WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Jess Joseph (Souderton) placed 18th with a time of 24:29.35 in West Chester’s second place finish at the Lock Haven Invitational.
Freshman Brittany Hafer (Central Bucks) finished among the top 50 runners with a time of 26:20 in Chestnut Hill College’s sixth place finish at the Wilmington University Invitational on Saturday.
FIELD HOCKEY
Julia Rush (Quakertown) contributed an assist in Bloomsburg’s 6-0 win over Slippery Rock on Sunday. The win upped the Huskies record to 6-1. Senior Breanne Tobin (Pennridge) contributed an assist in the Huskies’ 8-1 win over Seton Hall on Saturday. Tobin scored two goals in Bloomsburg’s 6-1 win over C.W. Post on Wednesday. Rush contributed a goal off a penalty corner – her first goal of the season, and Caitlyn Koczynski (Neshaminy) started in goal for the Huskies and registered four saves.
Julie Rosenkaimer (North Penn) scored the game winner late in the second half of Kutztown’s 2-1 win over Bloomsburg on Monday. The win ended a 39-game winless drought for KU against Bloomsburg, a losing streak dating back to 1983 that was older than all the players on the field. Rosenkaimer’s goal was her third of the season and her second game winner. Tobin contributed Bloomsburg’s lone goal. It was the Huskies first loss of the season. Koczynski had two saves for the Huskies in goal.
Freshman Rebecca Chylack (Souderton) and senior Haley Froshour (Council Rock North) both scored goals in LaSalle University’s 4-0 win over Siena on Sunday. The Explorers have won three of their last four games.  On Friday afternoon, Froshour scored the game-winning goal in the 78th minute to give LaSalle a 4-3 victory over Longwood. Froshour, an all-Atlantic 10 selection as a junior defender last fall, picked an opportune time to score her first collegiate goal, which gave the Explorers their first overtime win of the season.  Chylack also scored a goal off a corner in the win. Chylack contributed an assist in LaSalle’s 2-1 loss to Towson on Wednesday.
Junior Brittany Kocis (Central Bucks East) contributed an assist in East Stroudsburg’s 5-1 win over Limestone (N.C.) on Sunday. The Warriors improved to 6-1.
Jen Hutchinson (Neshaminy) contributed a goal in West Chester’s 3-0 win over Mansfield on Sunday. With the win, the 13th ranked Gold Rams improved to 4-1 on the season. Shescored her first career goal earlier in the week in West Chester’s 3-0 win over Millersville on Tuesday.
FOOTBALL
Sophomore Andrew Flogel (Neshaminy) forced a fumble on the opening kickoff of the third quarter in Bloomsburg University’s 10-7 win over Ashland on Aug. 27. Bloomsburg is 3-0 on the season.
Redshirt junior outside linebacker Matt Freed (Souderton) had 10 tackles and recorded a sack for the third straight game in East Stroudsburg’s 45-31 win over Clarion on Saturday. ESU improved to 3-0.
MEN’S SOCCER
Tom Natter (Abington) scored Bloomsburg’s only goal as the Huskies were forced to settle for a 1-1 tie after double overtime in Saturday’s game against Shippensburg. John Owens (Central Bucks East), Tim Pfender (Neshaminy) and Alex Ruhfass (Council Rock North) also saw action for the Huskies. Alex Supplee (North Penn) and Andrew Foran (Council Rock) saw playing time for Shippensburg. On Wednesday, Pfender delivered a key defensive stop to allow Bloomsburg to escape with a 1-1 tie with St. Thomas Aquinas.
Chestnut Hill junior defenseman Maurice Blanton (Harry S. Truman) converted two penalty kicks to knot the score 2-2, and the Griffins were forced to settle for the tie in Saturday’s contest against Bloomfield College. Blanton contributed a goal – also on a penalty kick - in Chestnut Hill’s 2-1 win over New York IT on Wednesday.
Junior Brian James (Pennridge) took eight shots in Widener’s 0-0 tie with Philadelphia Biblical on Wednesday.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Eva Gimello (Neshaminy) assisted on the game-winning goal in The College of New Jersey’s 5-0 win over Hartwick College on Sunday, giving TCNJ the Oneonta Mayor’s Cup. The win upped TCNJ’s record to 5-0 on the season. They have outscored their opposition 22-2.
East Stroudsburg’s Devon Miniscalco (Council Rock South) was named the PSAC East Player of the Week after scoring four goals as the Warriors improved to 5-1 on the season.  The sophomore midfielder scored in all three games for the Warriors during the week to give her five goals, tied for the team lead. She had a goal and an assist in ESU’s 5-2 win over Millersville and scored a key goal in the 52nd minute of the Warriors’ 3-1 win at Mansfield after the Mounties had cut the lead to 2-1. She scored two goals in a four-minute stretch late in the second half, including the game winner, as the Warriors won their fourth straight game with a 5-1 victory vs. Charleston (W.Va.). The game was tied 1-1 until Miniscalco scored in the 72nd minute, then struck again in the 76th minute to put the game away. Miniscalco started all 22 games at back as a freshman as the Warriors played in the PSAC semifinals for the second straight year and earned the first NCAA playoff win in school history. Freshman Ashley McKenna (Central Bucks South) is also seeing playing time for the Warriors.
Gayle Kuntzmann (Hatboro-Horsham) scored the game’s only goal in Shippensburg’s 1-0 win over Bloomsburg on Saturday. Kelly Modes (Neshaminy) and Samantha Fox (William Tennent) saw action for Bloomsburg.
Freshman goalkeeper Gabrielle Pakhtigian (North Penn) allowed her first goals of the season in LaSalle University’s 5-2 loss at Penn last Sunday.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Ali Horvath (Souderton) was part of the Shippensburg University women’s tennis team that has been recognized a 2008-09 All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association while six Lady Raider athletes received awards honoring them for achievement in the classroom. The tennis team compiled a 3.64 team GPA through the spring of 2009 – the highest grade point average of any team on campus. Horvath received PSAC Scholar Athlete designation for compiling a GPA of 3.25 or higher.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Junior Alyson Stark (Council Rock South) had 13 kills, 15 digs and set a career high with eight aces in East Stroudsburg’s 3-1 win over Saint Rose in its home tournament on Saturday. In the Warriors’ 3-1 win over Holy Family, Stark had six kills. On Friday night, Stark had a season-high 17 kills and a .238 attack percentage in ESU’s 3-1 loss to Adelphi. The Warriors finished the tournament with a 3-1 record. Stark, who had 39 kills in the two-day event, surpassed the 600-kill plateau for her career. She also had 34 digs, 11 aces and seven blocks.
Sophomore Katherine Tohanczyn (North Penn) had six assists and two kills in Chestnut Hill’s 3-0 loss to West Chester in the opening day of the West Chester Tournament. Earlier in the week, she contributed two kills, two assists, three aces, six digs and three blocks, but Chestnut Hill fell to Holy Family 3-0 on Wednesday. Tohanczyn received honorable mention among the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) weekly award winners. In the Griffins’ two wins over Rosemont College and Gwynedd-Mercy, Tohanczyn had six kills, 23 assists, seven aces, 10 digs and a block.
