BASEBALL
Daniel Chou (Wissahickon)
had a game high in hits with a perfect 3-for-3 day in Caltech’s 16-0 loss to a Cal Lutheran squad ranked 17th in the NCBWA poll. It was his eighth multi-hit game of the season, and it is the third time in the last six games the sophomore has had at least two hits. Chou also stole his team best 13th base of the season. Chou has started all 34 of Caltech’s games this season, and he is the team’s top hitter with a .336 batting average (36-for-107). He also leads the team in runs scored with 22. He has four doubles, one triple and 12 RBIs.

Junior second baseman Billy Fleming (Council Rock South) had a pair of hits in West Virginia’s 2-0 loss to No. 11 Texas on Saturday afternoon in front of 1,624 fans, the third largest attendance in Hawley Field’s history. In Friday night’s 5-3 win over Texas, Fleming contributed an RBI single in the bottom of the first.

Matt Hollenbeck (Hatboro-Horsham) threw seven innings in Georgetown’s 6-4 win over Villanova on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits while setting a career high with eight strikeouts. With the win, Hollenbeck upped his record to 4-2 on the season.

Kutztown junior Brandon Martinez (North Penn) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 2 First team for the first time in his career. With his first team recognition, he advances to the Capital One Academic All-American Team ballot. He is KU baseball’s second Academic All-District First team nominee and the first since 2007. Martinez holds a 3.83 GPA as a business administration major, the second-highest GPA of the 10 student-athletes named to the All-District 2 team. He is also a two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete, earning the award in each of his first two years at KU. Earlier in the week, he was named to the All-PSAC first team for the second time in his career. He is batting a career-high .406 this season for fourth in the PSAC and eighth in KU single season history. His 2014 season was highlighted by breaking KU’s 31-year stolen base record of 30 swiped bases in a season. Martinez is currently 33-for-34 on stolen base attempts this season, the highest stolen base percentage in the PSAC among players with 20 or more. He also holds a perfect fielding percentage in 84 putouts this season.
Martinez collected an RBI with a sacrifice fly to plate the game’s only run in Kutztown’s 1-0 win over Millersville in the title game of the 2014 PSAC Tournament. The Golden Bears are the first No. 4 seed to win the PSAC championship. This is the seventh PSAC championship in program history and first since 2008. Kutztown won seven of its final eight PSAC games to qualify for the PSAC Tournament and currently boasts a six-game winning streak heading into the NCAA Tournament. In Kutztown’s 6-2 win over Pitt-Johnstown in Friday’s semifinals, Martinez had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored one run. Warren Stimpson (Wissahickon) was 1-for-3 with an RBI. In Thursday’s 2-1 opening round win in 12 innings over Seton Hill, Martinez was 2-for-4.

Delaware Valley freshman outfielder Kyle Wenger (Souderton) was named the Freedom Conference Rookie of the Year and also was a first team honoree. The Souderton grad had a breakout freshman season as he started all 34 games and leads the team in batting (.464), slugging (.688), on-base percentage (.531), hits (52), RBIs (28), stolen bases (16) and triples (3). His 10 doubles has him tied for team high honors, and he is also second in home runs (3) and third in runs scored (26).
Delaware Valley senior utility player Brandon Bell (Norristown) earned second team All-Freedom Conference recognition. It is his second all-conference accolade after earning first team honors at second base last year. He started all 34 games and is batting .339 with 10 doubles, two home runs, 27 runs scored and 14 RBIs. In the field, Bell has committed just five errors in 163 chances (.969 fielding percentage) while splitting time at second base and shortstop.
Delaware Valley senior shortstop Pete O’Hara (Council Rock North) received honorable mention All-Freedom Conference recognition after moving from the outfield to the infield this season. It is his third All-Freedom honor (second team in 2011, first team in 2013). He has started all 34 contests and is hitting .362 with team highs of four home runs and 37 runs scored. O’Hara also has nine doubles, one triple and 14 stolen bases to his credit. As of Thursday, he was second on the school’s all-time list for hits (193), runs scored (143) and stolen bases (78).

