SOL SHSHL Player of the Week
This recognition is sponsored by Bergey’s Inc. Athletes are chosen based on nomination of coaches, and the recipient must be a positive presence on the ice and a credit to the game. Consideration also is given to the student-athlete’s standing in the school and community.
Mason Procz – Senior at Council Rock South High School
An assistant captain both last year and this year, Mason Procz is a veteran of the program since middle school and has been a varsity goalie the past three years. So far this year, the senior standout is 4-0-1 with a save percent of .938, allowing an average of just 1.36 goals per game.
Note from the coach:
“Mason is a go-to guy,” coach Joe Houk said. “He’s always good conversation, always has a pleasant thing to say, never has a mean thing to say about anybody, never misses practice, and all the kids like him on the team. If someone is down or someone makes a mistake, he doesn’t complain. If he’s not played, he doesn’t complain. He looks at it like, ‘I’ve got to go work harder.’ I think that’s the way he was raised. His mom and dad are good people.
“What makes him a good goalie is his focus and wanting to win all the time. He just gives everything he has. Nothing ever gets him down. If a goal is scored on him, he gets right back in it. If he lets a bad one up, he’s like, ‘My bad, coach.’ He’s one of those kids – when he steps on the ice, he’s got a compete level, and he wants to be there. He wants to win, and when he loses, it bothers him. He’s just a great kid.”
About Mason:
Best memory playing high school hockey: The best memory I have playing high school hockey is winning the Rock Cup in a shootout this year.
Part of the game I enjoy most: I enjoy the intensity and speed of the game the most. No other sport is as fast or competitive as hockey is.
How did you get involved in hockey? I started playing hockey when I was about eight years old. I played floor hockey at the Northampton Rec Center after my family friends recommended it.
My role model is: My mom because she is incredibly strong and also the most caring person I know.
Music on mobile device: I mainly listen to classic rock songs.
Favorite food: Fried Dumplings
Favorite class: Biology
Future plans: I would like to be a medical engineer when I’m older. I want to cure all diseases and make innovative medicines.
Four people I’d invite to a dinner party: Bruce Springsteen, Dan Bilzerian, Joel Embiid and Neil Patrick Harris.
