Major: Marketing
Final list of colleges: Robert Morris, Roanoke, Elizabethtown
Reasons for choosing Robert Morris: “Definitely the school itself. Robert Morris has a really good business school, great accreditation. I like the location, and I love the coaches and the players. They’re real nice and made me feel at home. I really liked the size of the school as well.
“(The recruiting) was a little stressful at times, but overall, it’s definitely an exciting time.”
When did the idea of playing lacrosse at the collegiate level become a reality? “Probably around my sophomore year. I had been training with John Christmas, a lacrosse professional player, and he told me I had to put in a lot of work, and so did my head coach Brady McCormick. They both said it was definitely there, and I just had to work for it. In my junior year, I made Duke’s Lacrosse Club team, which is a really great lacrosse club. That’s when I realized it could come true because E.B. Helm and Jason Christmas, my coaches for Duke’s Lacrosse, helped everything go through with Robert Morris.
“It’s really exciting. I can’t wait for it. I know it’s going to be tough, but I think I’m up for the challenge.”
Coach Brady McCormick says: “From the very beginning, Nathan has always had that drive to be better, and it’s not just for statistics. He just loved the game so much, and he always wanted to get better. It’s quantum leaps each year, and the most impressive thing to me – he was named captain last year, and he started a little bit quietly, but he’s turned into a very good team leader. His abilities on the field are something the boys look at, but his leadership qualities have made our team a lot stronger.
“I remember in between his freshman and sophomores years, his mother came up to me and asked, ‘What does Nathan need to do to get better?’ because Nathan was a little bit undersized. I said, ‘He needs to work on strength, and he needs to work on speed because the natural ability is there.’ He’s absolutely dedicated himself to every single day getting himself better strength-wise and speed-wise which complimented his natural ability.
“He’s an attack wing, and he basically does everything. He will never let up, he’s always hustling, always making plays, and he has a natural ability to play.”
