MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington sophomore Alex Kane (Central Bucks East), the reigning NEAC Runner of the Year, was named the NEAC Runner of the Week for the week ending Sept. 15. He also was named the Corvias-ECAC Division III Upstate Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.  Kane took first place at the Cumberland County College Dukes Invitational with a course record time of 17:27.18. Kane finished the five-kilometer course a full 29 seconds ahead of the second place finisher to claim the record. The Nittany Lions placed second as a team out of four teams.
Kane clinched the individual top spot at the second annual Penn State Abington Invitational on Saturday, finishing the 8K course in 29.26. Kane, who led from wire to wire, averaged a pace of 5:56 per mile and finished two minutes and 11 seconds ahead of the second place runner. Teammate Nicholas Volpe (William Tennent) finished in fourth place with a time of 32:13. The men’s team finished in third place.

Gwynedd Mercy freshman Matt French (Bensalem) placed 36th overall in the 34th Annual Philly Metro Championships at Philadelphia’s Belmont Plateau on Saturday. The men’s team finished fourth out of 11 scoring teams.

La Salle freshman Francis Ferruzzi (Upper Dublin) was recognized as the Atlantic Rookie of the Week for his performance at the Friends Big 5 Invitational. Feruzzi continues to impress as a true freshman, finishing 12th with a time of 19:06.02. He was the fifth Explorer to cross the finish line. Two weeks earlier, Feruzzi placed 15th at the Lehigh Invitational with a time of 19:29.07 in his collegiate debut.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Penn State Abington senior Megan O’Farrell (Pennsbury) crossed the finish line in 15th place with a time of 26:07 at the second annual Penn State Abington Invitational Saturday, improving her time by 24 seconds on the course from last year’s NEAC Conference Championship. The women’s team’s finished third overall.

Gwynedd Mercy freshman Hannah Geiger (Council Rock South) finished 17th overall at the 34th Annual Philly Metro Championships at Philadelphia’s Belmont Plateau on Saturday. Gwynedd Mercy finished third out of nine scoring teams.

Kutztown junior Carolyn Fergus (North Penn) finished 29th with a time of 23:06.5 at the LHU River Run hosted by Lock Haven University on Saturday. Junior Elizabeth McLaughlin (Upper Dublin) posted a time of 23:58.2. The Golden Bears finished fifth as a team.

FIELD HOCKEY
Freshman Marissa Glatt (Central Bucks East) scored for a fifth straight game in Lehigh’s 4-1 loss to Bucknell on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 4-2 loss to Monmouth, Glatt scored a goal. For scoring a goal in each of Lehigh’s games last weekend, Glatt received honorable mention recognition when the weekly Patriot League awards were announced for the week ending Sept. 15.

Sophomore Kayla Kenney (Central Bucks South) had a hand in her team’s only goal in Villanova University’s 4-1 loss to No. 14 Temple on Friday when teammate Courtney Devine deposited the rebound of Kenney’s shot into the cage to break up the Owls’ shutout bid.

Taylor Prichett (William Tennent) scored on a backhand shot for her team-leading 10th tally of the year in Delaware Valley’s 3-1 loss to Juniata on Saturday. It was the first home loss of the season for the Aggies, who are 4-1 at home. In Thursday’s 3-0 win over Albright, Prichett had her second straight multi-goal game and fourth of the season, connecting for a pair of goals. In Tuesday’s 3-2 win over Cabrini, Pritchett scored two goals.

Senior captain Jennalise Taylor (Pennsbury) had a goal and an assist in Quinnipiac’s 4-0 win over Vermont on Saturday. Sophomore midfielder Meghan McCullough (Plymouth Whitemarsh) also scored, connecting for her first goal of the season. In Tuesday’s 3-1 win over UMass Lowell, Taylor had a pair of assists. “Jennalise had an incredible showing in the midfield today,” coach Becca Main said after the game.

Junior goalie Amanda Krause (Council Rock North) recorded her second straight shutout in The College of New Jersey’s 3-0 win over Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday. She had four saves. In Tuesday’s 3-0 win at Richard Stockton, Krause stopped all six shots she faced.

Alayna Brown (Souderton) scored twice and picked up an assist in her first start of the year in West Chester’s 8-1 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday.

Senior Olivia Shoemaker (Souderton) contributed an assist in La Salle’s 2-1 win over Liberty on Sunday afternoon. In Friday’s 2-1 loss to Pacific, Shoemaker scored her team’s only goal. In last Sunday’s 5-3 loss to Fairfield, Shoemaker had a pair of goals.

