Sarah Kiely Signs With American

Council Rock North senior Sarah Kiely signed a letter of intent on Wednesday, Nov. 11, to accept a basketball scholarship to American University.

Sarah Kiely – American University (Basketball)
Major: “I will go in undeclared, but I’m hoping to major in elementary education or biology with a minor in secondary education.”
Final list of colleges: Colgate, Rider, Bucknell, Monmouth, Sacred Heart, Loyola College in Maryland, Princeton, Vanderbilt
Reasons for choosing American: “American University has a great basketball program, and I knew I could thrive academically and athletically. American will push me in both areas, and I wanted to attend an institution that would push me to my potential and beyond.”
When did the idea of playing collegiate basketball become a reality? “When I received my first Division One college letter (from Colgate) in the mail, I knew that I could play at that level. After I got the letter from Colgate, I worked to improve all aspects of my game, and I was lucky to get noticed by American. It sounds corny, but it is a dream come true.”
Council Rock North Coach Lou Palkovics says: “Sarah is very athletic with great jumping ability. She is versatile and can take bigger girls away from the basket because she is able to shoot the ball from 15-17 feet away from the basket. She is a tenacious rebounder and defender. She is a great kid who loves to put in the extra time to get better.”
