MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Widener junior Ryan Gallagher (Neshaminy) finished 38th with a time of 21:15.15 at the Main Line Invitational on Saturday.

Chestnut Hill senior Owen Ward (Harry S. Truman) finished 40th with a time of 32:18.06 in the 8K at the Philadelphia Metro Meet at West Fairmount Park’s Belmont Plateau. Chestnut Hill finished 11th with 275 points.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Lock Haven’s Laura Histand (Neshaminy) finished 13th with a time of 23:19.70 in the women’s 6K run in Saturday’s Lock Haven Invitational. Lock Haven finished first in the seven-team meet with 37 points.

Millersville’s Michelle Blum (Central Bucks East) and Megan Meyer (Central Bucks South) placed 30th and 31st with times of 24:15.50 and 24:16.20 respectively in the women’s 6K in Saturday’s Lock Haven Invitational. Millersville finished third in the team competition with 83 points.

West Chester’s Kim McManus (Plymouth Whitemarsh) and Trish Evans (Hatboro-Horsham) finished 45th and 47th with times of 25:06.90 and 25:12.60 respectively in the women’s 6K in Saturday’s Lock Haven Invitational. West Chester finished sixth in the team competition.

FIELD HOCKEY
A pair of SOL alums have earned coveted spots on the Pan American Team. Katie O'Donnell (Wissahickon) and Lauren Crandall (Central Bucks East)  have been named to the elite squad that will compete in the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, where the team will attempt to earn a ticket to the 2012 London Olympic Games. The Pan Am Games will be held Oct. 19-28 with eight teams competing but only the gold medalist earning the ticket to the Olympic Games.

Junior Marlaine Schneider (Neshaminy) scored her fourth goal of the season in Rider’s 6-0 win over Bucknell on Saturday.

Sophomore Lauren Purvis (Hatboro-Horsham) scored a goal in Penn State’s 4-0 win over Temple on Thursday night.

La Salle sophomore Olivia Shoemaker (Souderton) scored the game-winning goal with 10:05 remaining in Saturday’s game against Saint Francis (Pa.), propelling the Explorers to a 2-1 win. Shoemaker scored just 57 seconds after the Red Flash had tied the game 1-1. Junior Becca Chylack (Souderton) scored La Salle’s first goal in the ninth minute on a corner shot. Chylack moved into ninth place on La Salle’s all-time points list with 48.

Freshman Alexandra Atiyeh (Souderton) scored her first collegiate goal in Drexel’s 4-3 win in penalty strokes over James Madison University. Assisting on Atiyeh’s goal was junior Amanda Fleischut (Central Bucks West). Fleischut also scored a goal in the win. On Sunday, Fleischut contributed an assist in Drexel’s 4-2 loss to Virginia Commonwealth.

Sophomore Maria Karidas (Council Rock South) scored a pair of goals while senior Casey Dellostretto (Upper Moreland) scored in her fifth straight game in Gwynedd-Mercy's 3-0 win over William Paterson on Sunday evening. With the win, the Griffins improved to 6-3 on the season. On Saturday, Dellostretto score a pair of goals in Gwynedd-Mercy’s 6-1 win over Marywood. Junior Erin Gorenflo (Plymouth Whitemarsh) and Karidas both added single goals for the Griffins. On Tuesday, Dellostretto also scored two goals in Gwynedd’s 8-1 win over Notre Dame (Md.). Gorenflo had a pair of assists.

Dellestretto was named CSAC Player of the Week for her performance last week. Gwynedd went 3-0 on the week, and Dellestretto scored five goals in those three wins, recording at least one goal a game. She has registered a point in eight out of nine games so far this fall.

Freshman Jessie Accurso (Central Bucks South) scored her first collegiate goal in Yale’s 3-2 loss to Princeton on Saturday. Christina Maida (Central Bucks East) turned away four shots in goal for Princeton.

Senior goalkeeper Megan Goelz (Pennsbury) collected six saves, including four in the first period and two in the second half in Villanova’s 2-1 win over Rutgers on Saturday. The win was the third in a row for the Wildcats. In Villanova’s 2-1 win over Penn on Wednesday, Goelz turned away four shots.

Caitlin Vasey (Central Bucks East) scored a goal in Lebanon Valley’s 6-2 win over Haverford on Thursday.

Senior goalkeeper Jill Lukens (Central Bucks East) was credited with six saves in Ursinus College’s 6-3 win over Swarthmore on Wednesday. In Saturday’s 5-1 loss to F&M, Lukens turned away five shots.

Brittany Varacallo (Central Bucks South) recorded a pair of saves in the first half of IUP’s 4-3 win over Mercyhurst on Saturday.On Wednesday, she played the second half in goal in #5 IUP’s 4-0 loss to #3 Shippensburg in a battle of two nationally-ranked squads. She recorded one save.