O’Hara became just the second player in school history to reach the 200-hit plateau for a career as Delaware Valley culminated its 2014 campaign with a non-conference doubleheader sweep of Valley Forge Christian on Saturday (22-0, 20-4). O’Hara entered the day needing seven hits to reach the milestone. In the first game, he went 3-for-5 with three singles, three RBIs and two runs scored. In game two, he recorded a single and a two-run triple in the first inning but flied out to center in the third. Coming to bat again in the fourth inning, O’Hara hit an RBI single to reach the milestone. He finished his storied career as the school’s second all-time leader in runs scored (150) and stolen bases (78).  Also in game one, Wenger was 2-for-2 with two doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored while Bell was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs and Bobby Altieri (Norristown) was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and three runs scored. In game two, Wenger was 2-for-3 with a double, home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Altieri was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored, and Bell was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Wayne Kinsey (Norristown) got the start at third base and went 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Wenger finished his freshman season with a .479 batting average that placed him seventh on the all-time single season list. His 13 doubles tied him for fifth in Aggie single season history.  In Del Val’s 8-1 win over The City College of New York last Sunday, Bell and Wenger both had two hits.

Jesse Kohler (Upper Dublin) earned the win in Oberlin College’s 2-1 win over Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday. The UD grad allowed just one hit over the final 2.1 innings.

Sophomore Nobel Unger III (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed a pinch hit sacrifice fly in Chestnut Hill’s 9-5 loss to Dominican College in the opening round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament on Saturday.

Jim Smith (North Penn) knocked in four runs in Saint Peter’s 11-3 win over Iona on Saturday in game one of a twinbill. The North Penn grad had the big blow of the game, a grand slam to break a 2-2 tie in the third inning. He finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs.

Zach Philippi (Harry S Truman) threw a scoreless inning in relief in York’s 9-3 win over Elizabethtown on Monday. In Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Scranton, freshman Randy Frankenfield (Wissahickon) allowed just two earned runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings but was forced to absorb the loss.

Craig Lepre (North Penn) was 2-for-3 in Albany’s 11-1 win over NJIT on Saturday in game one of a twinbill. In Thursday’s 6-4 loss to Central Connecticut, Lepre was 2-for-4. In last Sunday’s 12-7 loss to Stony Brook, Lepre had a pair of hits.

Elizabethtown junior Kristopher Davis (Central Bucks East) received All-Commonwealth Conference honorable mention recognition. Davis registered a team best 1.61 earned run average in a team high 50.1 innings. He pitched four complete games, including a three-hit shutout win over Albright on April 1. Davis walked only eight and allowed nine earned runs in his best season to date.

Tom Kreiling (Neshaminy) was 3-for-6 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored in Penn State Abington’s doubleheader sweep of Gallaudet University on Saturday.

Eastern University sophomore outfielder Andrew Check (Central Bucks West) received All-Freedom Conference honorable mention recognition. The West grad transferred to Eastern this season and made an immediate impact. Check opened the year with an eight-game hitting streak en route to a .342 season at the plate. He scored 25 runs and knocked in 17 runs. He also had eight doubles and a triple.

Lock Haven junior Ryan Henritzy (Council Rock North) has earned All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference second team honors. The Rock North grad hit .321 with 21 RBIs and two home runs. He also recorded seven doubles and was 12-for-14 on stolen base attempts. Henritzy, who started all 41 games, had a .411 on-base percentage and recorded a .960 fielding percentage, playing primarily in the outfield after an early season stint at second base. He also led the team in hits with 45. On the season, Henritzy recorded 10 multiple hit games.

Dylan Tice (Pennridge) was 4-for-8 in IUP’s doubleheader sweep of Clarion last Sunday. Jared Weed (Council Rock North) earned the win in IUP’s 4-2 win in game two of the twinbill, improving to 3-5 on the season after striking out five and giving up two earned runs in 6.2 innings of work.

Robert Knox (Upper Moreland) had one of his team’s two hits in West Chester’s 6-0 loss to Mercyhurst in a PSAC quarterfinal game on Thursday.

