Abington Appoints Conlin as Football head Coach

The Abington High School Community is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Kevin Conlin as Head Football Coach. Kevin’s appointment was approved at last night’s meeting of the Board of School Directors. During the 17 years that he has been teaching in the Social Studies department, Kevin has touched the lives of so many students.  In addition to  being a member of our Mentoring team, Kevin has worked with members of the Sr. High faculty on many programs that have enriched our school. He will bring to the Galloping Ghosts’ football program vast and decorated experiences from his playing and coaching days.

Kevin is a 1997 graduate of Penn State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and was a member of the football team. He joined the Nittany Lions program as a walk-on where he not only earned a scholarship but also was the starting center for 2 years . Penn State Football is a family legacy for Kevin as his older brothers, Chris and Keith, also played at Penn State under Coach Joe Paterno.  Kevin was a member of the 1994 undefeated Big Ten and Rose Bowl Championship team.  During his years at University Park, Kevin also played in the Outback, Fiesta, and Citrus bowl games.

On the sidelines, Kevin served as an assistant varsity football coach at Abington from 1999 to 2013. He was the Defensive Coordinator and Special Teams Coach.  During his time with the Ghosts, Abington qualified for the District 1 playoffs seven times, won the Suburban One League National Conference twice in 2010 and 2011, and advanced to the District 1 semifinals two times in 2006 and 2013. Kevin will be the 17th head coach in school history, and he looks to build a program rooted in character and hard work. Kevin is eager to begin working with the players for the 2016-2017 season.
