2014 SOL Boys' BB District Preview (Opening Round)

Eleven SOL boys’ basketball teams will be in action in this weekend’s SOL District One AAAA Tournament.

The regular season for the Suburban One League is now part of SOL history – but there is still history to be made for 11 SOL teams that will open PIAA Quad-A District One tournament play Friday (weather permitting – and it won’t).

The list of teams from the SOL Continental Conference includes Pennridge, Central Bucks East, Central Bucks South, North Penn, Central Bucks West, andSouderton.  The list of teams from the SOL American Conference include Plymouth Whitemarsh, Wissahickon, andNorristown.  And the short list from the SOL National Conference includes Pennsbury andAbington.

Good luck to the Rams, Patriots, Titans, Knights, Bucks, Indians, Colonials, Trojans, Eagles, Falcons, and Ghosts.

# 32 Norristown Eagles @ # 1 Conestoga Pioneers

Season Resume:  Norristown finished the season in third place in the Suburban One League American Conference and was 12-10 overall.  Conestoga finished the season in second place in the Central League and was 20-4 overall.
Records vs. District One playoff teams:  Norristown played 5 D-1 playoff teams and posted a 2-3 record.  The Eagles defeated Wissahickon twice (51-37 & 43-41) and lost to Plymouth Whitemarsh twice (67-42 & 57-44) and Pennsbury (80-67).  Conestoga played 7 D-1 playoff teams and posted a 6-2 record.  The Pioneers defeated Penncrest three times (62-55, 53-51 & 55-33) and also defeated Harriton (75-65), North Penn (57-56) and Pennsbury (53-42).  Conestoga lost twice to Central League champion Lower Merion (60-57 & 64-55).
Players To Watch:  Norristown features Kip Patton, Curt Lever, Chris Evans, Omar Jackson, and Roy Green.  Conestoga features Andrew Diehl, Martin Dorsey, Zach Yonda, Daryl Caldwell, and Dan Vila.
Winner Gets:  The winner of this game will play the winner of the game between # 16 Ridley and # 17 Methacton.

#24 Central Bucks East Patriots @ # 9 Lower Merion Aces

Season Resume:  Central Bucks East finished the season as the Suburban One League Continental Quad-Champs and was 12-10 overall.  Lower Merion finished the season as the Central League champion and was 17-6 overall.
Records vs. District One playoff teams:  Central Bucks East played 12 D-1 playoff teams and posted a 7-5 record.  The Patriots defeated North Penn twice (46-40 & 61-49), Souderton twice (71-64 & 49-45), Pennridge (65-47), Central Bucks West (45-42), and Central Bucks South (50-49).  Central Bucks East lost to Ridley (41-40), Central Bucks West (67-51), Wissahickon (42-39), Pennridge (56-53), and Central Bucks South (65-49).  Lower Merion played 5 D-1 playoff teams and posted a 4-1 record.  The Aces defeated Conestoga twice (60-57 & 64-55) and Harriton twice (56-42 & 79-70).  Lower Merion lost to Penncrest (52-50).
Players To Watch:    Central Bucks East features Tommy Strasburger, Brendan McLaughlin, Ben Kardane, Blake Peterson, and Brendan O’Neil.  Lower Merion features Justin McFadden, Steve Pendleton, JaQuan Johnson, Jules Brown, and Corey Sherman.

# 28 Academy Park Knights  @ # 5 Pennsbury Falcons

Season Resume:  Academy Park finished the season as the third place team in the Delaware Valley League and was 15-7 overall.  Pennsbury was the second place team in the Suburban One League National Conference and was 18-4 overall.
Records vs. District One playoff teams:  Academy Park played 6 D-1 playoff teams and posted an 0-6 record.  The Knights lost to Chester twice (75-40 & 73-71), Penn Wood twice (80-71 & 72-48), Penncrest (63-49), and West Chester Rustin (76-64).  Pennsbury played 6 D-1 playoff teams and posted a 3-3 record.  The Falcons defeated West Chester Rustin (67-54), Spring-Ford (75-60), and Norristown (80-67).  Pennsbury lost to Abington twice (62-61 & 59-49) and Conestoga (53-42).
Players to Watch:  Academy Park features Travis Smith, Kaleb Taliaferro, Terran Harris, Jawan Collins, and Cyrie Spencer.  Pennsbury features Cameron Jones, Mekhi Bryant, Steve Ciotti, Derrick Woods, and Lewis Troh.
Winner Gets:  The winner of this game will play the winner of the game between # 12 Oxford and # 21 Central Bucks South.