David Pine (Council Rock North) singled and stole a base in Millersville’s 1-0 loss to Kuztown in the PSAC Championship game on Saturday. Millersville’s season will likely continue in the NCAA Atlantic Regional for the third time in the last four years. The Marauders were ranked No. 3 in the latest ranking.

Ken McCormick (Pennsbury) was 3-for-4 in Philadelphia University’s 9-5 loss to Concordia (N.Y.) on Monday. In last Sunday’s 9-1 win over Bloomsburg, Rob Spragis (Central Bucks South) earned the win on the mound, scattering seven hits over seven innings and striking out two to record his second win of the season. McCormick, who contributed a sacrifice fly, saw his 18-game hitting streak and his string of reaching base in 21 games come to an end.

Dan Callahan (Council Rock South) was 2-for-3 in La Salle’s 13-0 loss to Fordham on Saturday afternoon.

John Burns (Neshaminy) singled and scored a run in Gwynedd Mercy’s 4-0 win over Marywood on Monday.

Matt Hanson (Central Bucks West) was 2-for-4 with three runs scored in Moravian’s 11-0 win over The Catholic University in an elimination game of the 2014 Landmark Conference Tournament on Sunday.

Lebanon Valley senior rightfielder/catcher received All-Commonwealth Conference honorable mention recognition as a utility player. It is his second consecutive All-CC honor. He hit .333 in 33 starts, driving in 25 runs with nine extra base hits. Filer had a slugging percentage of .430 and walked 13 times. He led LVC with nine sacrifices.
Filer doubled and scored a run in Lebanon Valley’s 9-1 loss to Alvernia in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament on Friday. In Thursday’s 5-2 loss to Widener in an opening round game, Filer was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Freshman rightfielder Greg McDonough (Wissahickon) was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI in Widener’s 3-2 win over Alvernia in Saturday’s Commonwealth Conference title game. It is Widener’s second Commonwealth Conference title and eighth league championship, which includes six from the Middle Atlantic Conference. In Friday’s 7-5 semifinal win over Messiah, McDonough was 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Pride.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Kutztown sophomore guard/forward Ryan Connolly (Souderton) was the recipient of the Coaches Award at the KU’s annual All-Sports Banquet on Tuesday. The sophomore led the team with 41 three-pointers made. Overall, he shot 36 percent from beyond the arc on the season. He finished the year connecting on 88.9 percent of his free throws. That mark ranks second all-time in a single season in KU men’s basketball history. Connolly averaged 9.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in 22 games.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Cabrini senior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) added two more honors to her resume as the senior guard was named to the ECAC South All-Star second team. She also was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women’s Basketball team. Sandone, the 2014 Colonial States Athletic Conference Player of the Year, averaged a team leading 14.5 points per game, tied for fourth in the CSAC. Sandone also posted 3.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals per contest. She connected on 1.8 three-pointers per game and hit 83.3 percent from the free throw line, both among the best in the conference. Sandone was the Blue and White’s top scorer in 12 of the team’s 29 games, including a career high 27 points in a 74-63 win over Kean College. The senior closed her career with 1,366 points, fifth on Cabrini’s all-time scoring list, and 163 career steals, sixth all time. Sandone earned DIII News All-American Honorable Mention.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Kutztown senior Carolyn Fergus (North Penn) was the winner of the Coaches Award at KU’s annual All-Sports Banquet on Tuesday. The North Penn grad returned from a redshirt year and was a team leader this past fall. She finished 54th at the PSAC Championships and 87th at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals.

FOOTBALL
Kutztown senior wide receiver Matt Pirolli (William Tennent) was the recipient of the 2013 Coaches Award at KU’s annual All-Sports Banquet Tuesday. On offense, he caught six passes for 67 yards. He also played a key role on special teams.

WOMEN’S GOLF
Middlebury College junior Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) finished in 12th place at the Northeast Elite Invitational, carding an impressive 78 on day one (78-85-163) to pace the Panthers. Middlebury finished fourth in the six-team event.
MEN’S LACROSSE
Eastern University junior midfielder Joe Palo (Hatboro-Horsham) received second team All-Freedom Conference honors. The Eagles ranked 15th nationally in face-off winning percent as Palo and teammate Matt Lee combined to win 63.7 percent of the team’s face-offs. In last Saturday’s 20-3 win over DeSales, Palo won 13-of-15 face-offs in the first half and 14-of-16 overall.