Sophomore Kierstan Ryan (Harry S. Truman) scored a goal in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s 5-3 win over St. John Fisher on Wednesday.

Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Staufenberg (Norristown) recorded five saves in Lock Haven’s 3-1 win over Saint Francis on Wednesday.

Jackie Zylka (Souderton) scored a goal in Elizabethtown’s 5-2 win over Wilkes on Saturday.

Sophomore Samantha Facciolla (Council Rock South) is a member of a Bloomsburg University defensive unit that has allowed just three goals in eight games. The Huskies, who have outscored their opponents 33-3, have five shutouts on the season and take a streak of four straight shutouts into Tuesday night's game against Kutztown. The Huskies are ranked number one in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.

FOOTBALL
Junior quarterback Kevin Morton (Abington) threw for 326 yards on 22-for-31 passing while racking up four touchdowns through the air in 12th-ranked Kutztown’s  49-0 win over Cheney on Saturday. When connecting with receiver Josh Smith for a 20-yard TD pass in the second quarter, Morton tied a school record of 21 straight games with a touchdown pass. He has thrown at least two touchdown passes in 19 of KU’s last 21 games. Josh Mastromatto (Upper Dublin) had five receptions for 70 yards, which included a 51-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown. Junior Alex DiNolfi (Norristown) was a ball hawk on the defensive side, delivering a pair of second quarter interceptions. He had returns of 21 and 30 yards. DiNolfi leads a Golden Bear defense that has now forced a turnover in 15 of its last 16 games and now has 10 interceptions in four games this season. DiNolfi leads the team with four interceptions this season. Teammate Brett Moss (Bensalem) recorded a sack.

Ursinus College senior defensive end Sean Whelan (Central Bucks East) was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week last week. Whelan recorded eight solo tackles to lead the defense as the Bears held F&M to just 210 yards in a 21-9 victory. He also had two tackles for a loss and a sack among his nine total stops.

Senior linebacker Greg Martell (Neshaminy) had two sacks and finished with a game-high 13 tackles in Ursinus College’s 35-28 win over McDaniel on Saturday. Junior fullback Teddy Conrad (Central Bucks West) scored on a three-yard touchdown run to open the game. He finished the day with 29 yards and two touchdowns.

Sophomore outside linebacker Derek Brown (Souderton) had a team-high 11 tackles in East Stroudsburg’s 37-26 loss to West Chester on Saturday night. Teammate Mike Bergey (Souderton) had nine tackles.  Shawn Leo (Souderton) connected on three-of-three field goal attempts, which included a 21-yarder, a 20-yarder and a 25-yarder. Leo is 10-for-12 on the year.

Brandon McManus (North Penn) connected on a 41-yard field goal as time expired in the opening half, giving Temple a 31-0 halftime lead on its way to a 38-7 win over Maryland on Saturday.

Dylan Manni (Bensalem) had four catches for 55 yards in Bloomsburg’s 46-7 win over Millersville University on Saturday.  Millersville’s Lou Brown (Upper Dublin) had two receptions for 11 yards. The Huskies are ranked fourth in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II poll. They earned a number six ranking according to the D2Football.com poll. Other SOL alums on Bloomsburg’s roster are Ryan Dickerson (Souderton), Shaun Moore (North Penn), Greg Waters (Council Rock South) and Shane Quinn (Neshaminy).

GOLF
Sophomore Mike Johnson (Hatboro-Horsham) shot a 73 (+3) to lead La Salle in its first day of competition at the Leo Keenan Invitational last weekend. He shot a one-under 34 on the back nine and was tied for 13th in the 63-player field. The following day, Johnson shot a 79 to finish tied for 27th with a 152 (+12). La Salle finished eighth overall.

Russell Hartung (Central Bucks East) shot rounds of 83, 85 and 78 (246) for Temple in the Adams Cup last week. Temple finished 14th out of 19 teams.

MEN’S SOCCER
Freshman Sean Murphy (North Penn) had two saves in 17:27 in his first career start in goal in East Stroudsburg’s 4-0 loss to California on Saturday.

Freshman forward Wesley Fossile (North Penn) scored is first collegiate goal in East Stroudsburg's 3-1 win over Concord to open the season on Sept. 2.

Sophomore Brendan Gorman (North Penn) scored a goal after receiving the ball off a deflection in Bloomsburg’s 4-3 overtime loss to Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday. Teammate Anthony Manero (Council Rock North) contributed an assist. On Saturday, Fran Miller (Central Bucks East) scored an unassisted goal in Bloomsburg’s 1-1 tie with Shippensburg. For the Red Raiders, junior Andrew Foran (Council Rock North) made his first appearance in goal this season. He made two saves in his debut match.

