Devan Masciulli – Millersville University (Softball)

Major:  Meteorology

Final list of colleges:  Millersville, West Chester, Rider

Reasons for choosing Millersville:  “Since meteorology is such a rare major, that’s certainly why I chose Millersville. When I visited, I fell in love with the campus and the area surrounding it. I like the average size rather than super small or super big.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “When I had to switch my travel teams and I saw the high competitive level and when I first came to this school and saw the level, I knew I was really competitive and into the sport and that I wanted to win and keep playing. That’s when I decided to continue playing in college.”

Coach Dave Chichilitti says:  “Devan is a highly competitive, highly motivated athlete. She holds herself to such a high standard. Her strengths as a player – she’s incredibly smart, she’s also very aggressive, and she’s actually very strong. We asked her going into the season to do everything a little bit better – she did. She had the second best batting average on the team. She played a great left field. She’s very quick, and she’s able to steal a base whenever you need to. She’s one of those five-tool players that you don’t come across very often that can do it all.
“Only having three seniors, she was kind of forced to give leadership. With her intelligence and her well-roundedness, she was able to fit into that role. She’s an awesome kid. She’s very intelligent. You name it, she does it. She’s involved in drama, she’s involved in sports, she’s very active academically and is involved in all kinds of honor societies. She was a pleasure to coach, and she happened to be a fantastic player. She’s just one of those kids – she’s a once-in-every-10-year type of kid because she had the personality, the intelligence and all the skills. I wish I had nine of her. They don’t come along very often.”
