MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
La Salle’s Francis Ferruzzi (Upper Dublin) finished 15th at the Lehigh University Invitational with a time of 19:29.07 while teammate Chris Berry (Central Bucks West) was 56th (20:42.81) and Chris Trimble (North Penn) was 65th (20:55.47). The Explorers finished second only behind Lehigh in the team standings.

Widener junior Jason Caporale (Neshaminy) was eighth at the Delaware Valley Invitational on Saturday, helping lead the Pride to the team title.

Alexander Kane (Central Bucks East), the 2012 North Eastern Athletic Conference Runner of the Year, led the Penn State Abington men’s team with a 10th place finish at the Misericordia Invitational. The squad finished in fifth place out of six teams. Kane completed the 5k course with a time of 17:14.48, followed by Nicholas Volpe (William Tennent) in 17th overall with a time of 18:22.71.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Temple’s Maria Papacostas (Cheltenham) finished 73rd with a time of 26:24.84, and teammate Megan Schneider (Hatboro-Horsham) was 99th with a time of 27:29.35 at Saturday’s Lehigh Invitational. The Lady Owls finished eighth out of 13 teams.

East Carolina freshman Caitlyn Sheva (Pennridge) turned in a time of 19:17.31 in the Covered Bridge Invitational on Friday in Boone, N.C., finishing 17th in the field. East Carolina was third in the team standings, finishing behind first place Florida State and second place Appalachian State.

Penn State Abington captain Megan O’Farrell (Pennsbury) finished 32nd overall with a time of 20:41.68 at the Misericordia Invitational on Saturday. The Nittany Lions were fourth out of seven teams.

Alexis Areias (William Tennent) was one of 12 La Salle runners that cracked the top 50 in Saturday’s Lehigh Invitational, finishing 18th with a time of 23:47.52. The Explorers finished second as a team behind only host Lehigh.

In her debut in an Elizabethtown uniform, Liz Wedekind (Pennsbury) was the fifth runner to finish for the women’s team in a dual meet against Gettysburg on Saturday, finishing with a time of 11:47.5 to place 11th overall.

FIELD HOCKEY
Senior captain Jennalise Taylor (Pennsbury) scored her first goal of the season in Sunday’s 6-4 win over La Salle. In Friday’s 5-1 loss to No. 5 Syracuse, Taylor drew a corner that set off Quinnipiac’s only goal.

Olivia Shoemaker (Souderton) contributed an assist in La Salle’s 6-4 loss to Quinnipiac on Sunday.

Taylor Pritchett (William Tennent) set up the game winning goal in overtime in Delaware Valley’s 3-2 win over St. Mary’s College in the season opener for both teams on Friday, delivering an assist on the game winner 4:51 into overtime.

Junior back Maddy Harding (Central Bucks South) contributed an assist in Villanova’s 2-1 loss to Sacred Heart on Saturday. This was Harding’s first game back after missing the 2012 season with an injury.

MEN’S SOCCER
Freshman midfielder Ryan Molyneaux (Souderton) contributed an assist in Ursinus College’s 2-1 loss to Misericordia on Friday.

Senior Jidell Roach (Abington) buried a penalty kick in La Salle’s 2-2 tie against Lafayette on Friday.

Junior Troy Czapor (Council Rock South) buried a shot from 15 yards in Widener’s 3-0 win over Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday. It was his seventh career goal.

Freshman Julian Antal (Council Rock South) contributed an assist in Penn State Abington’s 3-2 overtime win over Gwynedd-Mercy on Friday. In Sunday’s 2-1 win over Hampden-Sydney, senior Marco Paparo (Abington) contributed an assist.

Jonathan Nazon (North Penn) scored a goal in Eastern University’s 8-0 win over Penn State-Brandywine on Friday.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Freshman midfielder Jeannie Jaaskinski (Pennridge) scored her first collegiate goal while freshman forward Erin Farrell (Neshaminy) took six shots in Ursinus College’s 3-1 win over Albright on Friday. 

Junior Molly Phillips (Pennsbury) connected on a penalty kick to knot the score 1-1 in Gettysburg’s 2-1 win over Grove City on day one of the Gettysburg Cup on Friday.