Senior Paul Berger (Abington) scored a goal in Widener’s 12-7 loss to Albright in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals on Thursday.
Sophomore Chris Schneekloth (Central Bucks East) was 6-for-7 on face-offs in Cabrini’s 25-5 win over Marywood University in Saturday’s Colonial State Athletic Conference title game. Freshman Austin Marshall (Neshaminy) and sophomore Chris Treat saw action between the pipes, combining for four saves. It is Cabrini’s 14th consecutive conference crown.

Elizabethtown senior Craig Hunsberger (Pennridge) received honorable mention All-Commonwealth Conference recognition. It was his second conference honor after being named second team a year ago. The Pennridge grad scored 14 goals and dished out six assists for a 20-point season. His 79 shots and three game-winning goals led the Blue Jays. Hunsberger ranked second on the team in man-up goals (2) and ground balls (46). He was third in face-off wins with 36.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Penn State senior defender Lauren Purvis (Hatboro-Horsham) was named the American Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Year. The senior defender earned All-ALC first team honors. Purvis led the league with 1.81 caused turnovers per game as she became the program’s first non-goalkeeper to be named a player of the year. The defensive standout appeared in all 16 games this season, totaling 29 caused turnovers, 27 ground balls and seven draw controls. The reigning ALC Defensive Player of the Week was credited with at least three caused turnovers in five games this season, including a career high five caused turnovers in a 21-8 Nittany Lion win over Drexel on March 28.

Kelsey Gumbert (Pennsbury) scored two goals and assisted on another in West Chester’s 10-5 loss to No. 7 Lock Haven in the PSAC semifinals on Friday. In Tuesday’s 9-8 quarterfinal win over Seton Hill, Gumbert scored two goals and added an assist.

Four SOL alums – Allison Hawkins (Cheltenham), Julie McKay (Hatboro-Horsham), Sam Myers (Pennridge) and Anna Studenmund (Springfield) - are members of the University of Pittsburgh’s club lacrosse team that will be traveling to Virginia Beach to compete in the Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates (WCLA) National Tournament that begins Wednesday. The Pitt Panthers are the number one seed entering this year’s tournament and bring a 17-1 overall record and nine-game winning streak into the tournament, including a 14-12 win last weekend over the Ohio State Club team in the championship game of the Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL) tournament. The Panthers were WCLA national quarterfinalists last year and are making their ninth overall appearance in the US Lacrosse WCLA National Championship.
McKay recently was named to the WCLL first team. The sophomore attack player completed the regular season with 41 goals and 26 assists (67 points). She also was credited with 24 draw controls, 21 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.

St. Joseph’s senior Brittany Hanrahan (North Penn) was named to the All-Atlantic 10 second team. A two-time second team selection, the senior captain ranked second on the team in ground balls (38) and third in caused turnovers (22). Hanrahan averaged 1.3 ground balls per game in conference action and boasted seven three-plus ground ball games and five three-plus caused turnover games en route to ranking in the top five of the A-10 in both defensive categories. Hanrahan and co-captain Kaitlyn McSwiggan started all 16 games on the back line, and under their leadership, St. Joe’s concluded its season ranked second nationally in caused turnovers per game and seventh in ground balls per game.

Messiah College junior Madi Brunk (Cheltenham) received second team All-Commonwealth recognition. The Cheltenham grad had a team-leading total of 38 assists, just four shy of the single season record. She also scored 24 goals and collected 24 ground balls.
Brunk had two assists and three goals in Messiah’s 19-1 win over Alvernia in Thursday’s Commonwealth semifinal. In Saturday’s title game, Messiah suffered a heartbreaking 13-12 loss to Stevenson University, thanks to a Stevenson goal with 2.4 seconds to play. Brunk closed out the season just two assists shy of the program’s single season record.

