Freshman Randy Frankenfield (Wissahickon) threw seven innings, allowing just three hits with one walk and a strikeout in his first collegiate start on Thursday against Muhlenburg. He did not allow a run and was relieved in the eighth inning of a scoreless game. Muhlenberg rallied to win 2-1 in 10 innings. In Friday’s 7-0 win over St. Mary’s, Zach Philippi (Harry S Truman) worked two innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit and striking out one while facing just six batters.
Ryan Henritzy (Council Rock North) hit an RBI double in Lock Haven’s 9-7 win over Davis & Elkins in eight innings on Saturday. He finished the game 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Matt Hanson (Central Bucks West) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored and teammate Daniel Seitzinger (Central Bucks West) was 1-for-3 with one run scored and two RBIs in Moravian’s 21-10 win over John Carroll on Saturday. In Moravian’s 10-5 loss to John Carroll in the first game of the DH, Hanson was 1-for-3 with one run scored and two RBIs. In Monday’s 9-8 win over No. 25 Adrian in 10 innings, Hanson was 2-for-5 with a double while becoming the 24th player in school history to reach 100 career hits.
Patrick Campion (Norristown) delivered an RBI single and freshman pitcher Austin DiBonaventure (Plymouth Whitemarsh) earned the save with a scoreless top of the ninth in Chestnut Hill’s 5-4 win over the University of Mary last Monday in Vero Beach, Fla.

Hollenbeck threw five innings of scoreless relief as Georgetown rallied from a 4-0 deficit to earn a 7-4 win over South Dakota State on Sunday afternoon at the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Fla. Hollenbeck struck out seven while giving up just four hits in his five innings. In 9.1 innings this season, he has fanned 11 and boasts an earned run average of 1.93.
Junior catcher Craig Lepre (North Penn) went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the University of Albany’s 6-3 win over Campbell University last Friday.
Andrew Check (Central Bucks West) was 2-for-5 in Eastern’s 6-2 loss to Muhlenberg on Wednesday in Myrtle Beach. Check also tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
Freshman Ryan Fleming (Council Rock South) made his first career start when Rutgers faced Oklahoma in the series finale in Norman, Oklahoma, on Sunday. He allowed three runs in 4.1 innings on the mound to earn the win. Rutgers defeated Oklahoma 8-6.
Tim Filer (Council Rock North) had a pair of hits, including an RBI single, in Lebanon Valley’s 5-4 win over Martin Luther on Thursday in Fort Pierce, Fla. In Lebanon Valley’s 7-5 win over Immaculata on Tuesday, Filer was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Freshman Trey Guaglionona (Abington) got his first collegiate hit in Penn State Abington’s 7-3 loss to Clark University (Mass.) on Friday, hitting a two-out double in the top of the seventh inning. Freshman Tom Kreiling (Neshaminy) allowed five hits and four earned runs in 4.1 innings in his first collegiate start. Brian Camp (Cheltenham) threw 1.2 innings in relief, allowing no hits and one earned run while walking two and striking out one.
Kristopher Davis (Central Bucks East) made his season debut in Elizabethtown’s 3-0 win over Misericordia on Friday. It is his first action since suffering a knee injury in the Commonwealth Conference Men’s Soccer Championship last November. He threw three strong innings with two strikeouts, one hit and one walk.
Ryan Pater (Central Bucks East) contributed an RBI double in St. Joe’s 8-0 win over Niagara on Saturday.
Junior designated hitter Ken McCormick (Pennsbury) was 1-for-2 with two runs scored in Philadelphia University’s 2-1 win over LeMoyne on Saturday.
