Mike Fitzpatrick – Millersville University (Football)

Major:  Government and Politics

Final list of colleges:  Millersville, West Chester, Kutztown, Lycoming, McDaniel

Reasons for choosing Millersville:  “When it really came down to it, I needed to find a place to get my education. Football is only four years. I need to go somewhere that can get me to where I want to go. I saw Millersville as that place. I originally got denied by Millersville, and I feel that because I got denied and then accepted, it made me feel as though this school was really selective. This is going to be a great academic school. Not just anybody can get in. It’s for those who are ready to work, and that’s what I want to do both on the field and off the field.”

What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate football?  “I have been playing football for as long as I can remember. Every fall, I was in pads, and I’m not ready to say, ‘I’m done putting on the pads.’ I just want to continue, and I decided I wanted to play college football and get as much out of it as I can.”

Coach Tim Sorber says:  “Mike was a three-year starter for us. He basically played every position for us on the offensive line. In his sophomore year, he played offensive tackle, and his junior year he played center. In 2012, we moved him around to wherever we thought the best defensive lineman was because we wanted to match best versus best. He’s an extremely versatile player on the offensive line. He did the snapping for extra points all three years. He’s a good athlete and a really great kid. Off the field, he was heavily involved in a lot of student activities. He represented himself, his family and our program extremely well.”

Offensive line coach Kris Brown says:  “Mike was always a hard worker. He really became a leader throughout his junior year and into his senior season. He played both sides of the ball when we needed him to and never complained. He really served as a vocal leader for his teammates. He wasn’t a captain of our team, but he definitely was one of the guys we counted on to not only be a leader of the offensive line but for our offense as a whole. We had a relatively inexperienced offense this year, and he was one of our returning guys, so we counted on him a lot.
“He’s a big guy, and he had good feet. He pulled well. His biggest strength was he could play center, guard or tackle. Every week we had him practice at every different position. We weren’t the deepest team, and if we ever had an injury, Mike was able to plug in anywhere.”
