Bergey’s Buick GMC National Conference Highlighted Player

Bridget Doherty, Senior Captain/Midfielder, Council Rock South
Note from the coach:
“Bridget is the kind of player that leaves everything out on the field,” coach Lisa Belz said. “She plays her heart out every game and demonstrates poise, confidence, and a positive attitude.  As a senior captain, she acts as a positive role model for her teammates and communicates well on and off the field. ”
About Bridget:
Best memory playing field hockey: “My best memory is winning the game of the week and then beating William Tennent. It was a special moment for me and my teammates, and it was the first time I was ever interviewed after a game. That game was also Coach Belz’s 100th win, and it was great to share that moment with her.”
Part of the game I enjoy the most: “Bonding with my teammates on the bus rides and being able to play with them every day.”
How did you get involved in hockey? “My mom played and she thought it would be a good sport for me to try. I attended Council Rocks South’s summer camp and fell in love with the sport.”
My role models are:  “I have always looked up to my older cousins and tried to live up to their academic and athletic accomplishments.”

Bergey’s Buick GMC Continental Conference Highlighted Players

Mel Dunton, Senior Captain, Central Bucks South
Note from the coach:
“Mel is not only a very strong player, but she is a very determined person; one who will step up without being asked,” coach Pat Toner said. “She is a leader on our team, well-respected, a hard worker and, as an added bonus, very funny! Mel is a National Champion equestrian rider, and despite her incredibly busy schedule, we are so thankful that she decided to continue to play for her senior year. It is both an honor and a pleasure to have Mel on our team.”
About Mel:
Best memory playing field hockey: “My favorite memory is beating Methacton in district playoffs my junior year in overtime.”
Part of the game I enjoy the most: “I enjoy building such good friendships with the girls on the team, making the game that much more fun to play.”
How did you get involved in hockey? “I started playing hockey in first grade for WWAA.”
My role model is: “My mom because of how she handles the good and the bad with grace, and for always being so understanding of where people are coming from.”
Music on mobile device: “I love listening to older, more alternative music.”
Favorite food: Ice Cream
Favorite class: Math
Future plans: Go to college and major in health science.
Four people – dead or alive – I’d invite to a dinner party: Amy Shumer, Ellen DeGeneres,Jimmy Fallon, and James Corden.

Kayla Richards, Senior, Pennridge
Note from the coach:
“Kayla has been part of our varsity team since her sophomore year,” coach Becky Spahr said. “She probably wasn't quite ready for that level as a 10th grader, but I knew she had tremendous potential, would work hard and push her teammates to do the same.   She has grown so much since her first varsity minutes.  She now plays fearlessly in any position and never gives up.   She desires the highest   success for the team and cares deeply for her teammates.  Kayla is never selfish.  She is the perfect balance of humility and confidence, and I know that, regardless if hockey is part of her future, those characteristics will carry far in whatever she decides to accomplish.”
About Kayla:
Best memory playing field hockey: “Beating CR South, the newly crowned National Conference champion in 2016. It was our last game, and everyone went all out, never giving up.”
Part of the game I enjoy the most: “Finishing in the circle. Whether it is you that scored or one of your teammates, hearing the ball hit the backboard and having everyone cheering is truly one of the best feelings in the world.”
How did you get involved in hockey? “I started in seventh grade just as something to keep in shape. My mom used to play when she was younger, and both my parents encouraged me to join a team sport for the first time. I picked up my first stick, and things kind of took off from there. My coaches started seeing potential in me, and I continued to get faster and stronger. I’m so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone back then, because I do truly love this sport and the team atmosphere.”
My role model is: Angelina Jolie
Music on mobile device: Rock/Pop
Favorite food: Spaghetti and meatballs
Favorite class: Social Studies
Future plans: Not sure what college/university yet, but I would like to study business or teaching.