Vince Careghini (Central Bucks East) singled and scored a run in Shippensburg’s 5-4 loss to Slippery Rock in 11 innings on Saturday.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Washington College junior guard Sean Brooks (North Penn) was named to the Centennial Conference’s All-Sportsmanship Team. Brooks led the team in assists per game at 2.8 per contest and averaged 7.7 points a game. Each Centennial Conference member institution was permitted to nominate one student from each spring program who exemplifies the best in sportsmanship for the All-Sportsmanship Team. Nominations were submitted by the athletic departments or head coaches. Brooks is a first-time All-Sportsmanship honoree.
Senior Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) scored a game-high 26 points while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists in Temple 86-78 overtime win over the University of Central Florida on Tuesday. Prior to tip-off, Temple honored Pepper, the team’s lone senior. In Saturday’s 66-65 win at UCF, Pepper scored a game-high 20 points and also had eight rebounds.
East Stroudsburg junior Whis Grant (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was named to the All-PSAC East first team. Grant, last year’s PSAC East Athlete of the Year as a sophomore, will be ESU’s leading scorer for a third straight season, averaging 16.9 points per game. He ranks seventh in school history with 1,381 points. He led ESU’s 2012 PSAC championship team with 13.9 ppg as a freshman and posting 17.6 ppg last year. He has scored 20-plus points in 10 games, all in the 16-game PSAC East schedule, including a career-high 31 in a 107-94 win at PSAC East preseason favorite West Chester on Jan. 25. Grant is a returning NABC and DII Bulletin All-America honorable mention selection and was named to DII Bulletin’s ‘Super 16’ entering the season.
Grant scored 16 points in No. 2 East Stroudsburg’s 63-55 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday. With the win, the Warriors advanced to the PSAC championship game for the second time in three seasons.
Bloomsburg senior Lorenzo Christmas (Norristown) was named to the PSAC Eastern Division second team. He is one of the conference’s top perimeter shooters, ranking second in the conference by shooting 43.0 percent from beyond the arc and averaging 2.7 three-pointers per game, also second in the PSAC. In all, the redshirt senior averaged 14.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game this year while shooting over 42 percent from the floor. He scored in double figures 19 times during the year. Christmas also finishes his career among the school’s leaders in multiple statistical categories. He became Bloomsburg’s all-time leader in three-pointers with five shots beyond the arc in a February win over Goldey-Beacom, finishing with 237 treys during his time at Bloomsburg. He also reached the 1,000-point mark this year, completing his career with 1,299 points to rank 13th in school history.
Ursinus College senior point guard Jesse Krasna (Pennsbury) was named second team All-Centennial Conference. It is his second appearance on the team after being named honorable mention last season. As a senior, he led the Bears in assists with 80 and was second on the team in both rebounds (4.2) and points (13.8). He surpassed the 1,000-point mark in his career on the last day of the regular season in a game against Muhlenberg. He shot 43.5 percent from the field during the year.
Luke Moyer (Souderton) scored five points, including his team’s 13th three-pointer of the game, in Campbell University’s 81-71 loss to Charleston Southern on Wednesday.
McDaniel College sophomore guard Wesley Brooks (North Penn) received All-Centennial Conference honorable mention recognition. The North Penn grad ranked second on the team in scoring at 8.3 points a game and hit a team best 43 three-pointers. He also led the team with 48 assists.
Junior forward Mike Marvin (Hatboro-Horsham) scored 15 points while also contributing 11 rebounds, two blocks and a steal in Penn State Abington’s 74-65 loss to Marymount College in the first round of the ECAC Southeast Region Tournament on Wednesday.
Senior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) scored seven points in No. 4 Cabrini’s 85-76 loss to No. 22 Richard Stockton College on Saturday in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament. He closed his career with 1,403 points, number four on the program’s all-time scoring list. His 559 career rebounds rank 12th. He was part of the winningest senior class in the history of the program, boasting 106 victories, including three appearances in the NCAA Sweet 16 and a trip to the 2012 NCAA National Championship game. In Friday’s 100-69 opening round win over Bridgewater State, Rafferty hit 5-of-9 shots from beyond the arc en route to 23 points in 23 minutes. Senior AJ Picard (Souderton), who was sidelined with an injury, also saw his collegiate career end.