#21 Central Bucks South Titans @ # 12 Oxford Chargers

Season Resume:  Central Bucks South finished the season as a Quad-Champion of the Suburban One League Continental Conference and was 13-9 overall.  Oxford was the second place finisher in the Ches-Mont American Division and was 18-6 overall.
Records vs. District One playoff teams:  Central Bucks South played 12 D-1 playoff teams and posted a 5-7 record.  The Titans defeated CB West twice (44-40 & 43-41), North Penn (70-63), CB East (65-49), and Pennridge (67-61).  Central Bucks South lost twice to Souderton (49-47 & 60-52), Spring-Ford (65-56), Pennridge (75-62), Pennsbury (67-49), North Penn (56-55), and Central Bucks East (50-49).  Oxford played 6 D-1 playoff teams and posted a 4-2 record.  The Chargers defeated Coatesville twice (53-44 & 75-68), West Chester Rustin twice (50-47 & 74-59), and West Chester Henderson (54-49).
Players To Watch:  Central Bucks South features Matt Scamuffo, Bruce Dobisch, Paul Weeks, Chris Hones, and Ryan Taglimonte.  Oxford features Musty Muhad, Jordan Logan, Ryan Hubley, Dylan Dunn, and Miles Clarke.

# 18 Souderton Indians @ # 15 Pennridge Rams

Season Resume:  Souderton finished the season as the sixth place team in the Suburban One League Continental Conference and was 13-9 overall.  Pennridge was the Quad-Champion of the Suburban One League Continental Conference and was 15-7 overall.
Records vs. District One playoff teams:  Souderton played 11 D-1 playoff teams and posted a 5-6 record.  The Indians defeated Central Bucks South twice (49-47 & 60-52), Central Bucks West (57-42), Wissahickon (54-51), and North Penn (47-43).  Souderton lost twice to Central Bucks East (71-64 & 49-45), Pennridge twice (58-39 & 49-45), Central Bucks West (57-42), and North Penn (74-63).  Pennridge played 10 D-1 teams and posted a 5-5 record.  The Rams defeated Souderton twice (58-39 & 49-45), Central Bucks South (75-62), Central Bucks West (65-53), and Central Bucks East (56-53).  Pennridge lost to North Penn twice (72-71 & 51-49), Central Bucks South (67-61), Central Bucks West (61-53), and Central Bucks East (65-47).
Players To Watch:  Souderton features Carter Knight, Tim Markow, Evan Slone, Jared Bernhart, and Tracy Simsick.  Pennridge features Joe Molettiere, Zach Muredda, Dan Long, Mike Tatarowicz, and Joe Unangst.

# 26 North Penn Knights @ # 7 Abington Ghosts.

Season Resume:  North Penn finished the season as the Quad-Champion of the Suburban One League Continental Conference and was 11-11 overall.  Abington finished as the champion of the Suburban One League National Conference and was 19-3 overall.
Records vs. District One playoff teams:  North Penn played 13 D-1 playoff teams and posted a 5-8 record.  The Knights defeated Pennridge twice (72-71 & 51-49), Souderton (74-63), Central Bucks West (62-59), and Central Bucks South (56-55).  North Penn lost twice to Central Bucks East (46-40 & 61-49), Central Bucks South (70-63), Conestoga (57-56), Plymouth Whitemarsh (78-66), Souderton (47-43), Central Bucks West (41-34), and Methacton (63-52).  Abington played 4 D-1 playoff teams and finished with a 4-0 record.  The Ghosts defeated Pennsbury twice (62-61 & 63-55) West Chester Henderson (68-48), and Wissahickon (59-48).
Players To Watch:  North Penn features Hakim Suleyman, Brian Coleman, Cordell Lord, Noah Melchoir, and Jim Lim.  Abington features Matt Penecale, Lazaros Mackrides, Anthony Lee, Amir Hinton, and Khari Jefferson.

