss to West Chester on Saturday.

Freshman Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) finished with a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season and first in the last four games in Shippensburg’s 61-40 win over Cheyney on Saturday.

Danielle Derr (Upper Dublin) scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds while making all four of her free throws in her first start of the season in Bloomsburg’s 79-68 win over Kutztown on Saturday Derr had three offensive rebounds and played a significant role in Bloomsburg’s second-half comeback.  In Wednesday’s 86-43 win over East Stroudsburg, Derr contributed eight points off the bench.

Jessica Schmidt (Abington) contributed 15 points and eight rebounds in Penn State Abington’s 76-64 loss to Keuka College on Sunday. In last Sunday’s 89-72 loss to Penn State Harrisburg, Schmidt scored 19 points and pulled down six rebounds.

Freshman Carley Kendall (Souderton) contributed eight points and five rebounds in 23 minutes off the bench in Washington College’s 56-55 loss to Dickinson on Saturday. In Thursday’s 56-54 loss to Haverford, Kendall contributed eight points, six rebounds and two assists, and in Tuesday’s 62-48 win over Franklin & Marshall, Kendall had nine points and six rebounds.

Sarah Kiely (Council Rock North) scored seven points and also pulled down four rebounds in American University’s 49-47 loss to Lafayette on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 66-58 win over Bucknell, Kiely contributed four points.

Natasha Matthews (Norristown) contributed eight points and 13 rebounds in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 69-65 win at Marywood on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 63-54 win over Immaculata, Matthews scored 18 of her game-high 20 points in the second half.

Freshman Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) contributed six points and nine rebounds off the bench in Princeton’s 87-41 win over Columbia on Saturday. In Friday’s 77-46 win over Cornell, Wheatley had eight points, three rebounds and two assists.

Freshman forward Tori Steinberg (Central Bucks South) scored 10 points in Ursinus College’s 60-33 win over Bryn Mawr on Thursday.

Emily Leer (Abington) contributed eight points and four rebounds in Villanova’s 58-50 loss to Rutgers on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 76-43 loss to No. 2 Connecticut, Leer scored eight points.

Calla Miller (Central Bucks South) scored eight points and also had a team-high eight rebounds in Haverford’s 56-54 win over Washington College on Thursday. In Tuesday’s 61-55 loss to Gettysburg, Miller scored a season-high 10 points.

Ashley Rosario (Harry S Truman) contributed eight points and five rebounds in Goldey-Beacom’s 61-47 win over Felician on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 73-57 win over the University of the Sciences, Rosario had six points and five rebounds.

Kelsey Ryan (Neshaminy) scored 14 points, 10 in the first half, in Lock Haven’s 88-62 loss to IUP on Wednesday.

Mashira Newman (Upper Dublin) posted 14 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds to go along with four steals in Millersville’s 75-49 win over Mansfield on Saturday. It was the fifth double-double of Newman’s career and the first in which she has hit double digit points and assists in the same game.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Freshman Ian Scullion (Central Bucks South) claimed the 1,000 freestyle (10:14.39) and 500 freestyle (4:59.02) in Gettysburg’s 191-71 win over Swarthmore on Saturday. Junior Sean Staerk (Abington) finished first in the 200 free (1:46.02), and sophomore Ashton Levens (Upper Dublin) was part of the winning 200 free relay that posted a time of 1:38.30.

Chris Willcox (Upper Dublin) finished second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.30 in Hartwick’s 165-113 loss to Stevens on Saturday.

Sophomore Ben Mancini (Springfield) finished first in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 17:37.05 in Washington & Jefferson’s 161-100 loss to Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday.

Calvin Starosta (Upper Dublin) won the 100 backstroke in a personal best time of 52.56 seconds in West Chester’s 175-125 non-league loss to the University of Pennsylvania on Friday night.

Sophomore TJ Schenkel (Council Rock South) finished third (255.37) on the one-meter board and fourth (274.05) on the three-meter in No. 19 Penn State’s 186-101 win over Towson on Saturday.

Freshman CJ Gimpel (Central Bucks South) finished first on the 1-meter board with a score of 244.58 in La Salle’s 175-121 loss to Penn on Saturday.

University of Rochester senior Adam Bossert (Wissahickon) was named the Liberty League’s Men’s Swimmer of the Week for the week ending Jan. 28. Bossert compiled five event wins over two days of swimming meets. Against Cortland, he won the 100 breaststroke and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay. In Saturday’s win over RIT, he captured three titles, winning the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and again as a member of the 200 medley relay team.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Junior Ali Roth (Central Bucks West) was part of the winning 200 free relay that posted a time of 1:42.94 in Gettysburg’s 166-96 win over Swarthmore on Saturday.

