Girls Tennis: NP's Velaga Wins State 3A Singles Title & 2021 Highlights

Esha Velaga had herself a fall to remember

 

The North Penn junior rolled to a District One 3A singles title and then did the same in the PIAA 3A State Singles Tennis Championship.

 

In the district tournament, Velaga, the top seed entering the tournament, earned wins over CB South freshman Grace Piro (7-5, 6-3), Owen J Roberts sophomore Allison Root (6-2, 6-3) and fourth-seeded West Chester Henderson freshman Kylie Kochis (6-1, 6-4) in the district semifinal. In the district title match, Velaga notched a straight set win (6-2, 6-2). over second-seeded Unionville sophomore Grace Li.

In the state tournament, Velaga once again did not lose a set. In the opening round, she defeated Abington Heights senior Bella Peters (6-2, 6-3) and then earned a straight set win over Council Rock South sophomore Dasha Chichkina (6-2, 6-1). In the state championship gold medal match, Velaga once again defeated Unionville’s Grace Li (6-3, 6-3). Li was the tournament’s second seed. Chinchkina, who fell to Bethel Park's Mia Gorman in the third place match, finished fourth.

 

Pennsbury Girls Tennis won the SOL Patriot Division team title, placed 3rd at District One 3A division, and placed in the Final Four at the PIAA State Team Championships. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pennsbury's Megan Walsh and Kyra Workman won the SOL Patriot Division Doubles title and placed 3rd at the PIAA State Doubles Championships.