Freshman Dana Adamson (Central Bucks South) was credited with a defensive save in Widener’s 3-1 loss to Cabrini on Friday.

Samantha Facciolla (Council Rock South), a second team all-conference recipient last year, scored her first collegiate goal in Bloomsburg’s 4-1 win over Mansfield on Saturday.

FOOTBALL
Junior wide receiver Sheldon Mayer (Norristown) had a 12-yard touchdown reception in Shippensburg’s 41-31 win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday. He also racked up 77 punt return yards, giving him 179 in just three games. Senior defensive end Jake Metz (Souderton) led the defense with 10 tackles, including 2.5 sacks and two pass breakups. Junior linebacker James Brennan (Upper Merion) tied his career high with nine tackles and a forced fumble.
Junior running back Jesse Knepp (Pennridge) scored from two yards out to give Randolph-Macon a 20-7 lead in Saturday’s 36-28 win over Bethany. He finished with 15 yards rushing on five carries. Teammate Cody Reimel (Pennridge) had five solo tackles and broke up a pair of passes.

Rasheed Johnson (Norristown) set a career high in tackles with 13 in No. 20 West Chester’s 48-3 win over Millersville on Saturday night. Punter Evan Stahl (Central Bucks South) had a career day, averaging 46.2 yards per kick with a career-long of 69, three better than 50 yards and three inside the 20.

Senior safety Alex DiNolfi (Norristown) tallied 13 tackles to tie his career high set in 2011 in Kutztown’s 31-12 loss to 13th-ranked Bloomsburg on Saturday.

Redshirt junior defensive end Brandon Gatteli (Bensalem) had a sack and forced fumble in East Stroudsburg’s 41-31 loss to Shippensburg on Saturday.

Junior wide receiver Josh Williams (Central Bucks South) had two receptions for 52 yards in Ursinus College’s 20-3 home win over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday. Sophomore Eric Boyer (Upper Dublin) had two extra points while Kevin James (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed three tackles and a sack.

Linebacker Dave Damirgian (Council Rock South) had six tackles and a sack in Monmouth’s 21-14 win over Holy Cross on Saturday.

Lycoming College junior Craig Needhammer (North Penn) earned a slot on the Middle Atlantic Conference’s Weekly Honor Roll for the week ending Sept. 22. The junior running back rushed for a career high 182 yards and three touchdowns to lead Lycoming to a 52-14 win against Misericordia on Saturday. Needhammer rushed just 16 times, averaging 11.4 yards per carry while only playing in the first half. He scored on touchdown runs of 21, 23 and 36 yards, giving him four on the season and 19 in his career, which is tied for eighth in school history. Needhammer also outrushed the nation’s leading rusher in the game as the Warrior defense held Jeff Puckett to 43 yards. It was the second week in a row that Needhammer set a career high for yardage as he posted 130 yards against Wilkes. He is the first Warrior to rush for more than 100 yards in back-to-back weeks since Josh Kleinfelter did it in five straight weeks in 2010. With 398 yards through the first three games, Needhammer leads the MAC with an average of 7.2 yards per carry.“He’s really good,” Lycoming coach Mike Clark said. “For the first two years, he was really productive as a back-up, and now he is the primary guy. I think we’re starting to see his potential. He needs to touch the ball 20 times a game for us to be good.”

MEN’S GOLF
Temple senior Matthew Crescenzo (Cheltenham) led Temple to an eighth place showing at the Adams Cup held at the Newport National Golf Club in Newport, R.I. Crescenzo finished with a six-over 222 to tie for 11th place overall in the 54-hole tournament that concluded Tuesday. He shot a two-under 142 over the first 36 holes of the competition. Junior Matt Teesdale (Hatboro-Horsham) tied for 51st with a 237.  Temple finished eighth out of 16 teams.

Millersville’s Kevin Davis (Hatboro-Horsham) posted rounds of 81, 80 and 83 at the Glad Springs Intercollegiate Championship. The Marauders finished second as a team.

West Chester’s Eric Slawter (Upper Merion) shot a 245 at the Glade Springs Intercollegiate Championships. West Chester placed third as a team.

WOMEN'S GOLF
Middlebury College junior Jordan Glatt (Central Bucks East) shot a total of 162 to tie for 13th place out of 86 golfers at the Mount Holyoke Invitational Golf Tournament held The Orchards Golf Course in South Hadley, Mass. The Middlebury team placed third out of 14 teams in the tournament, which took place on Sept. 21 and 22.

