Pennsbury will attempt to defend its Suburban One League National Conference title as the Falcons (8-1, 6-0) will host rival Neshaminy (9-0, 6-0) in what should be a classic battle of conference unbeaten teams on Friday.  The winner takes all in terms of a SOL National Conference title, however, both Pennsbury and the Redskins will advance to the PIAA District One Playoffs win-or-lose.

North Penn will own at least a share of the SOL Continental Conference title after the Knights (6-3, 6-0) marched to a decisive 50-14 victory over Central Bucks West (7-2, 5-1) last Friday.  North Penn will earn an outright championship if the Knights can take care of business this Friday against Souderton (2-7, 2-4).  If North Penn were to lose and Central Bucks West was able to defeat district rival Central Bucks South (4-5, 2-4) – North Penn and CB West would share the title.

Plymouth Whitemarsh will own at least a share of the SOL American Conference title after the Colonials (7-2, 6-0) marched to a hard-fought 28-23 victory over Upper Dublin (8-1, 5-1) last Friday.  Plymouth Whitemarsh will earn an outright championship if the Colonials can take care of business this Friday against Springfield (5-3, 3-3).  If Plymouth Whitemarsh were to loseand Upper Dublin was able to defeat Upper Merion (3-6, 1-5) – PW and Upper Dublin would share the title.

And the beat goes on...

SUBURBAN ONE LEAGUE NATIONAL CONFERENCE SHOWDOWN
NESHAMINY REDSKINS (9-0, 6-0)  @ PENNSBURY FALCONS (8-1, 6-0)
FRIDAY – 7 PM.

Neshaminy head coach Mark Schmidt says:  “There is no question that Pennsbury is the most talented team we have played this year.  They have four weapons – three running backs (Charles Snorweah, Ronquay Smith, and Raheem Thompson) and a quarterback (Breon Clark) – that can hurt you with the run.  And the quarterback can throw and hurt you as well.

“They play the game with a ‘hair on fire’ attitude on both offense and defense,” added Schmidt.  “They have a lot of good people back from last year, and they are very impressive.

“I love our kids and the way we are playing now,” continued Schmidt.  “They have been a lot of fun to coach, and it should be a good physical game against Pennsbury.”

Pennsbury head coach Galen Snyder says:  “(Neshaminy running back D’Andre) Pollard has been very impressive.  He is fast and has great vision, but the key is that he is playing behind a tremendous offensive line.  Plus the quarterback (Tyler Wombough) has shown that he can make plays as well.

“A key to us winning will be if we can play with them along the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball,” added Snyder.  “Both teams have scored a lot of points, but both teams scored a lot of points last year and the final score was 7-0 (Pennsbury).

“This is always a great game,” continued Snyder.  “They understand us very well – and we understand them very well.”

Suburban One League Continental Conference ‘Snapshot’
North Penn Knights

The path to the sole possession of the SOL Continental Conference championship is clearly marked ahead for North Penn.  The Knights (6-3, 6-0) – who won the battle of the conference unbeatens when they routed Central Bucks West (7-2, 5-1), 50-14 last Friday – will own the outright title with a win this Friday against Souderton (2-7, 2-4).

However, when the season began it was not apparent that North Penn would be a conference champion.  The Knights got a real spanking the first three weeks of the season against La Salle (34-7), Archbishop Wood (48-3), and St. Joe Prep (35-6) – all elite programs from the Philadelphia Catholic League.  There were no cupcakes on the non-conference menu for the 2013 Knights.

“Everyone was down when we were 0-3, and it tough to come to practice when you are 0-3,” said North Penn head coach Dick Beck.  “But I’ve been around here a long time, and the coaching staff continued to believe in the players, and right now I believe that nobody is going to stop us.

“To be able to come back from 0-3 and get to this point where we can win a conference championship says a lot about our senior leadership,” added Beck.  “I couldn’t be any prouder of the kids.”

Suburban One League American Conference ‘Snapshot’
Plymouth Whitemash Colonials

The path to the sole possession of the SOL American Conference championship is clearly marked ahead for Plymouth Whitemarsh.  The Colonials (7-2, 6-0) – who won the battle of the conference unbeatens when they defeated Upper Dublin (8-1, 5-1), 28-23 last Friday – will own the outright title with a win on this Friday against Springfield (5-3, 3-3).

However, when the season began, it was not apparent that PW would be a three-peat conference champion.  The Colonials got a real spanking from both Perkiomen Valley (33-0) and Abington (34-12) before turning their season around with an overtime win against Downingtown West (36-34).

Head coach Dan Chang – both a former North Penn player and an assistant coach under current head coach Dick Beck – did not shy away from a rugged non-conference schedule.  There were no cupcakes on the non-conference menu for the 2013 Colonials.

“It is something that we were concerned about – we didn’t want to be 0-3 and figure we had to run the table to get into the playoffs,” said Chang.  “But I have mindset – much like Coach Beck – in that we wanted to challenge the players early in the season – even if that meant losing a game or two and coming back from adversity.

“We want to be a football program that progresses beyond our league schedule and into the (district) playoffs,” added Chang.  “The tough games at the beginning of the season are worth the risk.”
