With one PIAA championship already in hand, Council Rock North went out to try to wrap up another, this time the team title at the Heritage Hills Golf Resort and Conference Center in York.

Even though the Indians had girls champ Erica Herr in their lineup, along with two other medal winners, they couldn't get past Manheim Township. The Blue Streak nipped North 299-301.

“It was that close all day long,” Council Rock North coach Rich White said. “Credit Manheim Township. They're all good.”

Of course, that is not to say that the Indians are slouches. Their 301 score is an average of 75.25 strokes per the four players whose scores count.

Zach Herr led North with an even-par 71 followed by Madelein Herr at 75, Erica Herr at 76 and Jim Twomey at 79.

“This is the best four scores we've had,” said White. “That was Madelein's best round here (at the state tournament). Everybody played good.”

Manheim Township had its own champion going, boys AAA winner Craig Hornberger, who turned in the round of the day with a 2-under 69.Andy Butler shot 74 and Ryan Dornes and John Kitsock both shot 78s.

“These kids are successful” White said, speaking of his players. “This is the states. I think second in the state in successful. Getting the team to the states is successful.