MEN’S SOCCER
Senior Marco Paparo (Abington) contributed an assist in Penn State Abington’s 8-1 rout of Penn State Berks on Saturday.

Fran Miller (Central Bucks East) scored a goal and helped set up another in Bloomsburg’s 2-1 win over Chestnut Hill on Wednesday night. Anthony Manero (Council Rock South) was credited with an assist on the game’s first goal.

Midfielder Nate Roberts (Upper Moreland) scored his first collegiate goal in Eastern University’s 8-0 win over Berkeley College (N.J.) on Wednesday.

Freshman forward Ryan Molyneaux (Souderton) scored the game’s only goal in Ursinus College’s 1-0 upset of ninth-ranked Dickinson on Saturday.

Junior Ryan Roedel (Neshaminy) registered a career high five points on two goals and an assist in Gwynedd Mercy’s 4-1 win over Bryn Athyn on Thursday. In Tuesday’s 8-1 win over Penn State Berks, Roedel had a personal best two assists.

Freshman Dan Caya (Pennridge) netted his first goal in a La Salle uniform in the 74th minute of La Salle’s 3-0 win over Lehigh on Saturday. Sophomore Joe Farrell (Wissahickon) contributed an assist, and redshirt junior Nick Becker (Council Rock North) also had an assist.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Junior Molly Phillips (Pennsbury) scored a goal in Gettysburg’s 4-0 win over Washington College on Saturday. Gettysburg (11-0-2) is unbeaten in 13 games so far this season.

Junior Carly Yost (North Penn) worked a give and go with teammate Dana Hunt that resulted in a goal by Hunt in West Chester’s 2-1 win over Bloomsburg on Saturday.

Junior Kimber Kisselback (Neshaminy) contributed an assist in Holy Family’s 1-0 win over Molloy College on Tuesday night.

Kaceyanne Cerankowski (Neshaminy) scored her first goal of the season in Elizabethtown’s 4-0 win over Moravian on Wednesday.

Alicia Roberts (Upper Moreland) scored a goal in Wilkes University’s 7-0 win over Baptist Bible College on Monday afternoon. In Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Gwynedd-Mercy, Roberts contributed an assist on the game winner.

Kayla Nolan (Abington) scored her team’s only goal in Penn State Abington’s 4-1 loss to Rowan University on Saturday. In Tuesday’s 7-0 win over Notre Dame (Md.), junior forward Mallory Mugnier (Abington), a new addition to the program this year, found the net four times and assisted on a fifth goal. Teammates Molly Wyman (Abington) and Cindy Wade (Abington) each added single goals.

Sophomore Katie O’Neill (Council Rock South) scored the game winner in a shootout in Tuesday’s game against Widener that ended in a 1-1 tie. The Griffins won the best-of-five shootout 3-2 with O’Neill connecting for the game winner.

Katie Miller (North Penn) was part of the defensive line that kept the pressure off Kutztown’s keeper in the Golden Bears’ 2-0 win over Seton Hill on Wednesday.

MEN’S TENNIS
Penn State Abington senior Steven Ly (Bensalem) was named the NEAC West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 15 after a pair of strong performances. Ly picked up a pair of singles victories and a doubles win across two matches to start the season. He earned a 6-1, 6-2 win at third singles during Abington’s season opener against Albright where the team suffered a 5-4 setback. He followed that with a 6-1, 6-4 win at third singles during a 5-4 loss to Arcadia where he also partnered with junior Kevin Wilkinson for an 8-6 win in second doubles.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Cabrini senior Katie Kennedy (Wissahickon) was named CabriniAthletics.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sept. 15. She also was named to the Colonial States Athletic Conference weekly honor roll. Kennedy helped the Cavaliers tally a pair of wins to open their CSAC schedule. She remained perfect on the season after leading the Blue and White to a pair of 9-0 wins over Rosemont College and Cedar Crest College. In Cabrini’s home win over Rosemont, the senior scored a 6-0, 6-0 win in her number one singles match. She also teamed with sophomore Nicole Broccolino for an 8-0 win at number one doubles. In Cabrini’s win over Cedar Crest, Kennedy earned a 6-1, 6-0 win in singles play and an 8-2 victory in doubles. On the season, Kennedy is a combined 7-0. She has surrendered just seven games in singles play while not dropping a set. She has also teamed with Broccolino to win all four of their doubles matches, losing just 11 games.
Kennedy and sophomore Nicole Broccolino improved to 5-0 on the year with an 8-1 win at number one doubles in Cabrini’s 5-3 win over Arcadia on Thursday.

