MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Nick Crits (Wissahickon) crossed the finish line in 25:54.68 for 22nd place as LaSalle captured the meet title at the Br. John ‘Paddy’ Doyle/Iona College Meet of Champions at New York’s Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday.
Sean Stetler (Central Bucks South) finished 28th with a time of 12:45 to help Shippensburg to a second place finish in the 4K Dickinson Short Invitational on Saturday. In Saturday’s 8k, teammates Eric Haidinger (Council Rock North) and Brian Quintrell (North Penn) turned in times of 28:36 and 29:55 to finish 75th and 114th respectively.
Redshirt freshman Seth Hibbs (Hatboro-Horsham) was Millersville’s top finisher in the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational, placing 44th in the 4K race with a time of 13:08.
Widener sophomore Ryan Gallagher (Neshaminy) was 41st with a time of 13:01 at the Dickinson Long-Short Invitational on Saturday.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Anne Areias (William Tennent) finished 20th with a time of 22:42.34 as LaSalle finished third in Saturday’s Br. John ‘Paddy’ Doyle/Iona College Meet of Champions at New York’s Van Cortlandt Park.
Megan Rhyner (Quakertown) finished 26th with a time of 24:35 to help lead Shippensburg to a second place finish in the 6K Dickinson Short Invitational on Saturday morning.
Bloomsburg freshman Martina Drew (Neshaminy) finished 16th with a time of 20:57 to help lead the Huskies to a second place finish at the Flatland Invitational at Mansfield University on Saturday.
FIELD HOCKEY
Senior Katie O’Donnell (Wissahickon) broke the ACC’s career points record in Maryland’s 4-2 win over 11th ranked Boston College on Saturday. Heading into the game, O’Donnell was tied with former Virginia player Meredith Thorpe with 230 career points. Just under 20 minutes into the game, O’Donnell assisted on the Terps’ second goal of the day to pass Thorpe in the ACC’s record books. Late last season, O’Donnell also claimed the league’s assist record. On Sunday, O’Donnell contributed a goal and an assist in Maryland’s 3-0 win over No. 20 Massachusetts. The Terps are 7-0 and ranked No. 2 in the latest Kookaburra/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll.
Freshman Lauren Purvis (Hatboro-Horsham) scored her third goal of the season in Penn State’s 3-1 win over West Chester on Sunday afternoon. In Saturday’s 4-0 win over Temple, Purvis scored a goal with an assist from junior Jessica Longstreth (Council Rock North). On Wednesday, Longstreth scored a goal on the rebound of a penalty corner shot in Penn State’s 3-0 win over Lafayette. She also contributed an assist. Penn State (5-2) is ranked 15th in the latest coaches poll.
Sophomore Caitlin Vasey (Central Bucks East) contributed a career-high eight-point game – which included her second career hat trick - in Lebanon Valley’s 9-0 rout of Stevenson on Saturday.  On Thursday, Vasey contributed an assist in Lebanon Valley’s 8-0 win over DeSales. On Wednesday, Vasey had a pair of goals in Lebanon Valley’s 5-0 rout of Dickinson. Lebanon Valley, ranked fifth, improved to 6-0.
Senior Megan Purcell (Pennridge) recorded seven saves in goal in Widener’s 3-1 win over DeSales on Saturday. Purcell and her teammates on defense have held Widener opponents to one goal or less in three of its four games.
Senior Brittany Kocis (Central Bucks East) scored a second-half goal in East Stroudsburg’s 9-4 rout of Mansfield on Wednesday.
Brieanna Wolfe (Pennridge) has a goal and an assist for a Bloomsburg team that is ranked No. 1 in the Kookaburra/NFHCA Division II National Coaches Poll.
Sophomore goalie Jenna Phillips (Hatboro-Horsham) recorded her second shutout of the season in Drexel’s 4-0 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday.
