Courtney Klug – Abington

Note from the coach:
“Courtney has been one of our most consistent players all year,” coach Amanda Deering said. “She’s an asset to her team because she maintains composure throughout any type of play and simply gets the job done.
“Last year, Courtney was our utility player and played just about every position on the field except goalkeeper. Even this year, Courtney has stepped up to play multiple positions based on where her team needed her. Lastly, she’s an unselfish player that loves the game and wants her team to be the best they can be.”

Bergey’s Inc. Continental Conference Highlighted Player

Alyssa Bland – Pennridge
Bland is a first-year starter in the defensive backfield for the Rams.
Note from the coach:
“This season, Alyssa has stepped up to fill holes in our backfield left by last year’s graduating class,” coach Becky Spahr said. “I have been truly impressed by her willingness to grow as a player. After every game and practice, Alyssa always asks for areas of improvement. She is not content unless she is improving every day. Her attitude and coach-ability has molded her into an excellent and consistent defender.
“Alyssa has an incredible heart for her teammates. She desires team success over personal recognition and selflessly looks to build her teammates up through her own strong play and positive talk.
“Alyssa is one of those student-athletes that I know will be successful no matter where she goes to school or what she decides to study in the future. Her field hockey work ethic will translate into her off-field effort and enthusiasm for her future career. I love coaching Alyssa and look forward to seeing her grow as she leaves Pennridge.”
About Alyssa:
Best memory playing field hockey:
“My best memory of field hockey would have to be a game against Central Bucks West last year. We were losing 0-2, which gave us little hope to win. Around the middle of the second half, the other team got a stroke called on them. All my teammates were looking around to see which one of us would be chosen to take it. Without even realizing it at first, my coach picked me to take it. We never really had much practice with strokes, so I felt a lot of pressure. My heart was beating so fast, and I couldn't stop imagining that I would end up missing it. As I lined up the ball and got in position, time just stopped. Once I heard that whistle blow, I crouched as low as I could and swung the ball to the left top corner. I didn't realize I made it until my team ran and jumped on me. Everyone cheered and was celebrating. That one stroke ended up changing the whole mood of the game. We suddenly became more excited and driven to win. By the end, we ended up winning 3-2, with all goals being scored in the second half.”
Part of the game I enjoy most:  “The part of the game I enjoy the most would have to be our corners. We have worked so hard perfecting them every practice, even if we stay a bit later. When corners get called during the game, it gives my team and me hope and confidence to score, and maybe even win in the end.”
My role models are:  “Both my parents. They always taught me to go after my dreams and to never give up. They continuously support me and push me to do my best in everything I do.”
Music on iPod:  “My music ranges from classic orchestra to pop. I don’t have a specific genre I listen to because I like all types and listen to them according to my mood or the situation I am in.”
Favorite food:  “My favorite food would have to be sushi. Ever since I was little, I loved seafood. Although sushi is my favorite, I will eat all kinds of seafood, from lobster to raw salmon.”
Favorite class:  “Biology. I love anything dealing with the sciences, especially ones that deal with how our bodies work. I find it fascinating how complex living things can be and how everything in our environment works together to create a balanced community.”
Future plans:  “Go to college and major in biology. Later, I want to attend medical school to become a neurosurgeon.”
If you could invite four people – dead or live – to a dinner party, who would they be?  “I would invite Robin Williams, Harry Styles, Jennifer Lawrence, and Princess Diana. Although all of those people are very different, I feel like many interesting conversations would happen. All of these people are also very inspirational because they all worked very hard for their dreams to come true. Not only are they an inspiration to me but to millions of others as well.”
