On Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019, Central Bucks West senior Nick Hano was recognized for signing a letter of intent to continue his golf career at Rider University.

Nick Hano – Rider University (Golf)

Major:  Business Administration

Final list of colleges:  Rider, Monmouth, Eckerd, Lehigh, LaSalle

Reasons for choosing Rider:  “Rider is local – my family is very important to me, and that’s one of the reasons. They have a winning golf program, and I’m all about winning. I know how hard it is to win, and recently especially, they’ve been very successful.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in golf at the collegiate level?  “I really wasn’t a D-I player until the summer going into my senior year. I had a back injury last year, and I didn’t know when my next competitive round would be, when my next tournament would be. I didn’t know when I was going to be able to compete again. When I found out I was able to play last spring, I just wanted to win as many tournaments as I could. That was all that was important to me, and that’s how I got here.”

Coach Bob Schilling says:  “Nick has been a very accomplished player for us over the last three years, but his season was cut short last year after three matches when he had a stress fracture in his back and was in a brace six or eight months. He went to a lot of rehab over the winter months, working on his strength and getting back into playing condition. We were a little bit unsure at the beginning of the season how Nick would come off this period of time and being away from playing for a very long period of time. He came out doing quite well. He recovered spectacularly, and he put a lot of time into his conditioning and strength training to get a little bit stronger. He was confident he could have a large impact on our golf team, and he obviously did. It was one of the best teams we’ve ever had, and he was an integral part of the team.

“He went through a growth spurt – he was 5-6 and all of a sudden he was 6-2, so that may have had some effect on what his condition was. It was a tragedy to lose him in his junior year, but he came back his senior year and obviously was one of the top players in our league as well as in the league. He probably was in the top five in the league rankings for the entire year, which was commendable coming off the injury he had.

“He’s a very determined young man, he works hard at his game. He plays at the same golf course I play at, and I see him there often on the practice range. He’s very focused and driven to be as good a player as he possibly can. I think he’ll be a very successful college player.”
