Mason Large – Senior, Abington High School
Mason Large has been playing ice hockey for 11 years, four of which have been with the Abington varsity team. He is one of Abington’s Assistant Captains. Although he has had to share the net this and last year, he is always ready to take the ice and compete for the Ghosts. When Abington needed a team representative to attend Abington Ice Hockey board meetings, Mason took the lead. When service opportunities were presented to Abington, Mason committed his time. He carries a 3.9 unweighted GPA and is currently taking five AP courses. Mason is involved with several other extra-circular activities including working with the school yearbook committee. He has been accepted to the honors program at Arcadia University with a merit scholarship and is currently awaiting word from several nationally well-known and respected universities.

Note from the coach:
“Mason has been working really hard in practice to control rebounds and manage the puck when it found its way to the crease” according to Ken Brzozowski, Abington Head Coach. “During a recent stretch of games against CB East and Truman, Mason was given the opportunity to play both games and provided the shutdown type of performance we needed to keep our postseason hopes alive with an amazing total of 87 saves resulting in a 2-2 tie and 5-2 win respectively.

“A lot of people frown upon goalies being named either a Captain or Assistant Captain, but what was great for our team was that I wanted to name him Assistant Captain and had already made that choice, but the leaders of our team came to me and suggested Mason as an Assistant before I made the announcement, and he has not disappointed in both his on-ice and off-ice leadership.
“One of my most memorable moments came early this year while playing in a pre-season tournament, Mason came to me and offered up his playing spot in the rotation so our freshman goalie could get some game time, again a sign of a leader and his commitment to the team”