FOOTBALL
Kevin Morton (Abington) tied a career high by throwing four touchdown passes in Kutztown’s 38-13 win over Lock Haven in a PSAC football crossover contest on Saturday night. Morton was 14-for-26 for 197 yards. He also threw four touchdown passes last year against Millersville. Morton has thrown at least one touchdown in eight straight games. During that span, he has thrown at least two TDs in six of Kutztown’s last seven games. Going back to last year’s regular season finale against Indiana, the Golden Bears have scored 146 points and have scored 30 or more points in four straight games. Kutztown (3-0) is off to its best start since 2001. Josh Mastromatto (Upper Dublin) hauled in one of Morton’s passes for a 27-yard touchdown.  Mastromatto scored three times in Kutztown’s win over Saint Anselm in the season opener.
Last Saturday, Morton threw for a career high 364 yards in Kutztown’s 35-14 win over Mercyhurst, which included a near-perfect 12-of-13 for 142 yards in the first half. Morton’s previous career best was in the 2009 finale against Indiana, Pa. when he threw for 356 yards. Defensively, Jason Ulmer (Neshaminy) led the Golden Bears with 10 tackles.
Freshman defensive end Jake Metz (Souderton) blocked a field goal at the end of the first half in Shippensburg’s 28-24 comeback win at Clarion on Saturday night.
East Stroudsburg redshirt senior outside linebacker Matt Freed (Souderton) had 10 tackles in No. 4 California’s 45-20 win over the Warriors on Saturday. It was his 18th career game in double figures in 26 starts. The two-time All-American is the fifth player in school history to go over the 300-tackle mark for his career.
Bloomsburg senior D.Solomon Oliver (Cheltenham) picked up his first career interception in the Huskies’ 47-20 win over IUP on Saturday.
Senior Jon Natter (Abington) had seven tackles in Widener’s 31-7 loss to Ithaca on Saturday.
MEN’S SOCCER
Senior Tim Pfender (Neshaminy) connected on a penalty shot to lift Bloomsburg to a 1-0 win over No. 9 Slippery Rock on Sunday. On Saturday night, freshman Anthony Manero (Council Rock North) scored after a corner kick in Bloomsburg’s 2-2 tie with Lock Haven.
Sophomore Andrew Foran (Council Rock North) made his fourth start of the season in goal, collecting eight saves in Shippensburg’s 3-1 loss to Mercyhurst on Wednesday.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Jamie Vaniver (Council Rock South) scored a first-half goal in Bloomsburg’s 2-1 win over Slippery Rock on Friday.
Sophomore Gabby Pakhtigian (North Penn) was credited with three saves in the second half, including two in the final four minutes, of LaSalle’s 2-1 overtime victory over Delaware on Friday in the nightcap of the Blue Hen Classic.
Junior Samantha Farlow (Bensalem) set up a pair of goals in Temple’s 2-0 win over Vermont on Friday afternoon.
Junior midfielder Devon Miniscalco (Council Rock South) scored the go-ahead goal with 30 minutes left in East Stroudsburg’s 3-1 win over Lock haven on Friday.
MEN’S TENNIS
Lee Wexler (Plymouth Whitemarsh) was part of Bloomsburg’s second doubles team that notched a 9-7 win in the Huskies’ 8-1 win over Scranton on Wednesday.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Kristen Doherty (William Tennent) was part of Chestnut Hill’s third doubles team that earned an 8-0 win in Chestnut Hill’s 5-4 loss to Stonehill College on Friday.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Senior outside hitter Alyson Stark (Council Rock South) led East Stroudsburg with 24 kills on the day at Saturday’s PSAC Crossover – nine against Slippery Rock in the day’s first match and 15 against Clarion in the final match of the weekend. She also had 22 kills in two matches on Friday and has led ESU in kills in each of its first 13 matches this season. Stark also had a season-high four blocks vs. Slippery Rock.
Stark received the Championship Award Guys Athlete of the Week after earning a spot on the All-Tournament team at last weekend’s Northeast-Mid-Atlantic Volleyball Invitational. Stark averaged 3.8 kills, 1.9 digs and 0.5 blocks per set and had a .328 hitting percentage as the Warriors went 2-2 at the tournament. She had at least 10 kills and hit above .300 in all four matches, including 18 kills against American International, and tied her career-high with 17 digs vs. UMass-Lowell. Stark is a two-time All-PSAC East selection and broke into ESU’s career top 10 in kills the preceding weekend.
