SOL SHSHL Player of the Week

This recognition is sponsored by Bergey’s Inc. Athletes are chosen based on nomination of coaches, and the recipient must be a positive presence on the ice and a credit to the game. Consideration also is given to the student-athlete’s standing in the school and community.

Jared George – Senior, William Tennent High School
A four-year veteran of the program, the Tennent senior is a versatile player who can fill in anywhere. He has seen action in all 11 of his team’s games and has two goals and two assists. An alternate captain, George was part of the Panthers’ squad that advanced to the Flyers Cup final two years ago. He is looking to pursue a career in law enforcement.

Note from the coach:
“When it came time to nominate someone (for this recognition), it was a really easy decision because Jared is that player,” coach Nick D’Aurizio said. “He’s one of our alternate captains this year. He’s a guy that will do anything for the team. He’s played pretty much every position. Over the offseason when we didn’t know what we were going to do from a goaltending standpoint, he was the first kid to strap on ill-fitting pads to go into a practice and was out there facing shots. That’s the type of kid he is. He was willing to do that – anything for the team. He’s played pretty much every position. He’s the only player I think I’ve ever coached to say he enjoys blocking shots. He likes stepping in front of the puck. I’ve been head coach for 10 years, and I can easily say that Jared George leads the team in blocked shots by a wide margin. The kid sacrifices his body more than anyone I’ve ever coached, and that means a lot to me. As a coach, you love to see that. Whether it’s been first line or third or fourth line, he has no complaints. He goes out and does it and leads by example. He comes from a tight-knit family. I have known the George family for seven years, and they're just a great family. He's a good student. You just couldn’t ask for a better kid really.”
