On Saturday June 6, 2015, beginning at 12:30 pm, the Council Rock lacrosse community will be hosting the inaugural Cullen Keffer Lacrosse Festival. Cullen was a freshman member of the Council Rock South lacrosse team in 2013-14.  Sadly, Cullen perished in an automobile accident August 30, 2014. A scholarship has been established at his high school in his honor for senior men’s lacrosse players who plan to attend college. The festival on June 6 will raise funds for the scholarship, which will be awarded for the first time in the spring of 2015.

According to Cullen’s father, Joe Keffer, “The recipient of the scholarship shall be a player of remarkable character, both on and off the field, as Cullen was, and we believe that the festival will be an excellent way to honor that character.”

The day will begin with youth clinics at 1:30. All skill levels are welcome and accommodations for absolute beginners will be made. Following the youth clinics, players from the Council Rock lacrosse community will put on three exhibition games. The Rising Stars game will be first and will begin at 4:00. That game will be followed by the Senior Stars game. The premier game of the day will feature alumni from Council Rock North and Council Rock South facing off under the lights, with the winning team receiving the Cullen Cup to be placed in their school’s trophy case for the year.

Concession stands, t-shirt sales, celebrities, live music and a trophy presentation will all be part of the fun. Donations will be appreciated.

Cullen was a young man who made friends wherever he went.  He played on many lacrosse teams in just a few short years, and found camaraderie and friendship on every team. He played with the young men of Council Rock South and Council Rock North more than any others, and it’s those players and coaches with whom he so ardently connected. This tournament shall celebrate those bonds in the spirit of good sportsmanship and skill, qualities with which Cullen shined.

“Cullen was a player who strived for excellence and made all his teammates better.  He was the most coachable player I ever coached and it was a joy to see him develop into a blue chip player in Bucks County.  It will be an honor for me to coach in this game to remember the joys Cullen gave me each day,” said Cullen’s former coach, Rob Gartner.

Free Youth Boys Lacrosse Clinic for all Ages   1:30 – 3:30

Featuring a variety of skills development, fun demos and challenges, the clinic is open to all skill levels, including beginners. Bring equipment if you have it.  Some will be provided.

Rising Stars Game                          4:00

This exhibition game will feature the future stars of the Council Rock North and South High School lacrosse programs squaring off in a game offering fans a glimpse of what the future holds in the rivalry between the two neighboring lacrosse teams.

Senior Stars Game                         5:30

Players who have been facing each other on the field twice a season in the hallmark games between the two rival programs get one last chance in this exhibition game to determine bragging rights before their high school careers come to a close. The game will feature current seniors and soon-to-be seniors.

Evening Stars Alumni Game              7:30

The premier game of the day pits the finest players who have ever played for Council Rock Lacrosse on their respective sides of the Neshaminy Creek…North versus South. The game will be played under the lights with the winner taking the Cullen Cup back to their school’s trophy case until challengers make a bid to claim it in future contests.
