Cavan Tully – Senior at Council Rock North
The Rock North veteran anchors the Indians’ defense, willingly giving up his position on the forward line to help shore up a shorthanded defense this season. Cavan has contributed at both ends of the ice and has four goals and nine assists in 13 games. A standout baseball player, he will be taking his talents to the Division I level and will continue his career at SUNY Binghamton.

Note from the coach:
“He’s a great kid,” coach Chris Gallagher said. “He’s very respectful. He leads by example. You never have to tell him anything twice. He’s a pleasure to coach, and he’s a testament to high school hockey. I can’t say enough good things about that kid.
“We have six seniors, including him, that I would say are part of our leadership council. In high school, for whatever reason, kids want to be either a captain or alternate captain. Of all the kids, I came to him and said, ‘Cavan, do you care?’ He was the first one to say, ‘No, let the other kids have it. It doesn’t matter. I’m going to lead by example.’ That’s not a direct quote, but it’s a general version of what happened. That’s the kind of kid he is.
“He’s a natural born forward, but he knew that we were extremely shorthanded on defense. He volunteered to play defense, and he’s been our best defenseman. He’s effective at both ends of the ice. He’s averaging close to two points a game on defense. He’s out there almost every other shift, and he just gives it his all. If he played forward, he’d probably have twice as many points, but he’s an individual who puts the team first over his own personal statistics. That’s the kind of kid you’re looking for.”

About Cavan:
Best memory playing high school hockey:
The Rock Cup game, North vs South, is hands down the best game of the season.  This year especially because it went into a shootout in which I had scored. The game was overall a very competitive game and I will remember it forever.
Part of the game I enjoy most:  Hockey is an incredible sport and there is nothing like throwing your body at someone, but I enjoy every aspect of the game.
How did you get involved in hockey? I had played roller hockey since I was little, and then one day as I was eating a bagel my father asked me if I wanted to play ice hockey.  I bought the equipment that day and it was the best decision of my life.
My role model is: My family; Phil and Aden Tully and Maria Valentine.  They are the best people I have ever met and will always have my back as a family should.  Each and every one of them has taught me many valuable lessons that I will carry to my grave.
Music on iPod: Kendrick Lamar, he is a lyrical genius and moves people with his songs.
Favorite food:  Chicken Parmesan
Favorite class:  Math
Future plans: I am attending SUNY Binghamton to further my education and play D1 Baseball.
Four people I’d invite to a dinner party:  Derek Jeter, Gandhi, Chris Gallagher, Kendrick Lamar
