BASEBALL
Penn State’s Greg Welsh (Council Rock South) is playing for the Madison Mallards in the Northwoods League this summer. In front of announced crowd of 5,342 on Wednesday against Eau Claire Express, Welsh was nearly flawless in 5.1 innings of work. He scattered five hits, struck out six and allowed only one earned run in the Mallards 4-2 win. During his junior season at Penn State, Welsh finished the year with a string of impressive starts, including a complete game shutout win against Michigan State in the second game of the season’s final series. He was named to the Academic All-Big Ten Team, an honor given to second year letterwinners who carry a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Rider University junior Jerry Mulderig (Council Rock South) was a first team All-MAAC selection. He led Rider in batting (.337, 60 hits in 51 games), on-base percentage (.431), slugging percentage (.433) and walks (29). He was second in stolen bases (16) and third on the team in RBIs (29). An All-New Jersey selection this year, Mulderig pitched in 10 games this year and compiled a 3-2 record. He is expected to be drafted this summer as a pitcher. Mulderig was named MVP of Rider’s team and also earned a spot on the MAAC All-Academic Team.

Gwynedd-Mercy sophomore Ryan Downs (Council Rock South) was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference’s Winter/Spring 2012-13 All-Academic Team. The CSAC All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.20 or higher during the semester of competition, while using a full season of eligibility as determined by the NCAA.

University of Maryland freshman Jake Drossner (Council Rock North) will be competing for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod League.

MEN’S BASKETBALL
Cabrini senior Goran Dulac (Pennsbury) was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference’s Winter/Spring 2012-13 All-Academic Team. The CSAC All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.20 or higher during the semester of competition, while using a full season of eligibility as determined by the NCAA.

Villanova University freshman Ryan Arcidiacono (Neshaminy) is among 24 athletes who have accepted invitations to attend the 2013 USA Basketball Men’s U19 World Championship Team training camp that will be held June 14-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo. The USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team Committee issued the player invitations. Arcidiacono was a unanimous selection to the 2012-13 BIG EAST All-Rookie Team and also was selected second team All-Philadelphia Big Five in his debut campaign at Villanova. The guard started all 34 games the Wildcats played in 2012-13, averaging 11.9 points and 3.5 assists per game in helping the Wildcats reach the 20-win plateau for the eighth time in the past nine seasons. The USA U19 training camp will be used to select the 12-member USA team that will compete in the FIBA U19 World Championship.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Gwynedd-Mercy sophomore Liza Leyes (Upper Dublin) was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference’s Winter/Spring 2012-13 All-Academic Team. The CSAC All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.20 or higher during the semester of competition, while using a full season of eligibility as determined by the NCAA.

Cabrini junior Brittany Sandone (Souderton) was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference’s Winter/Spring 2012-13 All-Academic Team. The CSAC All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.20 or higher during the semester of competition, while using a full season of eligibility as determined by the NCAA.

MEN’S LACROSSE
Muhlenberg senior Doug Rheiner (Council Rock North) received honorable mention on the United State Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division III All-America Team. The senior midfielder was a first team All-Centennial Conference selection after leading the Mules and ranking seventh in the CC with 31 goals, the second highest single season total in program history. He set a school record with eight hat tricks on the season and added 10 assists and 38 ground balls. Rheiner finished his career sixth on Muhlenberg’s all-time list with 69 career goals. He also ranks eighth with 90 points. Rheiner is the third player in program history to receive All-American recognition. He also was named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for the spring 2013 season. To be named to the Academic Honor Roll, a student must be a sophomore or higher in class standing; a starter or key reserve on his or her team and carry at least a 3.40 cumulative GPA. An Accounting and Finance major, Rheiner was named to the Dean’s List for the Spring 2013 semester.
Widener University senior Johnny Casey (Abington) was named to the Middle Atlantic Conference All-Century Team.  He recently wrapped up a solid run in which he was picked second team All-Commonwealth Conference in 2013, first team all-league in 2012, first team All-MAC in 2011 and the 2009 MAC Rookie of the Year. He helped lead Widener to two conference titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances in his time, and he played in the USILA North/South senior All-Star Game this year.

Cabrini freshman Austin Edelman (Upper Merion) was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference’s Winter/Spring 2012-13 All-Academic Team. The CSAC All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.20 or higher during the semester of competition, while using a full season of eligibility as determined by the NCAA.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Gwynedd-Mercy junior Amy Powell (Plymouth Whitemarsh) and sophomore Dani Horn (North Penn) were named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference’s Winter/Spring 2012-13 All-Academic Team. The CSAC All-Academic Team recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.20 or higher during the semester of competition, while using a full season of eligibility as determined by the NCAA.

SOFTBALL
Freshman third baseman Morgan Decker (Central Bucks South) was named the recipient of Lehigh University’s Outstanding Athlete Award. The award is given to the player who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. The freshman had one of the finest offensive seasons in school history at any class level. She became the first student-athlete to be named Patriot League Player and Rookie of the Year in the same season. Decker took home Triple Crown honors by leading the league in batting average (.415) home runs (nine) and runs batted in (46). She also walked a league-high 37 times and was tied for second in doubles with 15 on her way to being named a first team Mid-Atlantic All-Region selection by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