Villanova sophomore Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) received honorable mention All-BIG EAST recognition, one of five Wildcats honored by the BIG EAST. He led the team in minutes played, averaging 30.8 per game. He also led the team in assists with 109 in 31 games and was fourth in points scored with 10 per game.
Arcidiacono scored 11 points in Villanova’s 77-59 win over Georgetown on Saturday in front of 18,828 at the Wells Fargo Center. The Wildcats clinched the BIG EAST regular season title with Thursday night’s 77-70 win over Xavier. Arcidiacono contributed 11 points and seven assists in the win. The Wildcats closed out the regular season with a 28-3 record overall (16-2 in league play).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Senior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) saw her collegiate career come to an end with Cabrini’s 78-73 overtime loss to No. 8 Montclair State on Saturday in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Sandone had 13 points and closed her career as the program’s fifth all-time scorer with 1,366 points. In Friday’s opening round 76-61 win over Moravian College, Sandone scored 16 points. The win was the program’s first NCAA Tournament win in eight appearances.
Sophomore Alex Wheatley (Council Rock South) scored a game-high 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting and added six rebounds, three blocks, two steals and an assist in 19 minutes of work in Princeton’s 69-46 win over Cornell on Friday.
Shippensburg sophomore Stephanie Knauer (North Penn) earned All-PSAC Eastern Division first team honors. It is her second all-conference honor after receiving second team honors last year. Knauer ranked fifth in the PSAC in scoring at 16.3 points per game and 12th in rebounding at 7.9 per game. She led the PSAC in field goal percentage virtually all season and finished with a 62.1 percent (151-of-243) – a mark that ranks third in Division II entering this week. Knauer posted seven double-doubles and ranks sixth in the PSAC in free throw percentage at 82.1.
Sophomore Ciara ‘CC’ Andrews (Cheltenham) scored 13 points in St. Joe’s 82-79 loss to George Washington in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Championships on Thursday. In Thursday’s 89-55 win over George Mason, Andrews scored 12 points.
Junior center Emily Leer (Abington) had a perfect first half in Villanova’s 81-64 win over Marquette on Tuesday, connecting on 8-of-8 shots from the field and 5-of-5 from three-point range for 21 first half points. Lee finished the game with 23 points, connecting on 9-of-11 from the floor and 5-of-6 from beyond the arc.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Craig Hunsberger (Pennridge) scored a goal and won 7-of-12 face-offs in Elizabethtown’s 19-10 loss to Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday. He also retrieved a game-high nine ground balls.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Freshman Kelly Schlupp (Council Rock South) earned her first collegiate win in goal in No. 7 The College of New Jersey’s 16-14 win over Messiah on Saturday. Schlupp had two saves.
Ashley Bossert (Wissahickon) recorded a goal and an assist, Aubrey Bossert (Wissahickon) scored one goal, and Carly Ball (North Penn) had four ground balls in Lock Haven’s 14-6 over Mercy College on Saturday.
Kelly Hamilton (Central Bucks South) recorded a hat trick in No. 5 Lock Haven’s 18-5 win at Tiffin on Friday. Lock Haven returns seven all-conference players from last year’s team, including Hamilton and Melinda Wojt (Souderton).
Madi Brunk (Cheltenham) assisted on six of her team’s 14 goals in Messiah’s 16-14 loss to No. 7 The College of New Jersey on Saturday. In Wednesday’s 12-11 loss to Dickinson, Brunk tallied her first goal of the season.

Sophomore Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) was 2-for-2 with a two-run double in Lehigh’s 4-2 win over St. Mary’s at the LMU Invitational in Los Angeles on Friday. The CB South grad, who has started all 14 games for her team, is second on the team with a .306 batting average (11-for-36). She has a team-high nine RBIs with a slugging percentage of .444.