Alyssa Kirk (Neshaminy) scored the only goal of the game in Temple’s 1-0 win over Mount St. Mary’s on Thursday, finding the net with less than three minutes left in the first half. In last Sunday’s 4-0 win over Delaware State, Kirk scored a goal while teammate Paula Jurewicz (Council Rock South) contributed an assist.

Alicia Roberts (Upper Moreland) scored 53 seconds into the first overtime to lead Wilkes University’s 2-1 win over Muhlenburg in the final game of the Colonial Classic on Saturday.

First-year player Mallory Mugnier (Abington) netted the first goal of the 2013 season in Penn State Abington’s 2-0 win over Immaculata University on Friday. Freshman forward Jacqueline Alexander (Council Rock North) scored the game’s second goal.

Rookie Caitlin Duddy (Souderton) netted her first collegiate goal in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 1-1 tie with Wesley on Saturday.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

The University of Arizona’s Megan Lafferty (Upper Dublin) was one of 14 CSCAA athletes who qualified as All-Americans for the 2012-13 season in Division One. Those who finished first through eighth at the NCAA Championships are First Team All-Americans, and those who finished ninth through 16th are Honorable Mention All-Americans.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Rachel Fein (Wissahickon)
earned an 8-3 win at first singles in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 5-4 win over Misericordia on Saturday at the Moravian College Tournament. Jenna Caffarello (North Penn) was an 8-5 winner at sixth singles. Kristen Kriebel (Pennridge) and Taylor Michener (Central Bucks South) notched an 8-1 win at second singles. Caffarello was part of Gwynedd’s third doubles team that earned an 8-2 win. In Gwynedd-Mercy’s 7-2 win over Rutgers-Camden in the second round, Fein rolled to an 8-0 win at first singles while Michener earned an 8-3 win at second singles. Kriebel had an 8-2 win at fourth singles, and Caffarello earned an 8-1 win at sixth singles. Fein and Muller notched an 8-1 win at first doubles. In Gwynedd’s 8-1 win over Cedar Crest on Friday, Fein rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at first singles, Michener earned an 0-6, 6-2, 10-4 win at second singles, Kriebel was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at fourth singles, and Caffarello earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at sixth singles. Fein was part of the first doubles team that won 8-0. Michener and Kriebel teamed up to earn an 8-1 win at second doubles, and Caffarello was part of the third doubles team that earned an 8-0 win.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Freshman Casey Griffith (Upper Merion) had a team high 13 digs in UMBC’s 3-1 loss to Ole Miss on Friday.

Captain Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had nine kills in the University of Connecticut’s 3-2 loss to Southern Illinois on Friday in the opening match of the IPFW Invitational. In Saturday’s 3-0 sweep of Duquesne, Maugle had a double-double double, finishing with game highs in kills (12) and digs (12). In UConn’s 3-1 loss to IPFW in Saturday’s championship game, Maugle had five kills, nine digs and three assists.

Senior Sarah Godfrey (William Tennent) tallied 10 kills in Lebanon Valley’s 3-2 loss to Nazareth College in the opening round of the Cortland Red Dragon Classic on Friday. In Lebanon Valley’s 3-0 win over Fredonia State University on Saturday in a second round match, Godfrey notched three assist blocks.

Sophomore setter Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) recorded assists on 30 of her team’s 34 kills in Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Albright on Saturday at the DeSales University Invitational. In Cabrini’s 3-0 win over DeSales later in the day, Koenig had 34 assists, and junior Dana Wisniewski (Plymouth Whitemarsh) recorded three total blocks. In Friday’s wins over Muhlenburg (3-0) and Ithaca College (3-1), Koenig recorded 73 assists. Cabrini’s 4-0 record is the program’s best start since the 2003 campaign.

Junior Kate Schalck (William Tennent) contributed 10 kills, two aces and a dig in Penn State Abington’s 3-2 loss to Immaculata on Saturday. In Friday’s 3-1 loss to Arcadia, Schalck had a team high 12 kills.

Senior middle hitter Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) tallied six kills in both Eastern University’s 3-0 win over Widener and Eastern’s 3-0 sweep of Catholic on Saturday. She also had two solo blocks and three block assists.