#30 Wissahickon Trojans @ # 3 Great Valley Patriots

Season Resume:  Wissahickon finished the season as the third place team in the Suburban One League American Conference and was 13-9 overall.  Great Valley was the champion of the Ches-Mont American Division and was 21-2 overall.
Records vs. District One playoff teams:  Wissahickon played 7 D-1 playoff teams and posted a record of 1-6.  The Trojans defeated Central Bucks East (42-39).  Wissahickon lost to Plymouth Whitemarsh twice (69-56 & 80-44), Norristown twice (51-37 & 43-41), Abington (59-48), and Souderton (54-51).  Great Valley played 7 games against D-1 playoff teams and posted a record of 6-1.  The Patriots defeated Oxford twice (63-42 & 53-36), Downingtown East (69-44), Penn Wood (47-45), West Chester Rustin (55-51), and Bishop Shanahan (64-41).
Players To Watch:  Wissahickon features Chase Wilson, Chris Vila, Chris Carradorini, Todd Bentley, and Jared Reed.  Great Valley features Mikal Bridges, Kyrie Ames, Blake McGloud, Ricky McQuay, and Nate Cohen.

# 27 Downingtown East Cougars  @ # 6 Plymouth Whitemarsh Colonials

Season Resume:  Downingtown East finished second in the Ches-Mont National Division and was 14-9 overall.  Plymouth Whitemarsh was the champion of the Suburban One League American Conference and was 19-3 overall.
Records vs. District One Playoff teams:  Downingtown East played 9 D-1 district playoff teams and posted a 3-6 record.  The Cougars defeated Coatesville (65-58), West Chester Henderson (60-41), and Bishop Shanahan (54-52).  Downingtown East lost to Coatesville (65-48), West Chester Henderson (66-50), Great Valley (69-44), Bishop Shanahan (63-49), Plymouth Whitemarsh (55-45), and Spring-Ford (56-40).  Plymouth Whitemarsh played 6 D-1 playoff teams and posted a 6-0 record.  The Colonials defeated Norristown twice (57-44 & 67-42), Wissahickon twice (80-44 & 69-56), North Penn (78-66), and Downingtown East (55-45).
Players To Watch:  Downingtown East features Cary Angeline, Ryley Angeline, Kyle Tucker, Gary Grove, and Brandon Seamster.  Plymouth Whitemarsh features Jimmy Murray, Cameron Johnson, Andre Mitchell, TJ Minetola, and Manuel Herezi.

# 22 Central Bucks West @ # 11 Penncrest Lions

Season Resume:  Central Bucks West finished in fifth place in the Suburban One League Continental Conference and was 13-9 overall.  Penncrest finished the season in fourth place in the Central League and was 15-8 overall.
Records vs. District One playoff teams:  Central Bucks West played 12 D-1 playoff teams and posted a 5-7 record.  The Bucks defeated Central Bucks East (67-51), Pennridge (61-53), Souderton (57-42), Methacton (52-51) and North Penn (41-34).  CB West lost to Central Bucks South twice (43-41 & 44-40), Spring-Ford (69-54), Souderton (53-49), North Penn (62-59), Pennridge (65-53), and Central Bucks East (43-41).  Penncrest played 9 D-1 playoff teams and posted a 4-5 record.  The Lions defeated Lower Merion (52-50), West Chester Henderson (54-30),  Harriton (52-51), and Ridley (62-47).  Penncrest lost to Conestoga three times (62-55, 55-33 & 53-51), West Chester Rustin (54-30), and Ridley (65-51).