Senior captain Rachel Fein (Wissahickon) led the charge in Gwynedd Mercy’s 8-1 win over Immaculata on Friday with convincing wins in both doubles and singles where she didn’t yield a single game. Taylor Michener (Central Bucks South) and Jenna Caffarello (North Penn) notched an 8-5 win at third doubles. Caffarello also won the match of the day, winning her singles match in three sets in a third set tiebreaker after trailing by three points in the tiebreaker. In Tuesday’s 5-4 loss to Division One La Salle, Fein earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at first singles and Caffarello notched a 6-1, 6-0 win at sixth singles. Caffarello was part of the third doubles team that earned an 8-2 win.

Junior Allison Bean (Neshaminy) was part of the first doubles team that earned an 8-3 win in East Stroudsburg’s 7-2 win over Caldwell on Thursday.

Penn State Abington freshman Honora Hegarty (Abington) was named the NEAC West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 15. The freshman helped lead the Nittany Lions to a 6-3 win over Cairn University behind a pair of victories. Hegarty also was part of the second doubles team that earned a 6-3 win and, in her first singles action, picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win at singles play. Hegarty was part of the first doubles team that earned an 8-5 win in Penn State Abington’s 5-2 loss to Rosemont on Friday.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Freshman Casey Griffith (Upper Merion) matched her season best with 25 digs in UMBC’s 3-1 win over Liberty on Saturday.

Sophomore Cassidy Koenig (Upper Merion) had 37 assists in Cabrini’s 3-0 sweep of Widener on Saturday. In Cabrini’s 3-0 win over Haverford later in the day, Koenig had 28 assists.

Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) had 17 kills and three blocks in Franklin & Marshall’s 3-1 win over Ursinus on Saturday. In last Sunday’s 3-0 sweep of Mount St. Vincent at the F&M Scramble Tournament, Harvey had nine kills. She had nine kills in F&M’s 3-1 loss to Cabrini and later that day had 12 kills in Franklin & Marshall’s 3-1 win over Susquehanna. Harvey was named to the all-tournament team.

Sam Nelson (Central Bucks West) had 22 assists while teammate Kate Schalck (William Tennent) had two solo blocks and a block assist to go with six kills in Penn State Abington’s 3-0 win over Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday night.

Eastern University freshman Stephanie Elechko (North Penn) was named by the Middle Atlantic Conference as the Freedom Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 15. The freshman middle hitter helped the Eagles to four wins at a tournament at Neumann University and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. She hit .547 over the four-match span, highlighted by a stellar showing on the opening day when she hit .750 in the first match against Neumann University and .818 against Marymount University (Va.) and finished with a .783 hitting percentage for the day (18 kills, 0 errors, 23 attempts). Elechko added five kills in two sets against Pitt-Bradford and 11 kills in the Eagles’ win over Richard Stockton. She also had three solo blocks and three blocks assists in the weekend tournament.
Elechko had a team-high 14 kills in No. 16 Eastern University’s 3-1 loss to No. 8 Juniata on Saturday.

Senior middle blocker Mara Berzins (Pennridge) had two solo blocks in Ursinus College’s 3-1 loss to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.

Devon Maugle (Plymouth Whitemarsh) had five kills and 10 digs in UConn’s 3-2 win over Rhode Island in its final match of the Dartmouth Duel on Saturday. With the win, the Huskies finished the tournament 3-1. Earlier in the day, in UConn’s 3-1 loss to No. 9 Minnesota, Maugle had 14 kills and eight digs. UConn is one of just two teams this season to win a set against the Golden Gophers. In Friday’s 3-0 sweep of Dartmouth, Maugle collected her second double-double in as many games as she finished with 12 kills and 10 digs. Earlier in the day, in UConn’s 3-1 win over New Hampshire, Maugle had 11 kills and 12 digs.

A career day from sophomore Audrey Stringer (Pennsbury) helped lead Kutztown to a straight set victory over Charleston on Saturday on the campus of West Liberty in the Mountain Eastern Conference/PSAC Conference Co-Host Invitational. Stringer contributed 19 kills off of 25 total attacks, committing no errors and posting an attack percentage of .760. Her 19 kills are the most by a Golden Bear since 2011. This is the second match this season where Stringer had an attack percentage above 75 percent. In Kutztown’s 3-1 loss to Liberty later in the day, Stringer had 15 kills. In Kutztown’s 3-0 loss to Wheeling Jesuit, Stringer led Kutztown with eight kills. Earlier in the evening Friday, Stringer had 12 kills in Kutztown’s 3-1 win Fairmont State.
