MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
LaSalle sophomore Tyler Jones (Central Bucks West) finished fourth in the Boston University Invitational at Franklin Park on Sunday morning. Jones’ time of 25:12 led the Explorers, who are ranked seventh in the preseason NCAA Mid-Atlantic regional poll. LaSalle, which had six of the top 12 runners, swept Marist, Brown, Northeastern and host Boston University in the team scoring.
Shippensburg junior Sean Stetler (Central Bucks South) finished seventh in Saturday’s 10K race at the Mountaineer Flatland Invitational. Shippensburg placed all five of its scoring runners among the top seven finishers to run away with the victory.
Sophomore Owen Ward (Harry S. Truman) led Chestnut Hill at the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational. Ward finished 73rd overall (28:56.7) in the men’s eight kilometer race (8K), pacing the Griffins to finish 20th out of 24 teams (248 points).
FIELD HOCKEY
Junior Katie O’Donnell (Wissahickon) scored a pair of goals in Maryland’s 6-2 win over Boston College in Saturday’s ACC opener. Last year, for the second straight year, the former Trojan star was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year and a first team Longstreth/NFHCA Division One all-American. Maryland, which improved to 8-0, is ranked first in the nation.
Christine Dudek (Souderton), Casey McCartin (Hatboro-Horsham) and Jessica Longstreth (Council Rock North) each scored a single goal in Penn State’s 5-0 win over West Chester on Sunday. Dudek’s shot came on a rebound of a shot by Jenny Purvis (Hatboro-Horsham).
LaSalle freshman Becca Chylack (Souderton) was named the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Rookie of the Week, helping the Explorers to a 2-1 week. Chylack scored a pair of goals on penalty corners and assisted on two others. She is fifth in the A-10 in points (eight) and goals (three). She is the first LaSalle rookie to receive Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week honors since teammate Beth Carey won three straight to begin the 2007 season.
Junior forward Brittany Kocis (Central Bucks East) scored in a scramble in front of goal in East Stroudsburg’s 3-2 win over IUP on Sunday afternoon. The Warriors are 3-0. On Saturday, Kocis connected for her third goal of the season in the second half of East Stroudsburg’s 5-1 win over Mercyhurst. Earlier in the week Kocis scored a goal on a penalty corner in ESU’s 6-5 win over Mansfield.
Julia Rush (Quakertown) scored on a penalty stroke to give Bloomsburg a 1-0 lead on its way to a 3-1 win over IUP on Saturday.
Megan Purcell (Pennridge) made six saves in Widener’s 4-3 win over DeSales on Saturday. Earlier in the week, she had five saves in Widener’s 1-0 loss to Eastern.
In her 59th career game, senior defender Lauren Hollingsworth (Council Rock South) scored her first career goal two minutes into Shippensburg’s 3-2 win over C.W. Post on Thursday.
FOOTBALL
East Stroudsburg junior Matt Freed (Souderton) had 10 tackles and a sack in the Warriors 45-31 win over Clarion.
D’Andre Webb (Harry S. Truman) shredded Millersville’s defense with 114 yards and two touchdowns on just four carries before halftime in West Chester’s 63-10 rout. He scored on runs of two yards and 62 yards. He finished the day with 126 yards rushing on seven carries. It was Webb who ran for a school-record 306 yards in last year’s 41-10 win over Millersville. Steve Miller (Pennsbury) had a 43-yard pass reception in the first quarter, finishing the day with three catches for 101 yards and a touchdown.  Jackson Fagan (Pennsbury), who had 22 yards on the ground, contributed an 11-yard touchdown run.
Dylan Manni (Bensalem) hauled in a two-yard touchdown pass in the first half of Bloomsburg’s 31-12 win over Kutztown. The Huskies improved to 4-0. Kutztown quarterback Kevin Morton (Abington) threw an 11-yard touchdown pass late in the game. Morton finished the day 15-for-22 for 162 yards. David Cressman (Pennridge) had three tackles for Kutztown.
MEN’S SOCCER
Ryan Richter (William Tennent) scored a goal in LaSalle University’s 3-2 loss to Adelphi University on Sunday. The Explorers fell to 2-3-1 on the season.
Junior Maurice Blanton (Harry S. Truman) helped lead the defense in Chestnut Hill’s 3-0 loss to Caldwell College on Saturday. Blanton received honorable mention recognition in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) weekly awards.
Freshman Andrew Foran (Council Rock) and teammate Clay Sale combined for four saves in Shippensburg’s 2-0 loss to East Stroudsburg last Tuesday.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Senior forward Gayle Kuntzman (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a second-half goal, allowing Shippensburg to escape with a 1-1 tie in Tuesday’s game against East Stroudsburg.  ESU striker Devin Miniscalco (Council Rock South) scored in the first half of a contest that saw the Warriors take 30 shots. It was Miniscalco’s team-leading sixth goal of the season.
Samantha Fox (William Tennent) scored the only goal in the game for Bloomsburg in the Huskies’ 2-1 loss to Kutztown on Saturday.
MEN’S TENNIS
Lee Wexler (Plymouth Whitemarsh) earned 5-7, 6-2, 11-9 win at third singles in Bloomsburg’s 7-2 win over Mercyhurst College on Saturday. On Wednesday, Wexler notched a 6-0, 6-4 win in third singles and also was part of the second doubles team that earned an 8-2 win in Bloomsburg’s 9-0 win over Chestnut Hill. Chestnut Hill’s Carson Richter (Plymouth Whitemarsh) fell in first singles (0-6, 2-6).
Sophomore Dan Lee (Abington) won both of his matches for The College of New Jersey in the Lions’ Tournament, a two-day tournament hosted by TCNJ.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Katie Hasyn (North Penn) was part of a second doubles team that notched an 8-4 win in Bloomsburg’s 6-3 win over Mercyhurst College on Saturday. On Wednesday, Hasyn defeated Erin Anderson in first singles 6-1, 6-1 in Bloomsburg’s 9-0 win over Chestnut Hill. Chestnut Hill’s doubles teams of Sarah Doherty (William Tennent) and Regina Doherty (William Tennent) fell 8-1.
Ali Horvath (Souderton) was part of the third doubles team that notched a 9-7 win in Shippensburg’s 7-2 loss to Millersville on Saturday. Horvath fell in second singles 6-1, 6-0.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Nicole Corrado (Souderton) had six kills and two blocks while teammate Katherine Tohanczyn (North Penn) had two, kills, two aces, two blocks and 31 assists in Chestnut Hill’s 3-2 win over the College of Notre Dame in Saturday’s tri-match in Baltimore. Chestnut Hill also defeated St. Joseph’s – Brooklyn 3-0. In that match, Corrado had six kills while Tohanczyn had one block. On Thursday, Corrado  had 11 kills and six digs while Tohanczyn had eight kills and eight digs in Chestnut Hill’s 3-2 loss to Goldey-Beacom College.