Megan Lafferty (Upper Dublin) was part of the first place 400 medley relay in Arizona’s tri-meet against Texas and SMU on Friday, posting a time of 3:36.24 to win by more than a second.

Senior Paige Whitmire (Souderton) captured first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.17 in No. 24 Penn State’s 186-109 win over Towson on Saturday. She also was part of the winning 200 free relay that posted a time of 1:32.86. Whitmire was one of five seniors honored at a pre-meet ceremony.

Lock Haven’s Abby Miller (Neshaminy) posted a win in the 100 freestyle at the Haven Invite on Saturday.

Kelsey Tennett (Hatboro-Horsham) won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 250.88 in West Chester’s 173-127 loss to the University of Pennsylvania on Friday night. Tennett was runner-up on the 3-meter board with a score of 246.98.

Taylor Mateja (Upper Merion) was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:58.05 in Franklin & Marshall’s 105-100 loss to Dickinson on Saturday. She also won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:15.89.

Freshman Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) was part of Shippensburg’s winning 200 free relay at the 2013 Bison Invite hosted by Bucknell University, posting a time of 1:38.60. Meier also was part of the sixth place 200 medley relay (1:53.59). She posted season-best times in the 50 free (25.41) and 100 free (54.65). Both are PSAC qualifying times. Colleen Stiles (North Penn) posted a PSAC qualifying time in the 200 back (2:14.79).

Junior Chelsea Kozior (Council Rock South) was part of the winning 200 medley relay that posted a time of 1:55.72 in Ursinus College’s 112-82 win over Washington College on Saturday.

Millersville’s Ashley Kichline (Souderton) placed third out of 12 competitors in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.14 at the East Stroudsburg Invitational on Saturday.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Johns Hopkins freshman Michael Spadaro (Council Rock South) finished third in triple jump at the Seamus McElligot Invitational on Saturday at Haverford with a jump of 41’5.25”. He finished seventh in the pole vault (11’5.75”) and 15th in the long jump (18’1.75”). At last Saturday’s Thomson Invite at the University of Delaware, Spadaro took over fifth place in the conference pole vault rankings with a jump of 3.75 meters (12’3.50) while placing second in the field of 16 in the triple jump with a jump of 13.42 meters (44’50”).

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Noah Prickett (Pennsbury)
finished with a career-high 21 kills and also had 13 digs and two service aces in Cairn University’s 3-1 loss to Stevenson on Saturday. Ryan Garven (Council Rock North) added 12 kills and a team-high 14 digs. Nate Seidle (Central Bucks West) recorded four assisted blocks. In Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Ramapo, Prickett had 12 kills and seven digs, and Garven added seven kills and four digs. Ethan Mawhinney (Neshaminy)had three blocks and five kills.

MEN’S WATER POLO
Bucknell junior Jack Else (North Penn) was named Honorable Mention All-American by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. It was his first career honor and the sixth time in the last seven years at least one Bucknell player has been recognized with All-America honors. Else finished the season with a career-high 55 goals this past fall. He also drew a Bucknell record 133 ejections, smashing his own standard by 55. No other Bison player has ever had more than 69 ejections drawn in a season. Else’s 133 ejections drawn would rank fifth on the career list that he already tops with 238, 52 more than second place. Else was named to the All-Southern Division Second Team for a second straight year. He also was a Second Team All-Eastern Championship pick after totaling three goals and 10 ejections drawn at the three-day event. A starter in 30 games in 2012, Else will enter his senior campaign with career offensive tallies of 125 goals, 19 assists and 144 points. He helped Bucknell to a 17-14 record this past season. The Bison, who won seven of their final eight contests, advanced to the title game of the Eastern Championship for the first time since 1993, and they won their first ever Southern Championships crown.

WRESTLING
John Lindquist (Neshaminy)
earned a 9-0 major decision at 165 in Shippensburg’s 36-7 loss to Gannon on Saturday, improving his record to 3-0 this season when wrestling up one weight class to 165.

Sophomore Richard Jasinski (Pennridge) earned an 8-0 major decision at 157 in Ursinus College’s 25-9 win over Johns Hopkins. In the Bears 32-6 win over Stevens Tech, Jasinski earned a 12-6 decision at 157.
