Riemenschneider Chooses St. Bonaventure

On Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, Hatboro-Horsham senior Rachel Riemenschneider was recognized at a special news conference for signing a letter of intent to swim at St. Bonaventure.

Rachel Riemenschneider – St. Bonaventure University (Swimming)

Major:  Biology

Final list of colleges: St. Bonaventure, Gettysburg, Iona, McDaniel

Reasons for choosing St. Bonaventure: “St. Bonaventure was one of the first schools I visited, and I basically knew from that moment that’s where I wanted to go. I just felt like I fit in with the people there, and it’s a smaller school. I felt like I could relate to the coach, I really like the team, and I enjoyed my time there.”

What was the progression that led you to swimming at the collegiate level? “I always knew I was going to swim in college because it was something if I wasn’t doing it I would feel like a big part of my life was missing because so much of what I do revolves around swimming.”

Coach Kip Emig says:  “She’s dedicated and puts her time into the sport. She’s really grown and learned to listen to coaching and to understand you’re not going to swim your fastest time every time you’re in a swim meet. She also learned that the work you put in you’re really going to get out of it. She’s developed that work ethic.
“Rachel started off as a butterflier and IM’er, and last year we made the switch to the 500 freestyle because she does train so much, and she does get the yardage a lot of kids don’t do. Last year she really succeeded, and this year she’s taken on, ‘I want to be a distance swimmer.’”

Favorite movie:  Remember the Titans
