Amanda Brush – Merrimack College (Softball)
Major:
Sports Medicine (Focusing on Strength and Conditioning)
Final list of colleges:  Merrimack, Maine, Penn State, Mercy College, East Stroudsburg, Delaware, Sacred Heart, Adelphia, SUNY Cortland, Ithaca
Reasons for choosing Merrimack:  “I chose Merrimack College because it is an outstanding academic institution with an excellent Sports Medicine program and up and coming softball team. I am very interested in exercise science, strength and conditioning and nutrition. This was a perfect fit for me.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate softball?  “Since I was young, I always knew I wanted to play softball in college because I have such a great passion for it.”
Favorite memory playing softball:  “My favorite memory was scoring the winning run to get into the National Championship game and then winning the ASA ‘A’ 18U Eastern Nationals.”
Coach Steph Rummel says: “Amanda is our centerfielder, and she’s a great leader with her actions. She works hard on and off the field and makes sure the other girls work hard too. She’s a great leader. She makes every girl come to practice, work hard and stay focused. She always wants to win and play her hardest.
“Amanda is a great fielder – she’s really fast and covers a lot of ground. She hit in our number three hole, and she’s got power and hits line drives a lot.”

Haley DeLany – University of Maryland, Baltimore County (Softball)
Major:
Psychology with a minor in Biology
Final list of colleges:  UMBC, Monmouth, Marist, Gettysburg, Drexel
Reasons for choosing UMBC:  “I selected UMBC for the growing softball program and the strong education. I was impressed with their internship and study abroad programs. Above all, I felt a strong connection with the incredible coaching staff and the players.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate softball?  “I kind of assumed when I was little that I would go to college and play softball. It was kind of another step in life, but I realized you needed to work for that. My freshman year I really put forth effort, and the summer of my senior year I committed to UMBC.”
Favorite memory competing in softball:  “For me, every time I play softball I feel there is some kind of memory being made. One time in particular, I laid it all out there as a base runner. Running towards second base, I dove towards the bag and flew through the air, maintaining my velocity for what felt like 10 seconds. When I finally landed, I was close to the edge of the outfield. At that moment, I felt like a superhero!”
Coach Steph Rummel says:  “Haley is more of a verbal leader. She’s vocal on and off the field. She lets the girls know exactly what she’s looking for out of them. She’s hard working on the field and in the classroom and does her best there as well as on the field.
“She’s definitely a power hitter, and defensively, she blocks everything at first base. She picks up everything, so she’s a solid infielder as well.”
About Haley:
Favorite food:
Anything Mediterranean
Favorite movie:  Stepbrothers
Favorite music:  Alternative
