On Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, Upper Dublin senior Andrew Derr signed a letter of intent to play football at West Chester University.

Reasons for choosing West Chester: “Out of all the schools, these were the schools that wanted me to play quarterback. West Chester not only was very straight up with me saying – come here, compete for a job, and possibly redshirt, but I also liked the environment. That was one of the bases for my decision. I liked the coaches, and I liked the town of West Chester.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate football? “Since my freshman year, I knew I wanted to play some sort of college football. It picked up my sophomore year when I started, and it really picked up my junior year.
“The recruiting process was definitely tough because not everybody was real with what they said, so there are a lot of fakes. There’s also a lot of waiting. When it came down to it, I would rather not wait any longer and just go with a great program in West Chester because they showed me respect, and that’s what I was looking for.”
Coach Bret Stover says: “Andrew worked harder than any kid we have ever had in the program. Being a student of the game and playing quarterback and safety, he studied film, and he did his stuff in the offseason in the weight room. He went to quarterback camps, he went to day camps at universities, and all of that played an important factor in him being successful.
“It’s tough to see him go, but West Chester is a good fit for him. He has been the rock for the last three years. We’ve built the program around him, and he delivered time and time again – all three years, not just one year. He grew up in the program and brought a lot of guys with him. He’s going to be a tough piece to replace, but fortunately, his younger brother is waiting in line.”
