BASEBALL
Kutztown junior outfielder Brandon Martinez (North Penn) was named to the Capital One Academic All-America First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Martinez holds a 3.85 GPA as a business administration major after a 4.0 semester this past spring. He was selected to the All-Atlantic Region Second Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), Daktronics and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) for the second consecutive year. His career best .392 batting average was the fifth best output in the PSAC. The first team All-PSAC East choice was 35-for-36 on stolen base attempts, setting a new KU record for steals in a season. The two-time All-Region and All-PSAC pick held a perfect fielding percentage (1.000) this season with a career high 102 putouts. Martinez is KU baseball’s first Academic All-American in program history and was the second Academic All-District First Team nominee, the first since 2007. Martinez is one of four student-athletes across all programs to be named to the First Team. He is also a two-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete, earning the award in each of his first two years at KU. His GPA was the fifth highest of the first team honorees. The 11 Capital One Academic All-America first team members hold a composite 3.74 GPA.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Cabrini senior Fran Rafferty (Upper Merion) was named to the Winter/Spring 2014 Colonial States Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, which recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.20 or higher during their semester of completion while using a full season of eligibility as determined by the NCAA.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Cabrini senior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) was named to the Winter/Spring 2014 Colonial States Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, which recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.20 or higher during their semester of completion while using a full season of eligibility as determined by the NCAA.

MEN’S LACROSSE
Cabrini sophomore Austin Edelman (Upper Merion), freshman Austin Marshall (Neshaminy) and junior Patrick Nolan (Plymouth Whitemarsh) were named to the Winter/Spring 2014 Colonial States Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, which recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.20 or higher during their semester of completion while using a full season of eligibility as determined by the NCAA.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Senior Amy Cross (Upper Dublin) contributed a pair of goals in No. 2 Syracuse’s 15-12 loss to No. 1 Maryland in last Sunday’s NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship game. Sophomore Kelly Cross (Upper Dublin) was credited with one caused turnover and three draw controls.

West Chester senior defender Liz Wilson (Abington) was selected to play in the annual Division II North-South All-Star game. She is the lone participant from the Golden Rams’ squad, and she will be competing for the South team. Wilson appeared in all 17 games for West Chester (12-5), making 16 starts. She scooped up 31 ground balls and was credited with 15 caused turnovers. She also collected eight draw controls. The 2014 IWLCA North-South games will take place at Cabrini College on Saturday, June 7. Game times are Division I – 11:30 a.m., Division II – 12:45 p.m., and Division II – 2 p.m.

Lock Haven senior defender Lindsay Walbrandt (Souderton) was selected to play in the annual Division II North-South All-Star game. She also will be competing for the South squad.

Bloomsburg rising senior Carly Ball (North Penn) will travel with American International Sports Teams (AIST) to play in the Amsterdam Lowlands Tournament in Amsterdam, Paris and Antwerp, Belgium. She will play for AIST June 20-30 alongside athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, junior college and NAIA after each received invitations from the organization. AIST has put together teams to play international competition since 2002.

SOFTBALL
West Chester junior catcher Erin Quense (Neshaminy) was named to the all-tournament team following West Texas A&M’s 3-2 win over Valdosta State in the NCAA Division II National Championship game. Quense was the lone member of the Golden Rams to be honored in post-tournament awards. She was an at-large selection. Quense hit .571 (4-for-7) at the softball championships with one home run and three RBIs. She also scored one run and had a sacrifice fly in leading West Chester to a sixth place finish. Her .571 batting average was second on to Dixie State’s Mattie Snow (.750, 3-for-4).
