Hatters Take the Plunge for Worthy Cause

Hatboro-Horsham’s boys’ lacrosse team raised close to $2,000 for Special Olympics by participating in the 2013 Eastern Polar Bear Plunge.

Braving the frigid temperatures, 20 members of Hatboro-Horsham’s boys lacrosse squad as well as coach John Kurek and assistant coach Josh Wilkocz took the plunge and participated in the 2013 Eastern Polar Bear Plunge at Neshaminy Park Creek on Feb. 23. To add to the fun, the team dressed up in wild outfits.

“It was a great experience for our team,” captain Jimmy Murphy said. “We had a lot of fun, and it felt good to do something for others.”

The team, under the direction of Murphy, raised close to $2,000 for Special Olympics. The event was just a part of Murphy’s senior project. He will also be volunteering his time to work with those with special needs and the athletes of Special Olympics.