Temple junior Matt MacWilliams (North Penn) received honorable mention recognition from the Philadelphia Soccer Six committee for last week’s efforts. MacWilliams put up a three-point night against the Jacksonville Dolphins in Temple’s first match of the Stetson Soccer Classic.

Freshman Chris Davidson (North Penn) gained control and centered a ball in front of an empty box, setting up a goal by teammate Eric Pepper that propelled No. 20 Millersville to a 1-0 win over Shippensburg. It was the only shot of the game for either team, and it kept Millersville’s record perfect at 3-0 in the PSAC (4-0 overall).

WOMEN’S SOCCER
Junior goalkeeper Tara Murphy (Council Rock South) nabbed her second shutout victory of the season in Temple’s 1-0 win over Francis Marion on Friday. On Sunday, Murphy had saves on four of five shots in the first half of Temple’s 3-1 loss to Siena. For the game, Murphy turned away six shots.

Melissa Kornock (North Penn) scored twice and added an assist to lead IUP to a 4-1 win over Gannon in a battle of regionally-ranked teams on Saturday. Kornock has scored five goals and assisted on three others in her past three games as the Crimson Hawks have gone 3-0 and outscored their opponents 13-3. On Thursday, Kornock connected on a penalty kick in IUP’s 4-1 win over West Virginia Wesleyan. Two days earlier, Kornock scored a pair of goals and assisted on two others in IUP’s 5-1 win over East Stroudsburg.

Kayla Johnson (Quakertown) contributed an assist in Elizabethtown’s 3-0 win over Moravian on Wednesday.

Jen Hutchinson (Neshaminy) ricocheted a shot from more than 30 yards out off the crossbar and into the net for a goal with four minutes remaining in regulation to give West Chester a 1-1 tie with visiting California on Tuesday.

MEN’S TENNIS
Andres Prince (Wissahickon)
and Evan Carney were Bloomsburg’s only winners in doubles in the final day of the BU Fall Classic on Sunday, winning their match 8-5 in the ‘A’ flight. On Saturday, the duo was a perfect 2-0 while Prince took both of his singles matches in the ‘D’ flight in straights. On Saturday, Tyler Pultro (Central Bucks West) and his partner posted a perfect 2-0 record in the ‘A’ doubles flight.

Christopher Hasyn (Lansdale) won the first championship of the day for Penn State at the Famsworth/Princeton Invitational last Sunday. He and his doubles partner defeated a doubles team from Yale 9-8. It was one of three championships Penn State won.

Fernando Tovia (Central Bucks South) earned a 6-0, 6-3 win at fourth singles in La Salle’s 6-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas last week. He also was part of the first doubles team that earned an 8-4 win.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Gwynedd-Mercy sophomore Rachel Rein (Wissahickon) was named the Colonial States Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 18. She went a perfect 6-0 in three GMC wins, winning three singles matches in straight sets at the number one spot while going 3-0 at the #1 doubles position, as GMC went 3-0 to improve to 6-0 on the year.

On Thursday, Fein earned a 6-2, 6-0 win at first singles in Gwynedd’s 6-3 win over Richard Stockton. She also was part of the first doubles team that earned an 8-1 win. On Friday, Fein earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at first singles and an 8-1 win at first doubles in Gwynedd’s 8-1 win over Notre Dame (Md.). Teammate Corina Davis (North Penn) earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at number six singles, and Taylor Michener (Central Bucks South) was part of the third doubles team that earned an 8-0 win.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Sarah Godfrey (William Tennent)
had five kills in Lebanon Valley’s 3-0 win over Alvernia on Tuesday.

Freshman Julie Harvey (Hatboro-Horsham) contributed five kills and four aces in Franklin & Marshall’s 3-0 win over McDaniel on Wednesday night (25-7, 25-12, 25-16). Last Saturday, Harvey led the F&M attack with 11 kills and one black to go along with one ace in F&M’s 3-0 win over Moravian. Harvey has a team-high 106 kills for the season and is averaging 2.79 per set. She is also the team leader in blocks with 13 and is second on the team with 13 aces.

Katherine Tohanczyn (North Penn) had six kills and four digs in Chestnut Hill’s 3-2 win over Wilmington on Tuesday.

Lindsay Palm (Council Rock North) had four kills on Saturday as Elizabethtown dropped matches to No. 11 Juniata and St. Mary’s (Md.). On Friday, Palm had eight kills in Elizabethtown’s 3-1 win over Dickinson. In Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Albright, Palm led the Blue Jays attack with 12 kills. Through Elizabethtown’s first eight matches, Palm is the team leader in hitting percentage (.398) and is on track to be the first Blue Jay to collect 100 kills this season.
