Jordan Matthews – Kansas State University (Track & Field)
Major:
Undecided
Final list of colleges:  Kansas State, Maryland, Miami
Reasons for choosing Kansas State:  “The overall environment. The coach there – I had worked with him previously at an international meet, and I knew he was an altogether good coach. You can just tell how a person is going to be, and I had no doubts. The area was like Abington – it was small and nice and a little suburban area.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in track at the collegiate level?  “I started running track at six. As I was growing up, it was always my big goal to go to the Olympics. As I got older, I’m thinking I have to go to college first. Running in college is another step in getting me where I need to be. If I have big dreams, I have to start somewhere.”
Abington sprint coach Karl Gaines says: “What makes Jordan special is her desire. She has great desire to win, and she knows the sport. Some kids are talented, but they just operate off that talent. Not only is Jordan talented, but Jordan knows the sport. When she came up running club track, she has great family support, which is real important. More than that, she understands the sport, and because she understands the sport, she knows how to train. She has a great work ethic, and she’s just an exceptional athlete. She’s really a coach’s dream.”
