All-Star Baseball Academy
SOL Player of the Week
for week ending April 12, 2014
(Players are selected by nomination of coaches as well as
SuburbanOneSports.com’s baseball writers based on their
performance the preceding week with the final selection
made by SuburbanOneSports.com’s baseball writers.)

Jared Melone, Junior, North Penn High School
The Knights’ third baseman had a big week last week. He was 7-of-11 at the plate (.636) with three runs scored, five RBIs and two doubles as the Knights won two of three games. Melone was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in North Penn’s 11-9 win over Central Bucks East last Friday.

Note from the coach:
“Jared has started out very strong for us this year and continues to make some astute adjustments to elevate his game to a higher level and against better pitching,” coach Kevin Manero said. “We saw some of that in our last two games, and his production certainly didn’t lie.
“He is a big kid with a good mind for the game to complement his physical attributes. He is holding down a strong third base and making the most of his at bats. He has a lot of very good qualities that project him as a strong D-1 prospect.
“Jared’s experience last year in the postseason no doubt helped him. But truthfully, he has been very productive for us ever since his first game up with varsity last spring. He hits the ball hard and forces teams to make plays. All we want out of our guys is good at bats and good swings and the rest should take care of itself. Jared takes that approach and his numbers so far this year reflect that.”