Lock Haven senior Lindsay Walbrandt (Souderton) was named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference first team. The Souderton grad has been a key to Lock Haven’s defense and midfield transition game. On the season, she has 13 goals while adding one assist. Walbrandt, a first time All-PSAC selection, has 23 ground balls and draw controls as well as 11 caused turnovers.
Lock Haven junior Kelly Hamilton (Central Bucks South) was named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference second team. A second team selection last year as well, Hamilton has 46 goals on the season. She also has five assists, 31 draw controls, 25 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.
Lock Haven junior Melinda Wojt (Souderton) was named to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference third team. A two-time All-PSAC selection, Wojt was also a key defender with 17 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls.
Hamilton connected for a hat trick in No. 7 Lock Haven’s 9-7 win over No. 8 Mercyhurst in the 2014 PSAC Championship game Saturday. Wojt led the defense with three caused turnovers and three ground balls. The championship was Lock Haven’s seventh in school history and first since 2011. In Friday’s 10-5 win over West Chester, Hamilton netted a pair of goals and dished out one assist. Wojt scooped up six ground balls and caused three turnovers to lead the defense.

Kelly Schlupp (Council Rock South) was credited with one save in The College of New Jersey’s 15-3 win over Rowan University in the title game of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament, claiming the first championship offered by the conference. In Wednesday’s 20-1 semifinal win over Kean, Schlupp made one save for her 15th victory of the season.

Alvernia junior Jacquelyn Strange (Council Rock North) received All-Commonwealth Conference honorable mention recognition. The junior attack player led her team in scoring with 41 goals and five assists. She scored at least one goal in all but one game this season and answered her only goal-less game with a season high eight goals in a win over Marywood. She scored three or more goals in a game seven times this season.

Bloomsburg junior Carly Ball (North Penn) was named to the All-PSAC third team as a defender. The North Penn grad finished the season with 25 ground balls, 15 caused turnovers and 16 draw controls. She also added eight goals and an assist for nine points. Ball registered a season high three caused turnovers twice this season, first against Shippensburg and second against No. 11 IUP. In 2013, Ball also was named to the all-conference third team.
In Bloomsburg’s 12-11 loss in overtime to No. 12 IUP in a PSAC quarterfinal game, Ball had three ground balls while Ashley Bossert (Wissahickon) had two goals, two ground balls and one caused turnover and Aubrey Bossert (Wissahickon) had one goal and three draw controls.

MEN’S SOCCER
Manor College sophomore Paul Haggerty (Hatboro-Horsham) was named Defenseman of the Year at the school’s annual awards banquet on April 23.

Chestnut Hill senior Ross Garabedian (Hatboro-Horsham) was given the Coaches Award at the annual athletics awards reception on Tuesday. The award is given to the student-athlete who – in the eyes of their head coach – has made a significant, intangible contribution to their team.

SOFTBALL
Junior Julie Wambold (Hatboro-Horsham) singled to drive in a run in Syracuse’s 7-3 win over Virginia Tech last Sunday. Syracuse will begin play in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) tournament on Thursday.
Marywood freshman Brooke Labs (Pennridge) was named to the All-CSAC first team. The Pennridge grad led the Pacers with a .465 batting average and .747 slugging percentage. The rookie started and played in 32 games during the regular season, collecting 46 hits and a team-leading 36 RBIs. She had 14 doubles, four triples and two homers to go along with 28 runs scored.
Labs was named to the Colonials State Athletic Conference Softball Hitter of the Week Honor Roll for the week ending April 27. The Pennridge grad hit .483 for the week to lead the Pacers to a 6-0 CSAC and 7-3 overall mark. In 10 games, she was 14-for-29 at the plate and walked 10 times. She had a .615 on-base percentage and a .690 slugging percentage. In addition to four doubles and one triple, Labs had six RBIs and scored five runs. This is the second award of the year for Labs. She was named CSAC Hitter of the Week on March 24.

