Penn Relays Recap (4-25-15)

The SOL once again excelled on the final day of the Penn Relays on Saturday. Check back Wednesday night for a notebook featuring several of the top performers.

Cheltenham senior John Lewis finished third 400m hurdles, highlighting the SOL’s strong showing on the final day of the Penn Relays Saturday. He was the second American finisher with a US#2 time of 52.46. Neshaminy’s David Marrington finished in fourth place with a US#3 time of 52.96.

Lewis (47.15) also anchored Cheltenham’s 4x400 relay team of Cordell Richardson (50.11), Christian Brissett (48.89) and Kyle Davis (49.73) to a spot in the Championship of American final, winning the Suburban American 4x4 with a time of 3:15.86. They defeated Jamaican powerhouse St. Jago to earn this opportunity. In the Championship of America race, the Panthers finished fifth for the second time in five years with a time of 3:15.39 with splits of 50.3, 48.3, 49.74, and 47.00.

In the girls’ 4x400m Philadelphia Area race, Neumann Goretti edged Cheltenham, winning the race 3:47.39 to 3:47.67. The Lady Panthers’ team was comprised of Nicole Burke (55.66), Chanel Brissett (57.77), Ariana Wallace (58.95) and Alexis Crosby (55.30).

Finishing seventh with a time of 3:56.46 was Central Bucks West’s team of Olivia Berry (1:00.89), Aly Logue (59.27), Lauren Olsen (1:00.44) and Maddie Villalba (55.88). In eighth place with a time of 3:56.63 was Central Bucks South’s team of Amber Stratz (59.57), Lydia Fielding (59.14), Brianna Stratz (58.39) and Jasmine Noble (59.53). Wissahickon was ninth with a time of 3:59.42 with a team of Anna Chiodo Ortiz (58.96), Kirsten Haney (1:01.32), Fiona Kelly (1:01.00), and Lotte Black (58.15). Norristown was 10th with a time of 4:02.84 with a team of Jayana Webb (1:00.58), Charity Guy (58.60), Kanitra Hill-Stewart (1:00.21) and Dymon Lee (1:03.47).

In the boys’ 4x800m relay Championship of America, Pennsbury finished fourth and as the second American team with a state leading and US#5 time of 7:45.42 with the team of Eric Kersten (1:58.81), Alek Sauer (1:51.98), Sam Webb (1:54.12) and Zach Yeger (2:00.52).

Central Bucks West finished seventh with a time of 7:49.94 with the team of Andrew Baker (1:57.90), Jake Claricurzio (1:56.64), Carter Zerweck (2:00.47) and Rock Fortna (1:54.93). Central Bucks East was 12th with a time of 8:04.2 with the team of Ata Shahideh (2:03.58), Oliver Boucher (1:55.44), Louis Kettelberger (2:04.81) and Jake Brophy (2:00.43).

In the field events, Springfield senior Chris Stone finished in a tie for sixth in the high jump with a season best 6-7.75.

In the 4x100 relay, the Cheltenham girls’ team of Ciara Leonard, Janiel Slowly, Alexis Crosby and Chanel Brissett improved their state lead with a time of 46.60 to Pennsbury’s 46.96 to set a new Penn Relays Tri-State championship meet record. The second place Falcons’ team included Husniyyah Rogers, Uche Onouha, Niasia Boone and Dasia Pressley. Norristown’s team of Jonae Cook, Jayana Webb, Dymon Lee and Kanitra Stewart finished fourth with a time of 47.19, and Pennridge’s team of Ariana Przybylowski, Jessica Milligan Zoe Williams and Taylor Chapman was fifth with a time of 48.58.

In the boys’ 4x100m relay large school race, Cheltenham’s team of Cordell Richardson, Saahir Bethea, Oliver Liburd and Christian Brissett finished second in 41.44, the top time in the state this season.

In the boys’ 4x400m Philadelphia Area race, Abington finished fourth with a time of 3:21.6 with a team of Isaiah Smith (49.93), Jordan Neely (50.00), Cameron Mitchell (51.83) and Keion Broadhus (49.93). Wissahickon was fifth with a time of 3:22.09 with the team of Darien Williams (51.41), Ethan Dolberry-Wescott (51.24), Kyuande Johnson (49.46) and Cam Christopher (49.99). Neshaminy was eighth with a time of 3:27.02 with its team of Dave Marrington (51.48), Ben Matzke (50.84), Anthony Murray (52.36) and Kyle O’Connell (52.35).
