David P Brown Jr – Kutztown University (Baseball)

Major:  Secondary Education – Math

Final list of colleges:  Kutztown University, Longwood University, Millersville University

Reasons for choosing Kutztown:  “Kutztown has a great campus and sports facilities. When I visited, I had a great feeling about the campus and a very positive meeting with Coach Blum. It is the fit I was looking for. Coach Blum wants to win and so do I. I also felt that he cares about the players as individuals and students, which is very important to me. That is the kind of program I want to play for. I am very honored to be a part of such a great baseball program.”

What was the progression that led you to playing baseball at the collegiate level?  “I always knew that I wanted to play baseball from when I first played in little league. Playing in college was a goal of mine, and I am happy to have met that goal. I attended a few college camps as a sophomore and junior. It gave me the experience of being ‘on stage’ to prepare me for the summer before my senior year. I have been blessed to have had great coaches throughout my years in baseball. I want to thank Coach Moore for the opportunities he has given me. I would also like to thank by other coach, Con Aquilante, for all that he has done for me. Being a player with the Philadelphia Angels, Coach Aquilate has helped me prepare and continue to get better. He taught me about how to train, play, become a baseball player and be the best person I could be. I have spent a lot of time with Coach A to where he feels like a second father. I have tremendous respect for him in helping me become a successful baseball player and person. I look forward to playing at Kutztown and working to achieve more goals both academically and athletically.”

Coach Pete Moore says:  “First, I grew to know David as a person.  He’s honest, respectful, hard working - really everything that you want your son to be.  Then, last year, I got to see that David has a second side to him as a baseball player.  He is a mean son-of-a-gun on the mound.  He’s a fierce competitor and that’s what you want to see out of your pitchers.  He’s a guy who wants the baseball in his hand.
“Last year, he pitched behind a couple of very good pitchers (Zach Prendergast, Seton Hall and Ryan Kelly, St. Joe’s) and took on any role we asked him to take on, and he did a great job for us.  This year, we are looking for him to take on a bigger role and so are his teammates who have selected him as a captain.  I look forward to seeing what he can do as the guy at the top of our rotation. I know he’ll rise to that challenge.
“David had a conversation with me at the end of last year when he indicated to me that he knew I didn’t like losing and he didn’t like it either.  He told me he knew he could help lead our team to where we need to be this year and now he has his chance to do that.  I’m looking forward to seeing him step up in a leadership role this year to get the most out of our team.
“I’m proud of David for working hard to put himself in a position to have the opportunity to play college baseball.  His academic success, his character, and his baseball abilities give him a chance to be very successful.”