Lehigh sophomore third baseman Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) was named to the Capital One Academic All-District II Team. The CB South grad has been Lehigh’s top hitter in each of her first two seasons and also is one of the top academic performers on the softball team. To be eligible, individuals must be at least a sophomore as well as a starter or key reserve on her team with a minimum GPA of 3.30. CoSIDA’s District II consists of schools in Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. Decker holds a 3.64 cumulative GPA as a behavioral neuroscience major. She has made the Dean’s List in two of her first three semesters at Lehigh and was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll following a freshman season in which she was both the Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Year. Decker was also named to the NFCA All-Academic Team in the fall. On the field, Decker leads Lehigh with a .390 batting average, 10 doubles, eight home runs and 36 runs batted in. She leads the Patriot League in home runs, slugging percentage (.695) and on-base percentage (.532). Last year, Decker won the Patriot League’s triple crown, batting .415 with nine home runs and 46 RBIs. Her 17 career home runs are already good for fifth place on Lehigh’s career list.
Decker singled home a run in Lehigh’s 9-1 win over Army on Saturday. The win clinched Lehigh’s third straight Patriot League regular season championship. In Saturday’s doubleheader sweep of Army, Decker was 5-for-5 and reached base on all eight plate appearances. Her solo home run with two outs in the third inning of Lehigh’s 5-3 win in game one knotted the score 2-2. It was her ninth home run of the season. In Lehigh’s 8-0 win in game two, Decker was 3-for-3 with a triple.

Freshman outfielder Bridget Hunt (Harry S Truman) was 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Binghamton’s 6-4 win over Stony Brook on Saturday. The home run was the sixth of the season for the Truman grad.

Susquehanna junior Morgan Lewis (Council Rock North) was named to the All-Landmark Conference first team. The Rock North grad was coming off a year that saw her named 2013 Landmark Co-Pitcher of the Year. She has continued to anchor the SU pitching staff. She leads the team with 11 victories and a 2.06 ERA. Her 126 strikeouts lead all conference players, and she has 12 complete games – including three shutouts – to her credit. She has walked just 42 batters in 115.2 innings of work, and opposing batters are hitting just .231 against her
Susquehanna freshman Lauren Creamer (Neshaminy) was named to the second team. The Neshaminy grad stepped in when a teammate was injured and put up big numbers. She started 23 of the 27 games in which she appeared, playing primarily third base. She boasts a .552 slugging percentage with six doubles and four home runs. Creamer has driven in 16 runs and has a .902 fielding percentage at third base.
Cramer hit a three-run, pinch hit home run to cap off an eight-run fifth inning in Susquehanna’s 10-2 win in five innings over No. 4 Elizabethtown in an opening round game of the 2014 Landmark Conference Tournament. Lewis earned her 12th win of the season, allowing just two runs on four hits. After falling to The Catholic University in a second round game, Susquehanna earned an 8-0 win over Moravian in five innings. Lewis allowed just one hit in five scoreless innings with five strikeouts. Creamer was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. Susquehanna came up short in its bid to win back-to-back titles, falling to The Catholic University for the second time in the tournament, this time by a 7-5 score.

Freshman Ally Horvath (Central Bucks South) was 2-for-3 with a run scored in Widener’s 6-5 loss to Alvernia in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament on Friday. In last Sunday’s 4-2 loss to Messiah, Horvath hit her first collegiate home run. She threw seven innings on the mound, allowing two earned runs and striking out three to finish the regular season with a 6-1 record and a 2.91 ERA.

Valerie Sadowl (Hatboro-Horsham) had two hits, including an RBI triple, in the first game of the University of Connecticut’s twinbill against Central Florida on Saturday, a 7-4 loss.

Megan Kelly (Hatboro-Horsham) hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning of West Chester’s 7-5 loss to IUP in an elimination game of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament at Veterans Park in Quakertown on Friday night. In a 2-1 win over Gannon in an elimination game on Friday afternoon, Kelly hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. The two teams were deadlocked 1-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh. In Thursday’s 8-3 second round loss to Shippensburg, Laura Altenburger (Neshaminy) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. In Thursday’s 10-1 opening round win over Edinboro in five innings, Jess Schuck (Council Rock South) hit a three-run home run in the third inning. She reached base each time up and scored three runs.

