Bergey's Inc. SOL SHSHL Player of the Week: Blake Bagdon

Bergey’s Buick GMC
SOL SHSHL Player of the Week

This recognition is sponsored by Bergey’s Buick GMC. Athletes are chosen based on nomination of coaches, and the recipient must be a positive presence on the ice and a credit to the game. Consideration also is given to the student-athlete’s standing in the school and community.

A four-year veteran of William Tennent’s program, Blake Bagdon is a rock solid defenseman. He is an alternate captain and has contributed a goal and three assists for a Tennent squad that is in second place in the National division. Bagdon also excels in the classroom and has been a member of the National Honor Society since he was a sophomore. Bagdon’s college list includes Temple, Penn State, Drexel, Boston University and Johns Hopkins.

Note from the coach:
“Blake’s brother, Brent, played for us, and his father, Jim Bagdon, and his mom, Eileen Bagdon, have both been on our board for years,” coach Nick D’Aurizio said. “They are a Tennent hockey family, and they’ve been an integral part of the program.
“Blake is just solid. He’s a guy you can always rely on. You don’t have to spend a ton of time watching him. You know he’s going to do the right thing, you know he’s going to be there at practice or at games. He’s an alternate captain this year, and he deserves it. He’s a leader, and he’s one of the few guys that will hold somebody accountable, and we need more guys like that. He’s always been a steady presence back there (on defense), and out of a defenseman, that’s exactly what you’re looking for. If we had a team full of Blake Bagdons, we’d be in a good spot.
“Blake’s dad has had a lot of health issues over the last few years and needs a heart/kidney transplant. This summer was especially tough on the family, but Blake always maintains an even-keeled personality. You never can see that it’s getting to him. He takes on a heavy course load of work at school, and he thrives. He’s a very good student, and he’s been holding down the fort with his mother while they’ve been dealing with everything.”