Sophomore Haileigh Stocks (Central Bucks South) tossed a two-hit shutout in Robert Morris University’s 5-0 win over Gardner-Webb last Saturday at the Combat Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C. She struck out six and did not walk a batter.
Fordham freshman Lauren Quense (Neshaminy) was named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 2 after a solid weekend of play at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex. The award marks the second weekly honor of the season for Quense, who took home Rookie of the Week accolades two weeks ago. The freshman standout surrendered only two runs and six hits over 13.2 innings of work, picking up a complete game victory over Syracuse in the process. Against Ohio State, Quense pitched six innings of three-hit ball, surrendering only one run to the Buckeyes in a tough 1-0 loss for the Rams. After holding #1 Florida scoreless for two-thirds of an inning last Saturday, Quense took to the circle one day later and pitched a gem, giving up only three hits and one earned run over seven innings of work, striking out seven and leading the Rams to a 2-1 win over Syracuse.
Erin Quense (Neshaminy) was a combined 4-for-7 with a pair of home runs and six RBI to lead West Chester to a split of its non-league doubleheader at Shepherd Saturday. Quense smashed a pair of home runs in game one (a 13-10 loss) to up her total on the season to three. Jess Shuck (Council Rock South) also hit a homer for the Golden Rams while Megan Kelly (Hatboro-Horsham) went 4-for-5 in the opener with a double and run scored along with an RBI. She also stole two bases. In West Chester’s 13-5 win in the nightcap, Quense was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Ali Vavala (Central Bucks East) hit an RBI double.
Justyna Pepkowski (Quakertown) tossed a three-hit shutout in Elizabethtown’s 7-0 win over Salve Reina, striking out five. In Wednesday’s 11-3 win over Misericordia, Pepkowski earned the win on the mound.
Freshman centerfielder Ashleigh Sharp (Upper Dublin) collected two hits in Chestnut Hill’s 7-2 loss to the Florida Institute of Technology on Tuesday.

MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Gettysburg junior Ashton Leyens (Upper Dublin) qualified to compete in two individual events as well two relays at the NCAA Division III Championships that will be held March 19-22 in Indianapolis. He will compete in the 100 and 200 freestyle as well as the 200 and 400 freestyle relays. The 400 free relay is ranked 10th (3:01.68) and the 200 is 14th (1:22.34). Leyens is ranked 31st in the 200 free (1:40.77) and 39th in the 100 free (45.80).
Eric Jensen (Upper Dublin) was part of the University at Buffalo’s fourth place 400 free relay team that posted a time of 2:59.04 at the Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday. He also was part of Buffalo’s third place 800 free relay that posted a season-best time of 6:37.15.
Penn State junior TJ Schenkel (Council Rock South) will represent the men at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships. Schenkel has enjoyed a breakout 2013-14 season, posting personal best scores in the one and three meter dives. The junior had a standout performance at Navy on Jan. 25, sweeping the two diving events and setting career-best marks in the one meter with a score of 331.13 and the three meter, recording a mark of 355.43. On the season, Schenkel has totaled six victories, three in each event. The junior is coming off an impressive showing at the Big Ten Championships, securing a 14th place finish in the three-meter event with a score of 349.00.
WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Rider University freshman Kelly Toner (Upper Dublin) will be making her first appearance at the NCAA Zone ‘A’ Championships. Toner, who was fourth on the one-meter (229.05) and fifth on the three-meter (218.00) at MAACs, reached a score of 274.05 on the one-meter board in a conference meet against St. Peter’s to qualify for the NCAA Zone competition. She will also compete on the three-meter board.
MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
University of Pennsylvania sophomore Drew Magaha (Upper Moreland) earned second team All-Ivy status. Magaha earned his first All-Ivy accolade with the sixth fastest time in school history in the men’s 500 meters. Just one day after posting the program’s eighth fastest time in the event, the Upper Moreland grad topped that effort with his finish of 1:03.94 at the 2014 Heptagonal Championships at Dartmouth University last Sunday. It was just four-tenths of a second behind the champion and the best time for a Quaker since Tim Cary in 2010 (1:03.84).
