Scholl & White to Play Collegiate Football

On Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, Souderton seniors Tyler Scholl and Javon White were recognized at a special news conference for signing letters of intent to play football at the collegiate level.

“Collectively, they were a great pair of backs to coach the past three years,” coach Ed Gallagher said. “They both have different special skills, but both of them are very talented running backs. When they were healthy and both playing, we were a very good football team.”

Tyler Scholl
Major:
 Secondary Education/History
Final list of schools: Millersville, King’s, Lycoming
Reasons for choosing Millersville:  “I chose Millersville because when I went to visit, I loved the coaches, and it was a great atmosphere. It’s also a good education school, which will be my major, so it worked out perfectly.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate football?  “I’ve been thinking about it my whole life. I have always wanted to play in college. It was always a goal for me.
“Once I got into high school and started to play, you start to realize that in a couple of years you’ll be moving on to something bigger and better, and that’s when you really start thinking about it. Everything really started to come into play after the football season this year.”
Coach Ed Gallagher says:  “Tyler ended up at Millersville, and I think that’s a great fit for him. They’re still not sure if they will play him on offense or defense. He does a lot of different things. He’s a very good receiver and runner, so they might be able to use him as a slot back/slot receiver, part-time running back or they could use him as a safety or possibly bulk him up to play outside linebacker on defense. He’s just a really good athlete and definitely a good football player. He’s going to really help Millersville as they move forward.”

Javon White
Major:
Psychology
Final list of schools: Villanova, Towson, Maryland
Reasons for choosing Villanova:  “I visited many universities last summer, such as Maryland and Penn State. I went to Villanova, and the minute I stepped onto the campus, I knew it was the right college for me. They have a great coaching staff, great academics, it’s close to home, and I honestly cannot wait until next year.”
What was the progression that led you to playing collegiate football?  “I first started playing Bux-Mont (football) when I was little, and as soon as I started playing football in ninth grade, I knew I wanted to pursue a football career in college.
“There was one point in the summer where I was going to football camps and universities almost every weekend, but as soon as I visited Villanova, I knew it was where I wanted to go.”
Coach Ed Gallagher says:  “Javon has a great opportunity going to Villanova to play running back. He’s a very good running back. He runs hard, he has great speed, and he’s going to get a great opportunity at an excellent academic institution. His parents will be able to see him play because it’s so close to home. It’s a great academic institution where he can be successful in football, so he has the best of both worlds there.”
