Rink 'Rap: SOL Flyers Cup Preview

The Flyers Cup Tournament marks the end of a long and demanding scholastic ice hockey season – and area teams are excited to compete for a state championship.

There will be 10 Suburban High School Hockey League teams that will compete for the Class ‘A’ title.  The ‘play in’ round is Monday (3/3/14); the ‘first round’ is Wednesday (3/5/14); and the ‘quarterfinals’ are Friday (3/7/14).  Warwick Ice Arena will host the semifinals on March 13, 2014, and the finals on March 18, 2014.

The ten teams from the SHSHL include # 1 Central Bucks East, # 2 Central Bucks South, # 3 North Penn, # 4 Souderton, # 8 Council Rock South, # 12 Central Bucks West,  # 13 Neshaminy, # 15 Council Rock North, # 17 Pennsbury, and # 19 Truman.

There will be five teams from the SHSHL that will compete for the Class ‘A’ championship.  The ‘play in’ round is Sunday (3/2/14); the ‘first round’ is Monday (3/3/14); and the ‘quarterfinals’ are Wednesday (3/5/14).  Ice Line will host the semifinals on March 7, 2014, and the finals on March 12, 2014.

The five teams from the SHSHL include # 7 Upper Moreland, # 9 Wissahickon, # 11 William Tennent, # 12 Archbishop Wood, and # 14 Lansdale Catholic.

Flyers Cup ‘AA’ Play In Games
Monday – March 3, 2014

# 16 Perkiomen Valley Vikings vs. # 17 Pennsbury Falcons @ Ice Line – 7 pm
Season Resume:  Perkiomen Valleyfinished in 10th place in the ICSHL Ches-Mont with a 9-8-0 record.  The Vikings finished 11-8-0 overall.  Pennsbury finished in 4th place in the SHSHL National Conference with a 5-9-3 record.  The Falcons finished 6-12-3 overall.

Top Scoring Trio:  The top three scorers for Perkiomen Valley are Kevin Lombardi (21 goals, 16 assists, 37 points), Andrew Tarbete (12-21-33), and Tim Freed (11-19-30).  The top three scorers for Pennsbury are Kevin Koerner (10-12-22), Kenyon Linder (11-7-18), and John Thornton (7-9-16).

# 13 Neshaminy Redskins vs. # 20 Wilson Bulldogs @ Warwick – 7 pm
Season Resume:  Neshaminy
finished in 2nd place in the SHSHL National Conference with a 6-8-3 record.  The Redskins finished 7-9-4 overall.  Wilson finished in 4th place in the CPIHL Tier -1 Division with a 9-8-1 record.
Top Scoring Trio:  The top three scorers for Neshaminy are Eric Graham (21 goals, 11 assists, 32 points), Nick Foster (11-10-21), and Ian Dixon (11-6-17).  The top three scorers for Wilson are Bryce Witman (24-10-34), Nicholas Tasca (11-12-23), and Michael Simmerman (21-11,23).

Season Resume:  Lansdale Catholic finished 5th in the SHSHL American Conference with a record of 2-5-0.  The Crusaders finished 8-12-0 overall.  Penncrest finished in 8th in the ICSHL Central League with a record of 5-10-1.  The Lions finished 5-11-2 overall.
