SHSHL Flyers Cup Play-In Wrap (3-2-15)

Abington was the lone SHSHL team to advance out of Monday’s Class AA and Class A play-in round.

#14 ABINGTON 8, #19 HEMPFIELD 2
The Ghosts were the lone SHSHL team to survive Monday’s play-in games. They jumped out to an early lead and never looked back on their way to the big win at Bucks County Ice. Alex Decristofano had a big night for the Ghosts, finishing with a game-high five points on three goals and two assists. Ryan Woelbl added two goals and two assists for four points.
Elliott Leporati (Decristofano assist) put the Ghosts on the scoreboard 4:21 into the game, but Hempfield’s Evan Matthews scored an unassisted goal to knot the score. Back-to-back goals by Decristofano – the first with assists from Woelbl and Leporati and the second a power play goal with a Leporati assist – sent the Ghosts into the second period with a 3-1 lead.
Bryan Scipione (Woelbl assist) scored the only goal in the second period to put the Ghosts on top 4-1. They extended their lead to 5-1 after a goal by Chris Shannon (Decristofano/Justin Adamski assists) early in the third period before Hempfield’s Benjamin Basler scored a power play goal to make it a three-goal game.
The Ghosts closed it out with three straight goals, the first an unassisted goal by DeCristofano. Woelbl scored pair in the closing the minute for the 8-2 final. Aidan Smith and Justin Adamski assisted on the first. Woelbl’s second was unassisted.
Hempfield managed just 10 shots while the Ghosts had 25. Kyle Burke was forced to make just eight saves in goal in a winning effort.
Abington will face third-seeded North Penn on Wednesday at Hatfield Ice at 8:20 p.m.