Johns Hopkins junior Michael Spadaro (Council Rock South) was named the Centennial Conference’s outstanding field performer for the winter indoor season. He won the triple jump with a leap of 44’1.50 while also finishing first in the Heptathlon with a Centennial record 4,552 points. Spadaro is the third Hopkins track and field athlete to be named outstanding field performer since its inception in 2003. He received first team All-Centennial honors in both the triple jump and heptathlon and earned honorable mention recognition in the pole vault.
WRESTLING
Bucknell junior 285-pounder Joe Stolfi (Souderton) moved into first place on Bucknell’s single season pins list with 22. He also etched his named in the Bison record books as he became the third Bucknell grappler to win an individual EIWA title. The second-seeded Stolfi advanced to the semifinals with two wins on Saturday. He posted two more victories on Sunday, including a 9-7 decision over top-seeded Billy Smith (Rutgers) in the title bout. Stolfi joins Andy Rendos (2010 – 165 pounds) and Kevin LeValley (2011 – 149 pounds) as Bucknell wrestlers to win EIWA crowns.
“Joe wrestled a very impressive tournament,” said Bison head coach Dan Wirnsberger in a news release. “He wrestled a consistent tournament. I am proud of him and how he represented Bucknell University and our program. The fact that he was able to bring home a third EIWA championship for our young program means a lot to us. His performance in the final shows a lot about the consistency he has wrestled with all year. He wrestled with grit and determination. He executed well and scored points when everybody in the building knew he needed to score points, and that is difficult.”
Stolfi trailed Smith 5-4 entering the third period. An early takedown in the third staked Smith, who entered the weekend with a 22-5 record this season, to a 7-5 advantage. Stolfi concluded the period with an escape, a takedown and the riding time point for the two-point win. In addition to winning the EIWA title on Sunday, Stolfi secured his second consecutive automatic berth to the NCAA Championships. Last year he finished in the top 12 in the 285-pound bracket, one win shy of All-America honors. Stolfi is now 33-6 this season and has won 18 consecutive bouts. He is tied for eighth place on the program’s single-season wins list. Stolfi has now been an EIWA placewinner in two straight years. He finished third in the 285-pound weight class last March. Bucknell finished in 15th place in the team standings with 42.5 points. Stolfi will now begin preparations for the NCAA Championships, which take place March 20-22 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Bloomsburg redshirt sophomore Matt Rappo (Council Rock South) placed fifth at 141 pounds at the 2014 Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Championships. He started the day dropping his match to Clarion’s Tyler Bedelyon by fall in the quarterfinals. In the consolation semis, he fell to Sahid Kargbno of George Mason before beating Bedelyon by fall in 3:33 in the fifth place match.
MEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Ryan Garven (Council Rock North) contributed eight kills and three digs while teammate Jeff Bishop (Souderton) had four kills and four blocks in Cairn University’s 3-0 loss to Juniata on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Liberty University, Gaven led the Highlanders with 13 kills while Bishop added eight kills for the match with zero errors. In Cairn’s 3-1 win over Hannibal-LaGrange on Tuesday, Garven had 12 kills and seven digs while Bishop added seven kills and eight blocks.
Senior Austin Jacoby (Pennridge) contributed a season-high 21 kills in No. 15 Stevenson’s 3-1 win over Thiel on Saturday. It marked the ninth time that Jacoby has totaled 20 or more kills in his career. His career-high is 26 set in his very first appearance as a Mustang on Jan. 22, 2011, vs. Lasell. He now has 1,148 kills for his career, the second most in school history behind JR Jackson’s 1,511. He also had nine digs. In Friday’s 3-2 loss to No. 2 Juniata in a battle of CVC unbeaten, Jacoby had 12 kills.