Lauren Klepchick (Central Bucks South) hit a three-run home run in a five-run third inning in Rhode Island’s 7-6 loss to George Washington in game one of a twinbill on Saturday. She finished the game 2-for-3 with a double, home run, three RBIs and one run scored. In URI’s 6-2 win in game two, Klepchick was 2-for-3 with one RBI and a run scored.

Junior Liz Parkins (Souderton) was 3-for-3 in Shippensburg’s 5-4 loss to No. 12 California (Pa.) in the PSAC Championship Tournament at Veterans Park in Quakertown on Saturday. Shippensburg fell to California 4-3 in the winner-take-all PSAC championship game later in the day. Parkins led the team on the week with a .429 average on 6-of-14 batting. The Raiders (34-15) will await their seed in the NCAA Division II Tournament. In Thursday’s 8-3 win over East top seed West Chester, Parkins was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.

Suzanne Swanicke (Pennsbury) was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored and Christina Bascara (Pennsbury) was 2-for-2 with a double and RBI in La Salle’s 8-4 loss to Saint Louis in game one of a twinbill on Saturday. In La Salle’s 10-6 loss in game two, Swanicke and Bascara both singled and scored.

Penn State Abington freshman pitcher Emily Wrenn (Hatboro-Horsham) was named to the All-North Eastern Athletic Conference first team. The Hatboro grad had a 3.71 ERA in 85 innings of work. She earned 11 victories on the year and struck out 30 opposing batters. She also threw 14 complete games, including two shutouts. Wrenn is one of just three freshmen selected to the All-Conference First Team in the South Division.
Penn State Abington freshman outfielder Danielle Jones (Harry S Truman) was named to the All-North Eastern Athletic Conference second team. The Truman grad batted .372. She scored 28 runs, recorded 35 hits and stole seven bases, all team highs for 2014. In center field, Jones recorded a .944 fielding percentage with 32 putouts.

Wrenn earned the win in Penn State Abington’s 9-1 win over Wilson in five innings in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday. She allowed just one run on three hits as she fanned three of the 20 batters she faced. Penn State Abington saw its season come to an end when the Nittany Lions fell to SUNYIT 12-4. Nicole Battaglio (Upper Merion) contributed an RBI single in the loss. In Friday’s 11-9 loss to Keuka College in an opening round game. Freshman third baseman Bianca Monerosso (Abington) was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Holy Family junior Kelsi Bunda (Pennsbury) received honorable mention All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference recognition. It is her first All-CACC honor. Bunda is hitting a career high .267 to go along with new career marks in hits (23), runs (16), walks (18), slugging percentage (.314) and on-base percentage (.400). She has also tallied 10 RBIs, one shy of her career high of 11 set last season.

Nikki Alden (William Tennent) led off the fourth inning of St. Joe’s 7-2 win over St. Bonaventure on Saturday with a solo home run, her fourth of the year. She finished the game 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Alden had a double in the Hawks’ 4-1 win in game one of the doubleheader sweep.

Gwynedd Mercy senior Stephanie Farrar (North Penn) was named to the All-Colonial States Athletic Conference second team. The North Penn grad is now a four-time all-conference selection after receiving her third straight second team nod. Farrar leads the CSAC in triples (7) while leading the team with 36 hits, 14 extra base hits and is second with 20 runs scored while batting .391 in 28 games. In 22 CSAC games this year, she batted .447 (34-of-76).
Farrar singled in her team’s only run in Gwynedd Mercy’s 8-1 loss to Immaculata in a 2014 CSAC Tournament first round game on Monday.

Freshman Kristyn Marinelli (Central Bucks South) hit a solo home run in the fourth inning of Lafayette’s 3-1 loss to Boston University in last Sunday’s season finale.

MEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Johns Hopkins senior Michael Spadaro (Council Rock South) won the decathlon at the Centennial Conference Championships with 5,441 points. The Rock South grad took second in the 110m hurdles (17.94), second in the discus (33.62m), third in the pole vault (3.40,), fourth in the javelin (41.04) and eighth in the 1500m run to outpace the field and win his second individual conference championship this year. One day earlier, Spadaro won the 100m dash (11.58), finished second in the long jump (5.91), shot put (11.91) and high jump 91.78) and sixth in the 400m dash (56.97).

