CB East's Kotulka Competing in Cheer at Villanova

On Tuesday, June 7, 2022, Central Bucks East senior Mia Kotulka was recognized for committing to continue her cheer career at Villanova University.

Mia Kotulka – Villanova University (Cheer)

Major: Environmental Science

Final list of colleges:  Villanova, Penn State, University of Pittsburgh

Reasons for choosing Villanova: “I felt Villanova was the right choice because they had a really good balance of academics and athletics, which is why I decided to join their cheerleading program.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in cheer at the collegiate level?  “I didn’t think my freshman year that I wanted to do it in college, but after being on the team freshman year and continuing with it throughout all four years of high school, I really found a passion for the sports, and after a lot of encouragement from my coaches and my parents, I decided to try out for the team.”

Coach Marla Mathis says: “Mia Kotulka is a four-year varsity cheerleader on the high school cheerleading team. Mia participated in the competition routine for PIAA competitive spirit for all four years in her cheerleading career. She is a strong and coachable athlete who works hard and is dedicated to her sport, herself, her teammates and her coaches. She is a reliable athlete and was also a part of the captain group her senior year, leading her team to a successful season. In her senior year, the team competed at PIAA states and went on to advance straight to finals in that competition in the championship. She was also part of a team her senior year that competed at UCA Nationals in Orlando, Fla. The team advanced to the semifinal round for our traditional routine and also advanced all the way to finals, earning eighth in the nation for our gameday division routine. All around, she’s a great athlete, she earned all-league certificates, and she’s just a strong kid – really respectful and really makes it easy to coach her.”