University of Pennsylvania sophomore Drew Magaha (Upper Moreland) became one of just a select few in school history to break 1:50 in the 800m run. His collegiate best effort of 1:49.96 placed him third at Princeton’s Elite Meet and finished just outside Penn’s all-time top 10.

After clinching the Atlantic-10 800m indoor title, St. Joseph’s junior Matthew McGarvey (Central Bucks West) demolished his previous 800m PR by .90 seconds to lead the 800m preliminary field of 22 long sprinters at Saturday’s A-10 Championships in Amherst, Mass., with a time of 1:51.12.  Teammate John Eisemann (Central Bucks South) raced to an eighth-place qualification in 10.94 in the 100 meters.

Shippensburg sophomore Jalen Ramsey (Norristown) captured second in high jump at the 2014 PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday with a leap of 6-8 1/4.  On Saturday, Ramsey was part of the 4x100m relay that captured first place with a time of 41.89, edging West Chester by .03 seconds and avenging the disappointment of last year’s disqualification. Junior Matt Bree (Central Bucks West) was part of Shippensburg’s winning 4x800m relay that posted a time of 7:46.85. Shippensburg captured the team title. It is the program’s sixth consecutive outdoor title.

Freshman Nick Pettit (Central Bucks South) was part of Widener’s 4x800m relay team that finished second at the Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Widener captured its third straight MAC outdoor track and field title.

James Wilson (Central Bucks South) was part of Bloomsburg’s 4x800 relay team that took seventh at the 2014 PSAC Track and Field Championships with a time of 8:05.51.

Senior Keith Parker-Washington (Upper Moreland) was part of East Stroudsburg’s second place 4x400 relay team at the 2014 PSAC Track and Field Championships Saturday, posting a time of 3:12.07, an NCAA provisional, breaking the mark of 3:13.91 set in 2011.  The Upper Moreland grad finished third in the 200m run with a time of 22:25 and finished sixth in the 100m dash (10.87). Teammate Corey Smith (Central Bucks West) finished seventh in the pole vault (14-8 ¾). Eric Conard (Souderton) finished ninth in the decathlon with 5,708 points.

WOMEN’S TRACK & FIELD
Senior Monique Clemons (Wissahickon) was part of Shippensburg’s first place 4x400m relay team at the 2014 PSAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a time of 3:47.18 to set a new PSAC meet record. Sophomore Carolyn Meier (Upper Dublin) was part of Shippensburg’s 4x800m relay that finished fourth with a time of 9:29.82. Meier posted a split of 2:21. Individually, Meier – a swimmer at SU just two months into her track career - finished seventh in the 800m run with a time of 2:18.59.

Bloomsburg University’s Kate Dodds (Upper Dublin) won the 10k title at the 2014 PSAC Track and Field Championships on Thursday at Shippensburg University. The Upper Dublin grad, seeded second in the event, grabbed control of the race around the halfway mark and slowly built her advantage through the second half of the race. Dodds opened with a lap of 87 seconds and closed the 25-lap race with an 84-second lap to finish in 37:10.51. She won by more than 15 seconds ahead of Shannon Cruz of Millersville. On Saturday, Dodds came back and took fifth in the 5000 meters with a time of 17:56.74, a personal best by more than 20 seconds. Teammate Tayler Harkins (North Penn) took fifth in the shot put with a throw of 12.16 meters (39’ 10.75”). Alexis Rankin (Hatboro-Horsham) was eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.76. She was part of the Huskies’ third place 4x800 relay team that posted a time of 9:27.67.

Freshman Alexis Bell (Norristown) was part of East Stroudsburg’s third place 4x100 relay team that posted a time of 48.03 at the 2014 PSAC Track and Field Championships. She finished 12th in the 200 meter run with a time of 26.28.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Kutztown sophomore middle hitter Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) was named team MVP at the annual All-Sports Banquet Tuesday. A member of the All-PSAC East first team, Stringer led the team with 321 kills (2.74 per set). Her 30.5 kill percentage also was a KU best. She led the Golden Bears with 98 blocks, including 27 solo efforts. Stringer ranked second in the PSAC in solo blocks.
